Description

Nothing brings realism to recorded sound like deep, authoritative bass. Yet, most affordable systems are compromised in this critical region. For the sub1010, the rich, powerful bottom octaves are fundamental—literally—to the life of music and movie soundtracks when it comes to reproducing the full spectrum of instruments and sound effects.

  • Good value and performance.
Size: 10" 120 Watt
I did moderately extensive research before I purchase the subwoofer. I watched a number of videos on YouTube reviewing other products in The same category as the Elac1010 Subwoofer. It appears that Polk 10 inch powered subwoofer gets a lot of positive promotion on each YouTube reviews. However there was one more data driven review of the ELAC 1010 As well as several of the comparable products including a Sony, the Polk, a Yamaha, and a few others. The review assessed several performance characteristics employing objective audio electronic performance analysis obtained. Both the Polk and Elac came out on top. Now such objective analysis doesn’t necessarily guarantee a satisfying listening experience but at least it offers relatively objective and unbiased basis for comparison. I chose the Elac basically for its compact size and the good reputation of the manufacturer. I coupled the Elac 1010 subwoofer with my turntable (U-turn Orbit and Ortofon M2 Blue cartridge with a Schitt Mani phono preamp) with my Edifier S1000db via a Rockville REQ231 graphic equalizer because the Edifiers have no subwoofer output. It’s also nice to have the equalizer to compensate for room characteristics and the deficiencies of some recordings. I fiddled with the adjustable frequency roll off on the back of the sub and the volume control. The 180 degree phase switch helped too. I got a very satisfactory bass response that balanced nicely with the Edifiers and complimented the entire sound. The Elac1010 doesn’t produce window rattling bass but nor did I want that, but it produces naturally sounding low frequencies that can be heard and felt . In my estimation it performs perfectly in my relatively small bedroom and in a very musical way. I haven’t figured out yet how to couple my TV which has an optical output, into the mix but I’m sure there’s a way. The subwoofer’s compact size is also perfect for my room. I highly recommend the Elac 1010 10 inch active subwoofer to anyone looking for a subwoofer for use as I described. , ... show more

  • Great subwoofer for music!
Size: 10" 120 Watt
I bought this after agonizing and reading SO MANY reviews and opinions. This review is what I would have wanted to know. Key points: 1. If maximizing home theater explosions is the goal, this probably isn't the best option. 2. Don't let the audiophiles get you down. This thing is great! I have a pair of Klipsch RP-160Ms that do a nice job in our good sized loft style living room. I was wondering if I needed a subwoofer, since they do a pretty good job with the low end. Ultimately I decided that I was missing out on some depth. I wanted something that would fill in the bottom but not dominate the whole sound; I am not trying to shake things off the shelves. This thing does such a nice job! I have the crossover set to maybe about 60 or 65 and the gain at about 55%. It blends better at 50% but I like it to be a touch more prominent. I didn't crawl on the floor to find the ideal place to put it for my "listening spot", I put it where it fit/looked best. Some audiophiles will tell you that you need to spend 5 times this or don't bother. I'm sure that for way more money I could get something "better" but I'm not convinced it would make enough of a difference that I would notice or care. This makes my music (classical, jazz, rock, indy, folk, hip hop, and everything else) sound richer but not muddy. I'm super happy with it! It's also very small , so not so unsightly. FYI, cranked all the way up it'll rattle the china cabinet if that's what you want. it'll never hollow your stomach out but it isn't designed to. ... show more

  • Nice sounding bass
Size: 10" 120 Watt
I was able to get this subwoofer at a discount price and it sounds very good, but the current regular price I think would be over priced, but many things are right now. But it does sound great, if I had paid the regular price for it, I think I would be disappointed, maybe they will come back down for Black Friday. The old price of about $130 I think would be fair, but the $200 range is very close to some other speakers in the under $300 range that may sound better, but it's up to the buyer and their ears or with subwoofers maybe their chest. Very nice sounding subwoofer. Excellent choice for under $200. ... show more

  • A really good value, but more of a midrange/woofer.
Size: 10" 120 Watt
I got this as a sub for my garage, which actually has Elac Debut speakers as the mains. I had not intended to buy Elac, I was just looking for something disposable for the garage. The speaker isn't overly boomy in the 70 to 140 hz range, and that's unusual for a cheap speaker that calls itself a subwoofer. In reality it is probably best described as an extension of a small pair of bookshelf speakers that supplements low midrange. There is useable sound as low as -say- 60 Hz, but not much. I'd be cautious of buying two for one room because I'd think they might be overpowering in that 80 to 100 hz range, but who knows.. Overall, it's amazing what $129 or so will buy. One other thing. It's not really a subwoofer so it's location is noticeable, much more so than more of a subwoofer that you feel in your chest, so your ear will locate it in the room much more than something that's 20-40 hz. Good luck! ... show more
