  • I Did My Research And This EGO Looked Like The Right Choice - I have not been disappointed!
Ok I have mowed with this mower 6 times now this Spring and I am happy with my purchase. 1. I didn't give it 5 stars as I don't think the batteries last as long as stated but I have two and they easily mow my lawn with one change. Oh and I bought the best EGO charger which make the charging quick and easy. 2. This mower replaces an older Honda gas mower. Its Spring and my grass is growing like crazy. I'm mowing twice a week right now. At this time of year my Honda mowed my lawn and mulched but left some clumps. This mower cuts the lawn with no problem and there are no clumps of grass. I looked up the reason and I find that this mower spins the blade a little more than 1000 rpm faster than the Honda. That said it does a great job of powering even fairly long grass. 3. Changing the battery is no problem. I spend less time in a battery change than I did putting gas in my Honda at the start of each mowing. 4. The speed control is great and gives me good control of my mowing speed. No matter how fast I go the mower doesn't bog down in long grass. I run at a speed my old legs are comfortable with. 5. The Bagger and side discharge are nice but I have not yet used them. 6. I love how the mower folds down. I can stand it up and put it against the wall of my garage leaving me more room for other yard stuff. 7. I am overall very pleased with this purchase. It mows well. Works great in deep grass and makes my lawn look great when I finish. 8. This is my first electric mower and I have to say the EGO is a good example of what an electric mower can be! ... show more

  • Works really well! A must buy!
First time using an electric mower. Mothing but praise for this one. This mower is excellent (I have Bermuda grass). There are spots on the yard that naturally grow thicker and more full due to the perfect amount of sun and shade. This mower does not strain or slow down on those spots. For a cleaner cut I do slow down though. The mulch bag also sits more at a flat angle instead of inclined like all my previous mowers used. It holds twice as much before needing to be emptied, and it does not add weight as it gets full. I cam do the whole house with needing to empty it twice, whereas my last gas mower was 4-5 times. The mulch bag is about the same size, but since it's inclined, it feeds it back into the blade and leaves clumps behind if I don't empty it frequently. It's very easy to store since the handles can easily be adjusted with a lever. Push the handles all the way forward to have them bend over the mower to save an extra 3-4 feet of space when storing. Best part is no gas can, oils, fuel stabilizers, spark plugs, air filter, yearly emptying and replacing the gas and oil needed for these electric mowers! ... show more

  • A good replacement for an old gas mower.
After 14 years, my trust old Honda mower finally retired. Since it is 2022, I decided to get with the times and go green. After some research on Consumers Reports, I opted for this EGO model mower. Since I already own an EGO snow blower, I figured it makes sense to stay with the EGO product line since the batteries are all interchangeable. My yard is about 1/3 of an acre. with a slope of about 6 degrees. Plenty of rain means that I mow at least once per week during peak season and sometimes twice per week in the middle of Spring. I only ever mulch the grass clippings, so I keep the mower in the mulching configuration. Bottom Line On Top - This is a legit lawn mower and certainly a worthy replacement for my old Honda Gas Mower. Pros: 1) Very light. Very maneuverable. Honestly, don't need to use the self-propelled function half as much as my old Honda - which was nearly twice as heavy. 2) I am super allergic to grass and tree pollen. This mower makes less mess (i.e., I don't feel like I am walking behind a blizzard of grass clippings). 3) It is very quiet so no ear protection is necessary. I can even listen to music when I mow the grass now. 4) Cut is sharp and clean. Very comparable to a gas mower if not better. Slices through more dense growth and reduces the clippings to a nice fine discharge. Not much clumping. Seems to produce a very good vacuum for excellent mulching. Very even with no loss of blade speed or torque. This was probably my biggest concern and the EGO certainly didn't let me down. 5) Compact and easy to store. I like the idea that this can fold and store easily. 6) Easy to clean after mowing is complete. Cons: 1) Battery life. As with my EGO snow blower, I am not sure whose yard they measured 60 minutes of mowing time with. Admittedly, my EGO mower is set up with the mulching blade configuration and I use the 7.5 mV batteries that came with my snowblower. The 10 mV battery is unavailable at this time and since I have two 7.5 mV from my snowblower, I figured that I will use them instead. Let me just say that it is a good thing that I have two batteries to use, as this EGO mower drains 1.5 batteries every time I mow. Even if I had a 10 mV battery, I suspect that I'd still have to tap into a second battery to complete my yard which is only about 1/3 an acre 4,200 sqft in size. So battery life is a bit disappointing. 2) Self-propelled feature is a bit slow and quirky. First, this mower is super light, so I engage the self-propelled feature, only when going uphill. Maybe I walk or mow quickly, but this EGO mower seems a bit slow and its max speed is only 3.1 MPH - which is slower than a Honda mower. Secondly, the self-propel function has a bit of a time lag when you press and release the button. Takes a second too long to kick in and then takes a second too long to stop (i.e., when you move in reverse or around an object). Not a deal-breaker, but it is a noticeable design quirk. 3) Not sure who said this is a 21-inch cut. The blade is not 21-inches long, so the front wheels DO NOT indicate where the tangents of the cutting circle are located. Meaning, that I did have to get used to lining up my mowing passes differently. The front wheels can't be used as my guide. Mildly annoying. Overall - this is a solid self-propelled mower that delivers a similar performance to my old Honda mower. The EGO takes a bit of getting used to, but I think the pros outweigh the cons. It is a good value and I would buy it again. ... show more

  • Very good, but needs the right battery
The mower is working very well, and I am happy with the purchase! But make certain you get the correct battery! I purchased the 5 aH, and it lasts 20 minutes for grass that has not been cut for a few weeks, and 30-35 minutes for grass in maintenance mode (I use height setting 4, with minimal self propel used). I thought there may be something wrong with the battery as I was expecting 40-45 minutes based on my research. I called Ego and was told that for this particular mower they recommend the 10 aH or even the 7.5 aH batteries. Also please note, the instruction manual says you cannot hose the underside off to clean it. You have to use a broom and I've found the leaf blower I bought good at cleaning it up. ... show more

  • Broke on third mowing, was told it was my fault
On my third us, the height adjustment failed for the front wheels causing the mower to drop to it's lowest position. After a long attempt to connect to customer service, I was told this would be my responsibility to fix because it was an accident that was my fault. There was no accident this product failed in the normal course of use. Second call to Ego, got the warranty process started. Had to go 49 miles to nearest approved service provider. Determined to be in warranty. I do like the mower, hopefully it holds up from here on out. Still can't get over terrible service experience. ... show more

  • Has some design flaws
This mower definitely has it drawbacks and could have been designed much better. My last several mowers were Toro Personal Pace so that is where I am coming from however, I really wanted to get out of gas engines and into electric. This mower is very tricky to control and will take some time to master. One of the 1st things I found out is that although I have the right voltage batteries (56v) you are supposed to have the 56v – “10Amp”. If you have the “5Amp” like me it will work but not last very long and if you have other issues – like with it starting or engaging the drive, Ego will blame it on that so be warned get the 10amp with it or it costs ~200. OK, to start it you MUST press the Start button first and THEN pull the “Deadman” lever or it will not start (and 5amp batteries may cause it to not start every time – I think have not got the 10amp yet). Next this is a manual drive control. There are two push pads one on each side of the handle. Pressing one or both will make it go. You must disengage Both to stop the drive whenever you get to the end of a row, need to go around something or just want to turn. The problem is the pads cover most of the entire handle so it is easy to hit it inadvertently and it will dig in and go. This is especially bad when you have the speed turned up via a knob in the center, which is very sensitive between go slow and go really fast. You just need to train yourself to pay attention to adjusting speed and turning power on/off which is something I have not had to do with the Toros. The next big drawback is the bag system. It has 2 problems 1. The bag does not fit between the side rails so you must unook/drop it and then reach around the back to pick it up or put it back on. 2. There is no handle or anything to grab on the Bag door so you must reach all the way down to the ground to grab the door and pull it open to put the bag back on. With a bad back it is not very ergonomically friendly. On the bright side, it has a simple easy way to adjust the deck with one lever, it mows very well and it has surprisingly good power although like I said it’s temperamental but then that could be the battery. Overall I like the mower because it is electric and it has power. I just think that for the cost there are several simple design fixes that would make it much better ... show more
