  • Quality Product but heavy and awkward
We really like this snow shovel and purchased the strap. It is heavy and awkward to operate but does a great job. I wish there was a video to show how to adjust for people of different sizes.

  • Concept Not Great, but Ego Shovel Operates Well
If you are definitely buying an electric shovel, this Ego brand is the one to get. However, they're only useful in niche situations and I think most people will be better off with regular shovels or a snowblower. An electric shovel might be for you if: - You are capable of shoveling regularly, including lifting heavy shovels of snow - You routinely get 3" - 12" of snow - You have a lot of driveway / sidewalk to shovel - A snowblower is absolutely not an option - Update: You shovel your gutter to avoid getting an ice sheet in front of your house - this is the perfect tool for that, and good to have in addition to a snowblower since it's narrower. It was more useful for the sidewalk than the driveway, so if you have a very long sidewalk and small driveway, you may find it useful. If you have a bad back or muscle weakness that prevents normal shoveling, you will not be able to use this. Get a small snowblower or hire someone to shovel for you. Pros to the Ego electric shovel: - Far superior to the Dewalt (I tried Dewalt first and immediately returned it) - Simple to use - Scrapes well - Blows a good distance - Battery lasts long enough to do most or all of the job (I did a 3 car mid-length driveway on one battery). If you have other Ego products, it can use the same battery charger and likely the other batteries if you have a longer job. Cons: - Very heavy. Equivalent to a fully loaded shovel of wet snow. - Narrow, and works better with some overlap of passes. - Blows primarily in front, only slightly to the side. Look at your driveway and figure out how that would work for you. - Blows snow onto paths you've already done, necessitating a scraping pass with a shovel afterwards. (In my photo I was working left to right, with the blowing angle to the side. You can see that each pass was blowing snow across the part I'd already done). For the sidewalk in front of my house, I set the angle as far to the side as it would go. I worked from one side of the sidewalk to the other, always blowing the snow towards the not-yet-done side. It took 4 passes to cover the width of the sidewalk, and it was a good result. There were some packed-down footprints already when I started and it did a pretty good job of scraping those without me applying additional pressure. For the driveway you have two options. In both cases, start at the top of the driveway, leaving your front sidewalk for last. Option A - Set the angle to blow the snow down the driveway. Do a row, pick up the shovel and carry it back to the starting point, then do the next row. The shovel is heavy! You don't have to lift it very high and the two handles make a pretty good setup for lifting, but it's a lot more work than carrying a regular shovel back and forth. Option B - Set the angle to blow somewhat towards the end of the driveway and do a row. Turn the shovel around, bend over to reach blow direction dial on the base of the shovel, set the blow angle to the opposite direction, switch which side of the shovel you're standing on, and do the next row. There's more switching things every row, but less carrying. And switching sides balances the muscles being used. I settled on Option B. Once I got it started on each row, I could hold it with just the closest hand and stand upright for the walking part of the row, which helped. That's a sustainable method that would allow me to get through a large area. For 3" or less, I'd definitely just use a regular shovel however. If it were 6" or more I'd try to Ego electric shovel if I had nothing else, as I think it would help for moving a large volume of snow. That being said, I'm off to research snowblowers. I didn't really want to commit space to one in my garage, but the electric shovel just isn't making enough difference in shoveling efficiency to be worth the money. ... show more

  • It works!
I live in a townhouse community. It would be a pain to use a traditional snow blower. Got this instead. Was able to clean the sport as well as in front of my car in no time. I have used it over the past two days and the battery still has a 50% charge. The only issues is the awkward weight of it. But not having to shovel makes my life so much easier. I will deal with the weight because I was able to clear in front of my cars and spots around me in no time! ... show more

  • Over promised and under delivered
Maybe mine is faulty but mine does not throw snow like it is supposed to. It does make pushing the snow easier but that is undermined by the weight. I am someone that works out often and this thing is seriously heavy. It was heavy enough to where I’d have to take breaks pretty often. Needless to say I am definitely returning it and I would NOT recommend this product to anyone. ... show more

  • Nice, but might not be for you.
This does well in 1-4" of powder, but struggled with 4" of "Sierra cement" and 6+ inches of snow clog the intake. I have 6 cars worth of driveway, and this does make quick work of smaller storms, and is especially useful for "throwing" rather than me carrying shovels from the middle off to the edges. I would say this is only a value if you already have the upper portion from your weed whacker, edger, etc., since the upper portion is a large part of the cost. I say this for two reasons. The upper portion is a large part of the cost. Also, the upper portion we got with this one had a newer way of adjusting the mid-bar handle that just doesn't hold up for this end. The single-screw tightening mechanism doesn't stop it from rotating while using this device, no matter how much we tightened it. We were lucky that we had a second upper portion that had the previous, 2 allen wrench connectors on either side that does stay in one place with this handle, and just put the newer handle on the weed whacker's handle. The batteries sometimes don't last or flash yellow (too hot) doing my driveway + sidewalk area. But these charge in a short time. I have 2 batteries, and I can get done while swapping once, and the previous one would be fairly charged even if I didn't. The device is also fairly heavy. It bothers my wrists to do use this a few days in a row. I don't think it would be a problem if I weren't nearing retirement age, though. Then again, big shovels of snow do that to me too. If you have the upper portion already, regularly get 1-4" of snow, and can put something heavy around, this is a good deal. If not, I'd consider a full-blown snowblower, maybe even Ego's model. ... show more

  • This power shovel is AWESOME!
I've been using this power shovel for a few months now and it is fantastic. It works well on light fluffy snow as well as heavy wet snow. I live in Colorado and I've tried this shovel on both kinds of snow with great results. It actually throws the snow farther than my old, big, loud, gas powered snow blower! ... show more
