  • Keeps the temperature steady.
The egg turner doesn't work well with quail eggs if you have to double them up. Next time I'll try the goose insert.

  • Beginner-Friendly Incubator with Clear Dome for Exciting Hatch Watching
I picked this unit up late in the season and tested it with non-fertile eggs. The digital controls are straightforward, letting me set temperature (°F or °C), track days to hatch, and adjust tray rotation timing. Humidity shows clearly on the display and is automatically balanced through the external water bottles, which can be refilled without lifting the lid. This feature is significant because it helps maintain steady temperature and humidity levels, which are critical for successful incubation. The turning system ran smoothly, the circulation fan kept conditions even, and the built-in candler is impressively bright. Candling is important because it lets you monitor development and remove any eggs that stop developing, which reduces the chance of a rotten egg exploding in the incubator. The 360º clear dome is another highlight. It is not only practical but also creates real anticipation, since it allows anyone to follow the progress of pipping and hatching as it unfolds. This incubator holds up to 18 standard or small eggs, or 8 larger ones such as goose, duck, or turkey. Two interchangeable trays are included for flexibility, although smaller eggs may not sit quite as securely in the turner. Another plus is the alarm system, which is noticeable. I discovered this firsthand when the humidity level dropped before I added more water to the system. Cleanup looks simple, as the parts come apart easily, and the manual provides clear guidance. One tip is to save the styrofoam packaging because it adds insulation if you are incubating in a drafty area. For a compact incubator, the combination of digital precision, automatic turning, external humidity control, a bright candler, and a clear alarm system makes this a strong value for beginners or hobbyists. I am starting it at 4 stars since I have not yet run a full hatch, but if temperature and humidity prove stable over multiple hatchings, this unit will easily deserve a full 5 stars. ... show more

  • Super nice little incubator!
Etegow 18 Egg Incubator for Hatching Eggs with Automatic Egg Turning and Humidity Control for Chicken, Ducks, Goose, Pigeon, Quail, and Parrot Eggs I decided I wanted a smaller incubator, as the smallest capacity I had was 30 eggs. I came across this Etegow 18 egg incubator with automatic turner, temperature and humidity control, and built in egg candler. It easily holds up to 18 large chicken eggs. Perfect! And, it still has the handy features I am looking for per the listing. So, I decided to order it. Upon arrival, I was not ready to set eggs. So, I decided to run it through a thorough testing. This way I'll know how well it holds temperature and humidity before it's time to set some eggs. Assembling the incubator is simple and straightforward if you've had this style of incubator before; but if not, just follow the instructions. (Be sure you don't skip the step about installing the gear or the turner will not work.) The incubator has a good sturdy feel to it and it's well made, just like my larger and more expensive incubators. The fan, turner, and candler all work flawlessly. The water bottles fit well and function properly. Once I had it set up and running, the temperature rose quickly to 99.5° F. The humidity rose a bit more slowly, but it didn't take long to reach the percentage I was looking for. (Note: If you use warmer water, it will reach stability more quickly.) Be sure not to squeeze the water bottle as too much water will go into the reservoir and you may struggle with the humidity level for a day or so. I have a mini thermometer/hygrometer which I put in one of the outer egg slots. It showed a slight variation, but this probably due to the fact that the incubator reads from the center and the mini is at the outer edge. The built in candler is bright and functional. The incubator performed wonderfully throughout the test. It maintained the temperature and humidity levels. It's easy to observe what is going on inside thanks to the sturdy clear cover. I like the ability to set the rotation frequency and the "turn timer" feature. It gives you an indication of how long it's been since the last turn and how long until the next turn. Just to check what would happen in a power failure, I unplugged the incubator. When I plugged it back in, it had kept its settings. I didn't have to reset anything. I also added the second water bottle to simulate lock down. Once again, the humidity rose fairly quickly to the appropriate level. This incubator is easy to disassemble and reassemble. I like how easy the control panel removes from the cover. This means cleaning will be pretty easy. This incubator also has an audible alarm. It worked superbly when the temperature dropped below threshold. It's nice that it came with a tray for larger eggs, although I may never use it. This is just about as hands-off as an incubator can be. There are many thoughtful features included, which I appreciate. So simple and works wonderfully. I can't think of anything that I would fault. After testing, I'd recommend this little incubator to anyone. I believe you will be very pleased with your investment if you choose this incubator. ... show more

  • Super fun and educational-worth every bit
Got this incubator to try hatching a batch of eggs with my daughter and it did exactly what it promised — automatic turning, built-in humidity control, and the clear window lets you see everything happening (which she loved). Setup was pretty simple and it held the temperature steady once I dialed it in. If there’s a “but” it’s that you’ll want to keep a close eye on the humidity levels during the full 19-21 day cycle (it’s just part of incubating) but that doesn’t really take away from how cool the whole process was. If you’re a handyman type who also likes tinkering with fun side-projects, this incubator is a solid pick. ... show more

  • Life uh, finds a way
The time has come and you've feared that it might. You have 12 fertile eggs but no broody hen to toss them under. Now what? Well you'd need an incubator probably, and this one fits the bill for real. Back in the day you didn't have all this automatic egg turning. You had to do it by hand. Kids these days don't even know how easy they have it with their poultry (and more????) incubation and hatching. Easy to use and totally functional and adequate quality. Like I wouldn't run over it with an Abrams tank or even a Sherman. But there's not many that I would. And chickens (and other creatures) certainly don't know how to drive the things. In that way, this is close to the platonic ideal of an incubator. Chicken tank proof. A standard of living to be upheld at all costs. And you can have it for the low low price of currently under $60 American. Spend em fast folks, while they're still worth something. Something that's enough to give life to birds. And pretty good sized ones at that. ... show more
