Top Amazon Reviews

  • With these speakers I am well pleased! With these speakers I am well pleased!
Originally was shopping for monitors for my synthesizer, and stumbled across reviews for these speakers. Saw a sound demo of Edifier speakers vs JBL monitors and they went toe to toe, but having the Bluetooth capability so that I can listen to my music on command via Alexa (Amazon Unlimited) was the tipping point. These speakers are excellently packaged and well protected during delivery. The package was 45 lbs. cuz these speakers are built like a tank! The real solid wood sides are rather attractive and the speaker covers are also elegant and sleek, but are sheer allowing the looks of the drivers and tweeters to be appreciated. They don't seem to diffuse the sound at all IMO. Now, for the record, I'm new to the speaker game, but I've listened to some outstanding audiophile approved equipment, so I appreciate hearing music as it was meant to be heard, and these speakers opened up old familiar tunes and brought out detail and nuance. I couldn't stop grinning for an hour when I plugged it in, connected the two speakers with the surprisingly robust cable, and connected my echo dot via Bluetooth. My 21 year old daughter said it simply and best when she remarked "These speakers are making me really excited about music!" I've only had them a few days and haven't even finished a burn in, but they have met and exceeded expectations thus far. I moved them into an adjacent bedroom with the door shut to paint and enjoy music, and thanks to Bluetooth aptx they suffer absolutely no connection issues. Still yet to hook them up to my Korg synthesizer, but I am expecting that to sound amazing as well. The 120W provide plenty of room filling sound and would excel as home theater speakers as well with excellent bass response. I sense no distortion of sound even at max volume, which is pretty darn loud. Truthfully, I wanted the Edifier S2000Pro, but Edifier has taken them off the market for some reason, so I went with these after seeing so many glowing reviews. I love them and wish I could take them with me everywhere I go. My next purchase will be some proper speaker stands, so they can be elevated to an optimal listening position. An excellent investment for lovers of music! UPDATE: Had these for about 5 weeks now and I got some Edifier speaker stands which put them at the perfect height for my man cave. Highly recommend them. Also found that wire connecting my Amazon echo dot to the speakers gives even more powerful sound than bluetooth. Also, the synthesizer sounds awesome through them! I attached a video of my daughter just fiddling around with my Korg running thru the speakers, but it's just a phone video that doesn't do it justice. February 2019 UPDATE: These speakers still perform flawlessly. I use them to play music, basically all my instruments (synth, guitar, vocals, drum machine), and bluetooth my phone thru them on occasion. Its so easy to transition between them all with the remote. I have been so happy with them I bought some smaller Edifiers for my office at work. December 2019 Update: These speakers are still kickin butt, with frequent, nearly daily use. And they are on and powered pretty much 100% of the time. Last weekend, I used them outside for a Christmas movie display outside in the front yard. We had a projector displaying onto a movie screen and watched Elf, Christmas Vacation & Die Hard, and the Edifiers took care of the sound. There was a small amount of frost on them by the time we finished but they are still working flawlessly. These speakers may be the best music entertainment purchase I have ever made. ... show more

  • If you're on the fence of buying these, read this.
Before I give my input on these speakers, I'd like to give you a little background - I own the Edifier 1700's, Klipsch RF-82's, Audioengine's A5+, and a host of other speakers from mid grade to upper-end audiophile quality speakers. I consider myself to have a pretty good ear for quality, all of my vehicles (Including my wives) have full component speakers, and are separately amplified. With that being said, I was expecting quite a bit out of these at the price of 349.99, especially at almost three times the cost of my 1700's (Which are excellent for the size). Unboxing - They were packaged excellently! They were shipped inside an amazon box, and inside the Amazon box is the outer edifier protector box, and finally the box with the speakers in them. A delivery driver would be hard pressed to hurt these speakers, you could literally throw them around and inside three boxes they are safe. Very impressed Edifier went the extra mile to double box it (and amazon to put it in another box on top of that!). Build Quality - The build quality on these is incredible for the price, it is on par or even above my Klipsch's or audiogene's, the attention to detail is excellent and the fit and finish are on point. I was a little worried about the picture of the wood, that it would be too "Oaky" looking for my taste, but the color was quite a bit warmer than it looked in the pictures which were a nice surprise. These things are heavy! Even the speaker without the amplifier is very hefty for its size. they did not skimp on material or build quality in the cabinet. The only thing I'm personally not a fan of is there is no grill tabs around the tweeter which make it a little flimsy. The remote control works well and is a HUGE improvement over the plasticky remote that came with my 1700's. It almost feels as if it's made out of aluminum, and has a little weight to it. Also, the including cables are a nice touch. It comes with a Toslink optical cable, 3.5MM Aux to RCA, and RCA's. The cable between speakers is very long and high quality. Sound Quality - This is what it's actually all about right? I've heard many speakers, and own quite a few myself as previously stated, and all I can say is they are exceptional. If these speakers were $499, I still think they would be an excellent deal, which is a lot coming from me, considering the fact that I'm kind of cheap and always looking for a deal. The high's, mid's and low's blend together flawlessly. The tweeters are not shrill, they sound extremely uncolored and natural. I feel as if most speakers (especially self-amplified) lack either mid's, or low's, and are one or the other type speakers, and I can absolutely say that these S1000DB's do both, exceptionally well, and with clarity that you don't find in this price range. The frequency response in the lower end, in my listening room, which is a little biased to help the lower end, with corner placed speakers and listening area in the rear center, helps the low's a bit acoustically. These dug much deeper than they claimed to. Response from Edifier is down to 48HZ. I tested these and they stayed steady down to 37HZ -3DB! That is literally incredible considering their size (5.5" Woofers), and even more incredible considering it does the low's so well, while also having excellent sounding mids. They do get quite loud, I would say they are very efficient speakers. Plenty loud for me, I don't think I'll ever turn them up past 75%. They do sound flat and undistorted to maximum volume. I could literally almost find no cons with these. A+ To edifier for making these affordable and without compromise on sound quality or build quality. ... show more

  • Hear what you've been missing....
S1000DB Review - I spent some time reading reviews of various speakers at different price points and finally settled on these because they seemed to receive almost universal praise, while staying well within my budget. There's a risk to buying moderately expensive speakers without hearing them first, or knowing if they will be suitable for your particular set up. In terms of Amazon purchases, this was possibly the best risk I have ever taken. These speakers are truly amazing. At this price point (just under $350), they represent terrific value. My particular set up is a simple 3.5mm jack (included) connected to my laptop on a large desktop. I use a graphic equalizer that came with the computer. The speakers additionally have bass, treble and volume knobs on the rear of the 'active' right speaker to enable you to tweak as needed. An optical port is included, as well as the traditional RCA inputs. There is also a coaxial input. The speakers are Bluetooth compatible, and to get the most out of this functionality, you will need the latest software, though a quick question about backwards compatibility I posed to the seller indicated that they will pair with any device that supports A2DP. I planned to test this out, but I have been so pleased and impressed with the 3.5mm direct input, that I haven't felt inclined to bother. The set comes with small remote that operates volume, mute and power, as well as the ability to switch between inputs. The active right speaker displays a different LED color depending on the input. The speakers are appropriately heavy (as all good quality bookcase speakers should be) and are made to a high construction standard with high quality materials. My understanding is that Edifier is a Chinese company. While we're all very used to seeing 'Made in China' on practically everything, I got a certain amount of satisfaction with buying something that was made in China by an actual Chinese company. After using these speakers frequently for about a month, I will echo the point raised by others, that you can listen to old and well-established favorites on these things and be completely surprised by the amount of detail in the music that you've been missing. They do an extremely good job at picking out individual instruments and components within the music with great clarity, without overwhelming the sound. I occasionally listen to music that has a hell of a lot going on at once, and these speakers handle it all with great poise and balance between high treble and low, pounding bass so that nothing gets distorted, without that odd processed sound that I've experienced with Bose products in the past. These speakers are very powerful. The vast majority of users should have no complaints about power. Though your neighbors might. In conclusion, you feel like these speakers were made with high respect and regard for music, allowing the listener to explore each individual part and instrument to the fullest. What else can you honestly say after that? I don't think you'll be disappointed. ____________________________________ November 2020 Update - still performing flawlessly after over four years. Outstanding audio quality no matter what you throw at these. ____________________________________ March 2025 Update - Over 8.5 years and still sounding fantastic. • Good Speakers But Audiophile?
Nice shelf speakers for use with Bluetooth devices and as a secondary sound source. I bought these for my Sonos sound system and use them in a small bedroom. While they cannot perform at the same level as some speakers their size, they do an adequate job for their intended purpose at that price point. I don't expect a lot from shelf speakers that are internally amplified and have extra internal circuitry for use with Bluetooth. While the bass is not what you would want for primary speakers, they do a good job of filling a small room with sound. Because they are self-amplified, I can use multiple music sources such as the cheaper Sonos Connect ZonePlayer 90 instead of the more expensive amplified ZonePlayer 120, so it saves me money and space. And if needed, I can set them up with my smart phone for on-the-go parties*. They are ported in the back and have a small red light in front on the primary speaker when powered on. The remote that comes with it has room for improvement and is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket but can easily get lost. A caveat: If you lose it, you will lose some of the speakers' functionality. These speakers are attractive and work better at table or lower-shelf level and are heavy for their size as they pack a lot of circuitry inside for all they do. *It may be a hassle for someone who wants to use them in a multi purpose role as the settings are more of a set-it and forget-it type of configuration. Going back and forth from Bluetooth to a configuration like I use with Sonos can be too much trouble for some people. ... show more

Style: Wifi Enabled
Great value for the price! Using speaker with a turntable that has great sound plus solid base for its size. Being able to stream music from my smartphone to the speakers is a big added plus!!

  • The S1000DB powered speakers were a wonderful surprise in quality of construction
The S1000DB powered speakers were a wonderful surprise in quality of construction, appearance, and performance that was far above what I expected. While I am not an audio engineer, I am an electronics engineer and an audiophile with enough experience to know that the better specifications of the S1000DB warranted the modest increase in price; and, after experiencing the surprising performance of these speakers, I have no regrets at all about my decision. The diverse array of bluetooth, phono, optical and coaxial inputs are easily selected by the little remote control unit and allowed me to easily integrate the speakers with my TV, DVD player, PC, and cellphone. Some negative comments suggest that losing the remote control is a disaster for switching inputs, but that must only be true for the chronically lazy because pushing inward on the powered unit's volume control knob steps though all the inputs just like the remote. While it takes the effort for one to get off his/her backsides and walk over to the powered unit, all system functions are fully operable from the unit's local controls without the remote. Other reviews also find fault with the fact that the volume control knob is simply a rotating up/down level control with no stops and that the volume level reverts back to mid-level when the speakers are powered down; however, this is a much appreciated feature for those who've partied all night with a sound system at full volume - then soiled themselves when turning it on again in the morning. The bass response is very good and quite surprising for such a relatively small set of speakers, but don't expect them to rattle dishes in the kitchen cabinet like an expensive home theater system with a brain-pounding 200 watt sub-woofer. The mid-range and high frequencies are crisp, crystal clear, un-distorted and perhaps a little overpowering at high volume levels; however, turning the bass control up and turning the treble control down a bit brought everything into a very good balance in my living room that has no-so-whoopie acoustic properties. My wife has acute hearing efficiency that is far above that of most people (probably a bit better than that of a whitetail deer), and she is crazy about these speakers because she can run them WFO with no distortion whatsoever while she's playing her head-pounding zumba-dance music through the bluetooth link from her cellphone while working out. While these are Chinese-made speakers, the US-based seller/distributor backs them with any needed service, replacement or setup/installation information which helped eliminate my worry about buying them. The speakers arrived very quickly after I ordered them, and the seller sent me a lengthy email right after their arrival that expressed thanks for my purchase and included extensive contact information in the event there was any shipping damage, performance problems or installation/operation questions. I've read some of the reviews that suggest the many highly positive reviews for these speakers come from shills working for the seller; however, after putting these speakers trough some my usual skeptically-biased personal testing, I'm convinced that most or all of the highly negative reviews either originate from shills working for competitors or from those unfortunate few who are unable to understand the simplest of instructions. I can't speak for the lesser Edifier models, but I am extremely happy with the model S1000DB I purchased and seriously doubt that anything near their very reasonable price can either equal or better them. ... show more

  • Overall Fantastic Speakers with a Minor Drawback Overall Fantastic Speakers with a Minor Drawback
The Edifier S1000DB speakers are my first 'audiophile' grade speakers. Before these speakers I was listening to audio with the speakers in my Acer Chromebook 14 and Asus Zenphone 2 speaker. So yeah these things are a HUGE upgrade compared to the tinny barely usable speakers in my computer in my phone. Pros: -Crystal Clear Sound Quality: I love listening to my favorite pop tracks that I hear on the radio in my car except there is so much more with these speakers! You can hear each individual instrument, background vocal and so much more. -Variety of Inputs: I love being able to stream via Bluetooth for watching videos with my computer or streaming Google Play Music via Chromecast Audio with the optical input. There are plenty of inputs for all of your devices. -Build Quality: These are heavy and rock solid speakers, definitely quality construction Minor Drawback: Hiss from tweeter: There is a constant hiss from the tweeter that can be heard when you put your ear within 6 inches of the tweeter. This worried me at first that I had defective speakers but as I understand the hiss is due to noise from the amplifier. From a review on head-fi.org: "Unfortunately The S1000DB carries the same SNR as Edifier’s lower speakers, >85Db, which is disappointing for a flagship speaker. The same kind of hiss that affected the R1700BT and R2000DB is just as present on the S1000DB, the hiss still increases as the treble dial is turned up". However this is just a minor drawback since it is not observable at normal listening positions. Even sitting only 2 feet away (I normally sit 7-8 feet away) these speakers sound amazing! Overall I went with these speakers since I did not want to invest in a separate integrated amplifier and passive speakers. I am glad I made the decision to purchase the S1000DB. The value proposition is great and no doubt these speakers punch above the price range though it is not as if they will sound and perform better than a separate amp/ passive speaker system costing 2x as much. However for $300-$350 you would be hard pressed to get a better stereo speaker system. ... show more

  • STAND-ALONE Powered Speakers- FANTASTIC sound & SO simple to Use
l actually bought these based on the reviews and their dynamic characteristics, the wide frequency response, their effectiveness at both high and low levels, etc., for hooking up with my integrated amp as a part of my audio system. But who needs the amp? If it's not readily apparent to those of you with limited space or equipment, these powerful stand-alone speakers are all you need. Fantastic! (BTW, I bought these speakers over others because of the reviews that mentioned hearing sounds/fine detail they'd never heard before in music they'd listened to a zillion times, and that is indeed the case. What a pleasure, audio HEAVEN.) Operated by a very simple remote, you put these in the corners and then stream your audio source wirelessly via bluetooth from your phone or PC. You can tweak the sound for your personal preferences via dials that govern bass and treble on the master speaker- set it and forget it. For different kinds of music, you can tweak further via the equalizer in your music software on your phone or PC. Of course there are jacks for hooking up all kinds of wired equipment if desired, such as a cell phone or portable cd player via its headphone jack (for that you'll need an rca to 3.5mm adapter, here: 3.5mm Male to 2 RCA Left & Right Audio Female Adapter. The speakers come with rca cables). The photos don't do these speakers justice- they're GORGEOUS, made of beautiful wood. And they're heavy. I put these in my vintage travel trailer, and they sound so wonderful and are so easy to use I don't think I'll bother to add anything else except a portable CD player. Buy these, you won't regret it. Highest recommendation!! ... show more
