I was looking for some high quality Bluetooth capable speakers for the living room, without breaking the bank. I wanted something small, but with great sound. Read the reviews on these Edifiers and decided to try them. I figured for only $150 I wouldn't be taking too much risk if they didn't live up to the hype. Well, I'm happy to say they absolutely lived up to all the hype and more. I already expected them to be good based on the reviews, but I was still caught a bit off guard by just how good they really do sound. Quite frankly, I'm not sure how they can pull off this level of quality for the price? These speakers are quite a bit heavier than I expected and also a little bit smaller than I expected (which is nice). The cords that come with them to connect the speakers to each other, etc, are quite thick and high quality. The finish on the speakers is pristine, and they are solid as a rock. They are impressive visually - just beautiful, and sonically superb. Nothing chintzy about these speakers in any way. I'm just some guy who likes music, so I don't really know how to describe the sound from a professional standpoint, other than that they sound really clean and tight. Bass is solid and clean and absolutely not lacking, despite the small speaker size. Mids and Treble also very clean and crisp. I can really hear all the vocals well, and the highs are sharp and crisp without having that too sharp sound that is sometimes almost painful in certain speakers, if you know what I mean. They just sound good - really good. Balance of highs and lows is just really, really nice. I didn't even adjust the Bass or Treble - they sounded fantastic at the neutral adjustment setting. I did try turning up the bass just to see where it would go, and it went from tight and solid to a bit more thumping, if that's what you like. Like I said, I'm no sound pro, but I'm not a stranger to good speakers - I have some nice KEF's for my main stereo with a 240 watt amp, 80 watt separately powered sub, etc, so I feel like I have some experience with good sound. These Edifier's are as good as anything I've heard, really. Obviously, these don't get as loud as my main system, or have quite as much bass, but I don't need them to. I just wanted something nice for my living room when I want to listen to music there, and I have absolutely fallen in love with these Edifier speakers - just wonderful. Bluetooth connectivity worked great - without a hitch to my Android phone. So far I've listened to some Van Halen, Queen, Garbage, Tribe Called Quest, Led Zeppelin, Craig Finn, Fatboy Slim, Sunflower Bean, Fountains of Wayne, UB40 (on CD), and Vanity Fair. It all sounded outstanding on the speakers. I'd rate them 10 stars if I could. If you are questioning buying these, do not hesitate, you won't be sorry. I will probably buy another pair for my son who is leaving for college, as well as a pair for my cabin. Again, I really have trouble understanding how they made these so very good for such a reasonable price. But hey, who cares? Buy them and just enjoy the amazing sound, knowing you have money left to spend on music to play on them!

I have always been much more into headphones than speakers as I enjoy the detail and clarity of phones, but sometimes I prefer to use speakers because headphones are to "in-your-face" with their presentation - it's hard to work while listening to headphones at times. Anyways, enter the R1700BT - I didn't want to break the bank for speakers because again, my critical listening is done on my headphones, but wow - these have really blown me away. Sounds are very clear and lifelike - in the audiophile world we refer to the naturalness of sound as timbre - think of listening to an actual guitar vs. a guitar reproduced on a bad audio device. Generally they sound metallic or tinny. Well, this speaker - despite its very modest asking price, produces incredible timbre! Much better than any other speakers I've had - definitely, definitely better than the inbuilt speakers on my PC or monitor. Bass is fantastic. I don't think I'd ever even need a woofer cause at medium volumes you can get the desk and floor to rumble a little. Finally, the soundstage is very wide and airy - you feel immersed in your music, as if it's surrounding you. I don't feel I am missing anything in the music when I listen to these. They have the naturalness and clarity I look for first and foremost in sound, but also a satisfying low-end. Pair that with a great set of functions (BT connectivity, ease of setup, small form factor) and this speaker is a winner!

Look, no speaker at $150 is really going to a five-star speaker. It's just not. But these are a great value and will definitely satisfy all but the most audiophilic among us. Which, I almost consider myself to be one. I am a sound snob. So when other reviews say the bass tone is a bit muddled, a bit undefined, they're right. I can hear that. But it's not bad. And for $150 I'm really impressed. The speakers create a big warm sound, great clarity in the mids and upper regions, enough power in the bass, they do my turntable justice and fill the room easily. A huge upgrade from the Bose Companion computer speakers I was using. My order did arrive with a defective right speaker, which was crackling like crazy. Edifier support shipped me a new pair of speakers a couple days later, and they arrived by UPS Ground a couple days after that. Disappointing initially but they didn't give me any guff, and the replacement set sounds great. Bluetooth connects fast and sounds great too. The remote is basic but it works. Be aware when you first turn the speakers on, they'll automatically be on Bluetooth, with the light shining blue. To use the line-in (like your turntable), you'll need to hit the line-in button on the remote, which will make the light shine green. If you need powered speakers (to avoid using a receiver, for instance), and you're on a budget, this is a good choice. They're probably not as good as a Klipsch pair, but they do cost $350 less. I bought these because I like to play records, and my turntable is isolated away from my TV speakers. I personally wouldn't use these for the TV, because they're just two channels. Everything on TV is in 5.1 or 7.1 now, so I'd use a true surround speaker set, or a fancy soundbar that can decode all those channels.
