  • Perfect Kegerator for an ICE COLD BEER!!
Update two years later: I still LOVE my EdgeStar Kegerator. It still keeps my beer ice cold. I recently bought an AcuRite Deluxe Wireless Weather Center (atomic clock) at Costco (for about $30). The reason I bought it is that it has an outside transmitter that sends the outside temperature to the unit so you can tell what the temp is outside as well as inside. This unit also measures humidity and some other stuff I wasn't interested in. I wanted to monitor my beer temperature without having to open the fridge door. I simply put the outside transmitter inside the kegerator on top of my keg. It works GREAT! In fact, the unit I bought not only tells you the current temp (inside and outside) but it also registers the high and low for the day. It resets itself at midnight each night. So now, with the outside transmitter sitting on top of my keg inside the kegerator, I not only know the exact temperature of my beer at the time I'm pouring it, but also the range that my EdgeStar has kept my beer for the past day. Knowing the current temp was my target. Getting a 24 hour high and low is a real bonus. As said before, I like my beer near freezing. Several times I came up with frozen lines and had to let them thaw. Now, I can see the temperature range for the past 24 hours and monitor the low to make sure I don't freeze again. Still a very happy beer drinker. Original Review: I did a lot of research on kegerators before deciding to buy this one by EdgeStar. I have wanted a kegerator for years to replace the system I had in an old refridgerator in the garage. What prompted me to actually pull the trigger is that I saw one at Costco for under $400. I came home and began researching that unit online. What a rip! Breaking down.....poor customer service....beer not getting above 40 degrees. Yuck!! Then I stumbled on this unit from EdgeStar. While there were no reviews for this dual tap model in Amazon, I was able to find plenty of written reviews on their single tap models. I called Edgestar to verify that the dual and single units were, in fact, the same fridge and they are. Several of the reviewers mentioned that they couldn't get the unit below 40 degrees (much like most of the other manufacturers I researched) but that just one call to EdgeStar customer service resulted in very detailed instructions on how to adjust the thermostat to get the unit to go lower. I put mine together in a matter of 30 minutes and had it plugged in and cooling down. I didn't put a keg into it for maybe 5 days wanting to see if it would be cold enough. Sure enough, mine got to 40 degrees and stopped there. I like my beer very cold......I mean near frozen.....so I wanted to get this new unit down to maybe 33 or 34 degrees. I emailed EdgeStar customer service one evening around midnight. When I got up in the morning I had an email response with an explanation of various factors that could prevent it from getting cold enough. For example, having it outside or building it in so there isn't enough space around the unit for the cooling system to operate efficiently. Mine is free standing so I didn't have any of the issues that would have prevented it from getting cold enough. The email went on to provice very detailed instructions on how to reset the thermostat to get it to cool down more. They even provide pictures showing the procedure step by step. The final step was to tighten the little set screw in "finger tight" then back it off 2 full turns. After reassembling the thermostat it suggests letting it work for 24 hours. I did and MAN! did it work a lot better. In fact, the instructions state that if it gets too cold you need to repeat the last step and back the set screw off 3 full turns instead of 2. Since my unit got to 30 degrees overnight (and froze the beer lines that lead to the tap tower) I repeated Step 5 and backed it back 3 full turns. Now, two days later, my beer comes flowing freely at 33 or 34 degrees. JUST AS I LIKE IT!! If you are considering a new kegerator, EdgeStar units are GREAT!! Their customer service is lightning fast and very easy to deal with. Also, while you are spending $450 to $499 for a single tap unit, go ahead and get the two tap unit. It's only about $50 more and gives you plenty of options as to what beers you can enjoy. Two of the 1/6th barrel tall skinny kegs fit perfectly in there. There are lots of beers available in 1/6th kegs so you can be the King of the Keg in your neighborhood by having the only duel tap in your Man Cave!! Besides, you also have the option of putting a half or quarter barrel in there too. They all fit!! So, don't just sit there reading and researching. Buy this unit and start enjoying an ICE COLD BEER!!! ... show more

  • Good unit, but some cheap parts and poor packaging
Color: silver
Recently purchased and assembled this unit as a gift for my father. This is my honest take on the unit from my experience. First things first, the packaging that it was shipped in was somewhat shoddy. Double-boxed, but the bottom of the interior box was ripped out completly allowing it to move inside the outer box. I believe this led to at least one of the following defects. After unboxing, I found that there was a ~4" gash in the side of the unit; the paint wasn't scratched but it is very noticeable. Part of the metal frame at the bottom of the door face was warped outward, which until smashed back flush with a hammer was interrupting the door seal (which would have allowed cold air to escape). Finally, one of the two interior shelves was hastily shoved into the interior of the unit during packaging and was half bent; I could not fully unbend the shelf to look "normal". If we didn't need this assembled and operational the next day for a surprise party, then it would have been sent back for a replacement unit. Beyond this, the unit itself is pretty well built. The parts are all of average quality, and the unit itself holds sub-40 degree temperature well. The CO2 and beer line tubing are both PVC based, I will be upgrading the beer lines to an antibacterial sanitary grade tubing at a later time (Ultra Barrier Silver). The CO2 tank regulator is only a single gauge unlike most others on the market that show both the tank pressure along with the line pressure; this isn't a big deal but it would be nicer if it was dual gauge in order to monitor the tank pressure to know when you need to get it refilled. The tower comes with interior insulation, which I have found to be very good as it keeps it cold enough and to not pour a ton of foam when you haven't poured in a while, and a lot of other towers on the market do not come with interior insulation. The taps are decent, but drip for a minute or two after pouring anything; I'll be upgrading these to Perlick taps for sanitary reasons regardless but they suffice. BE SURE TO CLEAN THE INSIDE OF THE TAPS BEFORE USE, there was some black "gunk" (almost like a grease) that was just inside both of our faucets. The keg couplers were fine. There were no issues with the CO2 tank itself. All of the supplied hardware (line T, hose clamps, etc) were sufficient. My final gripes about the unit. The sides (but not front or rear) get HOT on the outside, more so than any minifridge I've ever owned (which is essentially what this is - a glorified minifridge with taps). The drip plate is also just a piece of cheap rectangular plastic that sits on the top of the unit under the taps, and unlike most drip trays on the market it does not have an inset curved shape to set flush around the tower, it just awkwardly sets there and looks out of place on a $500 unit. The instructions were easy and simple to follow, if you're mechanically inclined in the slightest, then you won't have any issues assembling this. All in all this unit was worth the money over restoring an old Kegerator that we had with a new dual-tap Kegko kit (that project was about $80 less altogether than buying this new unit). I will however be upgrading a lot of the components here - drip tray, taps, beer line tubing, and possibly the regulator. UPDATE 03 JAN 2018: Just wanted to add a couple of notes after a couple months of use and upgrades. The included PVC lines have been fine as long as they are cleaned (we use Regal Marketing Kegerator Beer Line Cleaning Kit), we haven't switched them out to a different tubing yet but haven't had any issues after a couple of different kegs. The included spring-loaded taps tended toward being leaky here or there, mostly probably from not being completely pushed back into the closed position by tipsy guests, but even then some slow drips still continued from time to time. The short tap handles don't help with that. We've replaced the taps with Perlick 630SS taps and haven't looked back - they're wonderful. I recommend getting a thermometer to keep inside the unit, once we got the temperature dialed in and stable for a few weeks, we were able to dial back the temperature setting knob which helped with the sides of the unit getting so hot. They still get a little warm, but not as much as they did at the start. We also added a distributor T with individual line valves to replace the included CO2 line T/Wye, it's just an extra preventative measure to keep CO2 from leaking from an untapped line when we only have 1 keg installed. Overall, we've been pretty satisfied with the unit after some upgrades. ... show more

I wanted to wait a week or two before writing this to make sure it wasn’t a piece of junk. Well, I’m happy to report, it’s not. First thing u should know is that I had a homemade kegerator that I built from scratch that I kept in the garage and was made from an old refrigerator. I decided to buy this because it’s not an eyesore and will fit in the dining room without being obnoxious. That being said, I was actually pleasantly surprised when I received this. I actually considered building another homemade kegerator out of a smaller mini fridge prior to ordering this to save money and I am so glad I didn’t. You will never ever build a unit as decent as this from scratch or mini fridge. Do not let the YouTube guys tell you otherwise. I promise. By the time u add up the fridge, the parts, the pieces, you’ll have a homemade mini fridge that dispenses beer. Nothing more. This is a actual kegerator thats well built and easy to assemble. I would only note that some of the parts are more on the economy side of quality. Like the co2 regulator and the actual beer taps. However, I do not feel like they’ll fail on me. The rest of the stuff is absolutely quality and worth it. I’m halfway through my first, two 6th kegs and not a single hiccup. I only deducted a star for the price (it’s not cheap but absolutely worth it) and the economy regulator. Oh, I also wanted to comment on the packaging because other reviewers said it was no good. I think the seller must have fixed those issues, because this thing would have had to been hit by a train to be damaged. I was actually super surprised how well it was packaged. Mine had absolutely zero shipping damage. Hope this helps. Cheers ... show more
