  • Simple, cheap, effective
This mute definitely works and is extremely simple to use. Just make sure its completely seated on the bridge. I can play in one room and my family can sit in the room over and not hear me at all.

  • Does the job
I think I had super unrealistic expectations of how quiet my violin would be using this, but it's still been super helpful and mutes well. Can confidently play while roommates are home and know I am not disturbing anyone. It's a win in my book

  • Good practice mute
I bought this product to practice at home without disturbing my family members, and it works pretty well. It doesn’t diminish the sound very much, but it does make a difference.

  • Reduces volume AND screeching
The media could not be loaded. This mute works great! It makes my practicing more pleasant to listen to because it's not as loud and you can't hear the mistakes and screeching. It's really cheap, too, and the material doesn't harm the bridge. The mute does have a rubber smell, but it's really not a big deal. It'll probably fade after a while. In the attached video, I play an exerpt without the mute and then WITH the mute. Keep in mind that the video quality is not the greatest, contributing to bad violin sound. The purpose of the video is to just show a contrast from before and after. ... show more

  • It works so well
My daughter uses it when she practices her violin late at night. We do not hear it when she puts this mute on it.

  • I can strangle cats without concern!
It's a piece of rubber with slots cut in it. As far as pieces of rubber with slots cut in them go, this one is pretty good. Make sure the rubber is not contacting the strings, just the bridge, and your neighbors will have no idea that you're a virtuoso. Saves a lot of ink not having to sign all those autographs, and a ton of social currency that would otherwise be spent on adoring fans. Also, I need not fear awakening a sleeping mechanic when I practice at 4am* *Note: my practice room is a brick extension to the main house, so ymmv ... show more

  • Good for what it is
But rubber mutes are essentially useless. Rubber coated metal mutes make an enormous difference, but the difference this makes is extremely minimal. I am a a beginner at violin, but I've tested the volume of various mutes, and in my opinion, if you insist on a cheap rubber mute, you'll be perfectly well served by this one. But it is essentially a waste of money, and you should only buy a coated metal mute. ... show more
