The auger drills nice if there are no rocks but when it hits a rock it wants to move slightly. This was a problem as I needed good locations for fence posts. Why the spiral "dirt lifting" diameter is way smaller than the 6 inch cutting plate I'll never understand. I have an 8 inch auger and the diameter is the same all the way up. Look closely at the picture because it does show the 6 inch auger has the smaller diameters.

Good product, works great in dirt and clay but struggles with rocks over 2" in diameter. Perfect for setting 5/6 and 5/7 fence posts, the hole turns out slightly wider than 6" so the mentioned diameter posts slide in tight and don't move without much if any added gravel. I used this on a one man auger and only had to use a digging bar to break up large rock in a few holes. 4 stars instead of 5 due to fact bottom blade was mounted backwards upon in boxing.

I purchased this for planting trees. I found out the auger works best if all the sod/grass is removed from the intended hole. It does a fine job in ordinary soil but not so well in hard pan or compacted soil, maybe it would have done better if I sharpened the tips of the blade more even though it was new.

My main use for this item is drill holes for metal or 4x4 wood fence posts. This 6" auger is easier to use than the 8" auger supplied with my Earthquake power auger.
