Great Canopy & A Tip!

This is a great canopy. As someone who needs protection from the sun, I love being able to sit or lay underneath this and be fully protected all day long. I've used this canopy at the beach, for tailgating and for watching kids sports. It's held up wonderfully to all sorts of different weather and it goes up very easily with two people. The first time you put it up, it is a little difficult to get the pieces up, but once you know what you're doing, it will take 5-10 minutes to get set up. We have used the stakes (very tiny) that come with it, but I strongly recommend purchasing the weights as well for it. While the stakes held up pretty good in some beach wind, I feel more comfortable having the stakes and the weights to hold it down. Also, you can't use the stakes on concrete so it's a good idea to get the weights if you're going to be using it on a hard surface. While its probably not recommended by the manufacturer, we have also hung wet t-shirts to dry from the poles within the canopy. As I stated above, we used this at a kids sports tournament and the tournament actually ended up getting cancelled by a massive thunderstorm. This canopy was up the entire time and we lowered it to the lowest level and had 7 people and a large Labrador Retriever underneath it the entire time. We each held an end (the wind was insane) to keep it from blowing away and stayed relatively dry throughout the entire storm with the exception of our feet so I know this thing can hold up to a pretty strong storm. What it can't hold up to is human error. One of the plastic clips broke because our friend was pushing too hard when we were trying to get it back down. While I don't think the canopy is broken because of this, it definitely will become more difficult to put up and down now. Just be careful when you are trying to push in the plastic clips to put it down as they can break. ... show more

Outstanding sun shelter

I had an "old" EZ up shelter of the same size, but it was maybe ten years old, and starting to come apart. This "new" shelter has MANY improvements over the old shelters!! Briefly, old shelter was raw aluminum finish, new shelter has baked paint finish on the aluminu. Old shelter had shock-corded fiberglass poles to support the peak, new shelter has folding aluminum which deploys automatically. Old shelter had cloth tie downs for the corners, new shelter has Velcro (yeah!!) The old shelter had a sack that the folded up shelter fit in which was of the same material as the top which would tear if the metal hit it wrong, the new bag for the shelter is a heavy duty material AND has rollers on the bottom for ease of moving! Old shelter had no sun blocker inside, the new shelter has the tarp top lined with an integral sun blocking metalic appearing suface. The ONLY down side I see to the new shelter is that I prefer the old aluminum large nails for pegging the legs to the ground, over the smaller, less substantial pegs that come with the new shelter. Otherwise the new shelter is a dandy! Well worth every penny I paid for it and expect this one to last ten years or more. ... show more

FINALLY the perfect beach tent

We just moved to Florida & have a 3 year old and a newborn. We were in search of the perfect tent that would be easy to put up, take down, large enough for our entire family (and extra ppl), room for all our stuff, affordable, sturdy that wouldn't blow away and FINALLY we found it with this tent. We purchased 3 before finally got this one. We tried the half moon looking ones only to find out that not everyone could be shaded at the same time, we tried extra large umbrellas only for them to be staked to the ground but the wind would make them blow up and ultimately break. Finally we tried this but also bought additional weight bags that you put sand in and OMG it does NOT move at all. We can fit about 10 ppl in here comfortable with chairs. All our stuff fits. It's a piece of cake to take down and put back in the case. I'm so glad I was persistent and refused to give up on searching. We come to the beach every single weekend and I can be completely in the shade with my kids and we can still play in the sand. It's awesome but if you are using for the beach I would not get this without the additional sand weight bags. That makes all the difference in th sturdiness. ... show more

Long Lasting Canopy

We bought this same canopy when they first came out, lasted us over 15 years! The only reason we had to purchase another is the canopy did not make it through a violent wind storm, as we forgot to lower it down when going to bed while camping. The second version seems just a sturdy as the first. It is very easy to set up and take down. I have put it up and taken it down with myself and my small daughter with no issues. Nice Upgrade to the Product

My family does several beach trips over the summer. We must have gone through a dozen of these things over the years. Most of them fall apart under heavy winds or fall apart after one season because of salt water. What Academy sells these days fell apart the first weekend. So far, the E-Z UP brand has stood up the best. They at least last 2-3 years under the conditions we put them under compared to the cheaper brands that fall apart after a weekend. I'm happy to say that E-Z UP has responded very well to the biggest arguments I had against my last model. The pull rings at the top used to be flimsy key rings. Now they are heaver and rubberized. The locks at the middle legs used to be this metal nipple with a spring behind it. That was the point of failure on my last one. The new one has a nifty new plastic cover that protects the mechanism and makes it easier to put up or take down. Very nice. I expect this product to last awhile. Note: This was the 10 x 10 Sierra model. I've found the bigger ones fail more easily in high winds (though that can be countered if they are staked down with additional tent stakes). ... show more

Great Canopy

This product worked flawlessly. I bought it w/ Amazon Prime and paid the extra $3.99 to have it shipped overnight the day before heading to the beach. The wind was blowing hard, but the canopy remained anchored with the included steaks... no problems. It was really easy to put it... I could have done it alone I think, but 2 people is MUCH easier. (4 people is almost instant) Seems to be really good quality for the price, I was quite surprised. The carrying case has wheels and is very handy to move around. It's not all that heavy to carry either. My only regret is that I didn't get the 12x12. It's measured from the base, so 10x10 is really quite a bit less. But once it was up, it didn't really feel too small. (bigger is always better though!) Good purchase! ... show more

Just took it to the beach and it worked wonderfully! We have lost a couple of beach umbrellas because of the wind at this particular beach. We were tired of throwing away money so we decided to invest in something more permanent. We are so happy with it!! We particularly liked that the legs are adjustable. We did buy the sand bags for weights so the wind won't it take it away. We used it the first day with the legs fully extended and the weights (pictured). The second day at the lowest position with no weights. When the wind picked up we did put one of the weights on because all the umbrellas around us were getting tossed around. Our canopy stayed right in place. Great place to sit and enough space for our daughter to play in the sand, out of the sun. Very easy to carry to the beach with the included wheeled bag. We're also looking forward to using it in our backyard for extra shade during parties. Nice to have a place to hang towels to dry. Very easy to set up and break down. ... show more

Built tough

I had this set up over the weekend and was only able to stake two of the corners since the dirt was just too hard on the other corners. I figured I’d be ok as it was supposed to be too windy, sure enough I walk away from the camp site and come back to find it had blown up and over my tent and then landed 30 feet away upside down. Not a dent in it, it may be a little heavy but you are getting what you pay for. The site next to us had a cheaper made shelter and two of the legs ended up broken. Great shelter worth the extra bucks, make sure you find a way to secure ALL four corners though, my luck will eventually run out. ... show more
