Sturdy and well made. Instructions should be more detailed. The 12 x 12 definitely needs 2 people to get it set up and is difficult the 1st time used. Once up and used more frequently I think it will be a great sun shade/rain awning to use.

This is a good all-round product and it comes at an amazing price! I desperately needed a sun shade for my back yard to provide some protection from the unrelenting Las Vegas sun, however I did not have a large budget. I looked at probably every type of canopy, umbrella and gazebo under $500 that is available and was eventually persuaded by the price of the Sierra II. It can get real windy in Las Vegas so I wanted a product that I could take down quickly if needed. When I first assembled it, it probably took 2 of us about 10 minutes, carefully following the instructions. It was relatvely easy for 2 people - we took our time as we wanted to do it properly. The instructions were pretty good - there was the occasional bit of re-reading to make sure we understood properly, but no more than you normally get. Taking it down was easy. Second time we assembled it, it took under 2 minutes. It could be done relatively easily by one person - it would just take a little longer. The product is lightweight and comes with a good carry case - similar to a small golf club bag. Could be carried by one person and It could be easily transported. Because the canopy is lightweight, it is not very good in coping with winds. It does come with tent pegs/pins so can be secured into soft ground. I haven't tested if this makes the canopy secure so can't comment on that. However, if you are wanting to put it on hard ground, like I was (my concrete patio), then you are always going to be susceptible to winds. Because the frame is so lightweight, it would not take more than a light breeze to move or knock over the canopy. (Several other reviewers have already described fetching it from a neighbor's yard after a windy day). This means without additional weights to hold the canopy steady, you wouldn't be able to use it on a breezy or windy day. I'm lazy and didn't want to take it up and down constantly so I bought the additional weights. So, overall, I am giving it 4 stars as I think it is a good product. It has an amazing price so is very affordable. It is lightweight and easily transportable but could also be used as a more permanent structure. However this very lightweight quality does mean it is very susceptible to winds and does need extra support to keep it steady in anything stronger than a very light breeze. ... show more

    • Great Canopy & A Tip!

This is a great canopy. As someone who needs protection from the sun, I love being able to sit or lay underneath this and be fully protected all day long. I've used this canopy at the beach, for tailgating and for watching kids sports. It's held up wonderfully to all sorts of different weather and it goes up very easily with two people. The first time you put it up, it is a little difficult to get the pieces up, but once you know what you're doing, it will take 5-10 minutes to get set up. We have used the stakes (very tiny) that come with it, but I strongly recommend purchasing the weights as well for it. While the stakes held up pretty good in some beach wind, I feel more comfortable having the stakes and the weights to hold it down. Also, you can't use the stakes on concrete so it's a good idea to get the weights if you're going to be using it on a hard surface. While its probably not recommended by the manufacturer, we have also hung wet t-shirts to dry from the poles within the canopy. As I stated above, we used this at a kids sports tournament and the tournament actually ended up getting cancelled by a massive thunderstorm. This canopy was up the entire time and we lowered it to the lowest level and had 7 people and a large Labrador Retriever underneath it the entire time. We each held an end (the wind was insane) to keep it from blowing away and stayed relatively dry throughout the entire storm with the exception of our feet so I know this thing can hold up to a pretty strong storm. What it can't hold up to is human error. One of the plastic clips broke because our friend was pushing too hard when we were trying to get it back down. While I don't think the canopy is broken because of this, it definitely will become more difficult to put up and down now. Just be careful when you are trying to push in the plastic clips to put it down as they can break. ... show more

Despite difficulty assembling this product I'm still excited about it. I do have to say though that it's not easy to put up as stated in the product name. While it's pretty intuitive on how to put it up you need brawn , make that two people with brawn. If you are a small person, don't believe you can do this alone. It does look nice however but please note it will not withstand wind or rain. ... show more
