    • My wife likes this orbital sander
This is a nice orbital sander with a very reasonable price. I used it on a wooden chair that I was refinishing (removing old stain/clear coat down to plain wood). It seems much more powerful than the older Skil Octo that I was using. I only used this DWT sander on level 4 or 5 (it has 7 speeds), and it still seemed more powerful than the Octo even though their RPMs are similar. I would guess that I would only use the highest speed on large, flat surfaces; seems like it would make a pretty quick job of something like that. The grip is comfortable, and the power and speed controls are convenient to change while using. It is slightly heavier than the Octo, but it isn’t so heavy to make it something I wouldn’t use. The box it comes in is sturdy and has a nice picture/label on the side; it will be nice to store it in to make this easy to find in our workshop (which is not the case with all of our other black tool storage bags). If you are refinishing something with a lot of details or non-flat surfaces, I still like the Skil Octo for all of the different attachments. But if you have flat surfaces, this DWT variable-speed orbital sander will be a great tool for you. The only part where the instructions are unclear is the dust collection box. The directions to empty it in the manual make it seem like it would come off of the sander, but I could not get it off. I was still able to open the cover of the dust box to empty it. There is one sentence in the manual about connecting a vacuum to the sander, which may be nice to do, but it did not give instructions on this. And since I couldn’t get the dust box off, I don’t know how I would attach a vacuum. ... show more

    • Lots to Like About This Sander
Even though corded sanders are oh-so-kinda 20th century now, I ordered this one cause I already had a coupla orbital sanders (the ones with the clamps) but didn't have a RANDOM orbital sander (the ones with the hook & loop) like this one and I'm glad I did. This guy has a very solid heavy weight feel and with the 2.8 amp motor, you know they didn't cheap-it-out with some low-power light-weight motor. Ergonomically feels good with a lot less vibration and noise compared to the plain square orbital sanders I own. Included are a decent supply of 5" grits, including a couple dust-less grits (which I have never used before, so it's nice to have them thrown in with the sander to give them a try). Comes with a two year warranty although I noted on the box that this product is not only made in China (so what else is new!) but is also actually a Chinese company, which may be problematic for any warranty work or repairs. ... show more

This orbital sander is very good quality. It has a really powerful motor that can be adjusted easily to different speeds for different jobs. I had been hand-sanding the drawer front (seen in my pictures) to try to take it from stained & varnished back down to the natural wood. And it was taking me a long time to do the job by hand, and even after much time spent, the results were not what I wanted. Then I used this orbital on it, and achieved the result seen in my pictures in about 5 minutes. Now I'll go back and switch to a pad with a finer grit to finish the job. But I'm already very happy with the results. And it is great that several sanding pads come in the package, with a nice range of grits to get started. The only VERY minor negative is that it is fairly heavy, so holding it while trying to sand something vertically can get a little fatiguing. But it's a small price to pay for the great results.     • Quiet, Clean, Comfortable and does an excellent job of sanding
The media could not be loaded. What I really like about the DWT Orbital Sander is how easy it was to use, it’s quiet, very clean and most important is does an excellent job of sanding. As the video shows I was able to comfortably use this orbital sander left handed while filming with my right hand with very little vibration. The ON/OFF switch along with changing the 7 different speeds are easy to use and are in an excellent top of handle location. This DWT orbital sander has a more powerful but quieter 2.8 amp motor than my old Sears brand sander. Very quick to change the 5 inch round 8 hole sandpaper with an upgraded hook and loop design. This kit comes with a small sample of 4 different types of sandpaper ranging from from 100 to 240 grit. I would recommend you buy a much larger package of sandpaper for future needs. I must admit due to the higher quality dust free sandpaper and the removable transparent easy to install/remove dust collection muffler system, the DWT is much cleaner while in use. Engineered into this sander is an auxiliary handle directly above the spinning sandpaper that can dramatically increases the downward force onto the surface being polished. This sander is ideal for wood, plastic or metal. This DWT Orbital Sander will be a top choice tool for me to use for many years in the future. ... show more

    • Orbital Sander that gets the job done!
The media could not be loaded. First off, this little sander packs a punch. It has variable settings from low (1) to Max (7). This puppy hums when you crank it up to 4 or higher. On the lowest setting, you can stop the motor if you press too hard. This would be more for finishing or finesse jobs I suppose. It comes with a variety of different "hook and loop" attachable sand paper circles. (5" diameter) In the video I uploaded, you can see it in action. Another nice feature is the exhaust/dust collector. It attaches easily and can be emptied after each use. Very simple, but effective. It has a nice weight to it, so it shouldn't cause too much fatigue after extended use. It has a brushless motor, so it should run efficiently for years to come. It also has rubber grips and is ergonomic so it is comfortable to use. In addition, it also has a safety switch that needs to be pressed for the motor to engage. (like most similar tools) I don't see any negatives to this little sander. I absolutely love this thing and know it will get good use. Absolutely no reason to NOT give it 5/5.
