I've been trying to find the best feeding situation, including random treadle feeders I'm afraid of using with my ladies. I think though without spending upwards of $200 this is the best bang for buck solution I've found. Straight forward, simple. This dude, assuming you place it somewhere covered, keeps the food dry, limits amount of pellets exposed to the environment, provides it shade so it doesn't break down as fast. Super easy access. It's wide enough to accommodate a couple of our ladies. It's insanely easy with the lid just to check where your levels are at. I'm glad it's galvanized steel vs alternatives. We only have six girls so this is more than sufficient. This... isn't going to prevent pests, but it's also not going to complicate anything. This isn't fancy, it doesn't have any gimmicks. It just works, it does exactly what you think it will, in the manner you think it will. Fantastic solid construction, reliable. This is a pretty typical design of feeder that's been around for as long as I can remember. I got it for feeding my turkeys--hoping that it would control how messy they are with food... it didn't. It'll probably work better for chickens or for free-choice supplements. On the down side, it's a pretty small capacity, but on the up it's well-constructed. There weren't any sharp edges to be concerned with, it's easy to mount, easy to clean, and it gives feed some degree of protection.     • High quality, but needs more fasteners
The metal of this is nice and thick, and I love that the top stays open when you lift it all the way. It's almost perfect, but has two flaws (in my opinion). First: the edges, while sanded well for burrs, are not rolled where the animal's head will enter for feed, and there is potential for injury. With the thicker sheet metal, the risk is lower than others that use razor-thin sheets. Second: the fasteners. This does seem like it could use more rivets to keep it together, especially the front bottom. The edge can bend in and create a small gap or pinch point very easily. There should be two rivets, top and bottom, on each side of the front's bottom piece. Also, as a side note, this is not going to keep out rain, so make sure you mount it in a protected spot. Overall, I still really like this and will be using it for my rabbit grow-outs. ... show more

This is a metal chicken feeder. The mental is bent, so fewer seams to come undone or rust out. The opening/feeder part is protected by the upper part, so feed is somewhat protected from rain and elements. If feed gets moldy or sour, the feeder is washable with a water hose. It holds roughly eight quarts or scoops of pellets or other chicken feed. It is easily filled, with very few kernels or grain lost on the ground while filling. It has two holes in the back for it to easily be attached to a fence or wall of the chicken coop. It's a great product! I'm pleased. ... show more

Ordered this feeder to hold crushed egg and oyster shells. I've used many variations of galvanized sheet metal products over the years and can honestly say this feeder is very well made. The typical sharp edges exist but it appears the feeder entrance has been deburred. Even on feeders in the past its never been an issue for the chickens or rabbits. The entire assembly is solid and they even included a mounting template. Everything appears to be very well thought out. Holds 5 quarts of crushed shell perfectly. I have used many a wall mount feeder and for the metal ones I always have to take care of sharp edges that can kill young chickens. This feeder had no sharp edged anywhere, which actually is fantastic. It comes with the screws and a template, which means no more guessing and moving a screw over just that little bit. I actually like this. The only thing I did to somewhat alter the mounting instructions was to put a large sheet of flashing on the wall, to keep mice from climbing up and getting into the feed. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. The only downside I have with this feeder is the small size -- it would be ideal for a smaller flock or grouping of birds. Nice construction and the design is not overly complex with tons of moving parts. Simple to fill and easy access for the birds at the bottom.
