This thing ROCKS. Legitimately saved me for what’s about to be a very hot summer. Extremely quiet. Not overly bulky even though it seems big at first. The packaging was also thoughtful for a single person with no help to lift. Instead of having to pull it out of the box right side up, you just life the box off the base after cutting the lift straps. I live in a very old house with zero insulation and it gets extremely hot in the summer. The turbo mode gets the bedroom cold in like 15/20 minutes after I get home from work. Then inverter mode after for saved power and quiet. One point of caution. You *might* need a saw to trim the window fixture depending on the size of your window. I made it work with shorter piece, but it’s a little funny, like could pop off, so need to rig another screw on the window sill to keep it from slipping since it’s fully extended. But the big piece is much too big (hence the saw suggestion in insteuctions, but like.. I don’t have a saw and I needed that thing working immediately in the heat wave). Two hoses means large section of it just to fit those, and rather different measurements for the second panel to fit the window, so it’s slightly trickier. I think for the price (which is fair, but still a lot), it would be nice if they include one more panel for window that is mid size between the large and small. It’s worth the hassle, but just nice to know you might need tools, in case you’re buying it when you already need rescuing from the heat fast. You might need a saw. It’s new so can’t speak to endurance or longevity but the warranty is nice, and their customer service policy for help with setup is also nice. Honestly couldn’t be happier. I never write reviews. But this is the one. I thought I was gonna have to move the heat was so bad but this machine saved the day. Gets my high-ceiling master bedroom in Phoenix, AZ down to 65° on hot summer nights. The window kit could be better though. We're going to have to make our own because the plastic bends and doesn't stay in place with the hoses. This creates gaps in the window. Also, the thermostat on it doesn't seem super accurate (it will go colder than what you set it to), but this isn't a problem for me. Overall, I love it. It's quiet, powerful, and pretty efficient for a portable unit. Update: We're now deep into summer and it continues to perform very well. We love super-cooling our bedroom without having to run the main house unit. Note that it does use more power than expected if you live in a hot climate like ours, even if you're just running it at night. But it's worth it and probably more efficient than many alternatives out there. ... show more

UPDATE (8/11/26): It is mid-August and the Gasbye has performed like a champ. We have had several heat waves where daytime temps reached almost 100 with very high humidity. When it gets that hot, I do have to start "Turbo" mode about 2 hours before bedtime to cool the bedroom enough to sleep, just like it says in the manual. I have generally started using the regular "Cool" mode after going to bed rather than "Inverter" mode on these hot nights; otherwise it can get warm. I have checked the drain plug several times to see if the unit needs draining, but it never has. This AC is definitely a keeper. TLDR: This is an excellent, quiet portable air conditioner with lots of flexibility for different use cases. The remote is confusing and persnickety and you'll want to throw it in the trash--still 5 stars in my book. I bought this to replace an aging Danby portable air conditioner (from about 2012) with fewer BTUs and a single-hose design. Although it cooled my 600 sq ft bedroom adequately, the random compressor jolts could wake the dead (let alone the bedroom's sleeping occupants). Some research turned me on to two new developments in portable AC technology. First: dual hoses. One hose is an intake, bringing fresh air from outside, and the other exhausts warm air from the space you're trying to cool. The main advantage is that by having a separate intake, you eliminate a "negative pressure" environment. (With a single hose exhausting warm air, it creates a pressure imbalance between inside and outside, such that the warm air outside finds ways to seep in to your room.) This keeps your AC more efficient even as it works less to cool. The downside is that the exhause hose can get pretty hot--but there is a way around that you can in my pictures. You can now buy a pair of wrap-around sleeves for your hoses, for about $20, that insulate them quite well. A temp gun showed that the temperature delta between a wrapped and unwrapped hose is about twenty degrees. They can be a bear to get on, but the velcro straps are quite strong and they stay on well. If you only have the budget and patience to wrap one hose, do the exhaust. The other new technology I discovered is an inverter compressor. In my old Danby unit, the compressor was either on or off. It would be like if the accelerator in your car could only go to 60mph, and then back to 0pmh when you pushed the brake. This not only uses a lot of energy, it's also very loud and jarring when it suddenly kicks on. Since many people are using these to stay comfortable while sleeping through a hot summer, this is far from ideal. With this Gasbye unit, you can set it to run this way with "Turbo" mode. The remote has a button for this, or you can hold down the "Fan Speed" button for 3 seconds on the unit. "Turbo" mode also maxes the fan speed. But even in "Turbo" mode, the Gasbye is noticeably quieter than my Danby unit. In fact, it's not much louder than my white noise machine, and not very unpleasant at all. There is also a standard "Cool" mode, which allows you to set one of three fan speeds, or you can set the fan speed to "Auto." There is also a dedicated "Inverter" mode that you can set by holding down the "Mode" button for 3 seconds. This allows the compressor to ramp down to save energy and reduce noise. For any of these modes, you can still set a goal temperature--the unit just gets there more or less aggressively depending on the mode you select. The manual recommends setting the unit to "Turbo" two hours before bedtime and then changing it to "Inverter" when you go to bed to maintain the temperature. My bedroom is about 600 sq ft, and I can tell you that this unit only needs about 20 minutes to get it down to about 70 degrees. Switching to inverter mode has kept the temperature there overnight without freezing me out. (That happened the first night when I left it on Turbo.) Although it's not even June, I got to test this recently when my heat pump went out, and the temperature in my bedroom got up near 80 by the end of the day. I will be eager to see how it does in July in August, when it really heats up in central Kentucky. It also gets very humid, and this may affect the performance. It has been raining and quite humid already in the past week, but I have not had to drain it. The manual says the unit has a vaporization system that generally precludes the need to drain, although some reviewers have found otherwise. I will update this review if anything changes this summer. By the way, it also has a dehumidifier mode. The compressor still runs in this mode and blows out cool air, because that's just how a dehumidifier works. (That's a vast oversimplification; check out the "Technology Connections" YouTube channel for a much better explanation.) The unit is quite big, as you might expect for something that requires a lot of big, heavy components. It fits well by my bedroom window, but the install was a little challenging. I had to cut the panel with the openings for the hoses to fit my window properly, and then join it with screws to the smaller of the extenders. (The unit comes with the main panel and two extenders of different sizes.) It was hard to get the screw in the bottom of the two panels. Because of my window design, I had to get the panels where I needed them first, and then awkwardly come at it from the back and top while lining up the correct screw holes in the panels without being able to see them. Once I finally did that, the rest wasn't too bad. It comes with two different types of foam. There is an adhesive strip you can put on the top of your panel (or the bottom of the window that closes on top of it) and on the bottom of your panel or your window sill. There is another piece of non-adhesive foam you can stuff into the gap between your bottom and top window panes. It was a little small for my application, so I reused the thicker foam I used with my old portable AC unit. All of this together seals the gaps relatively well, although there is a little bit of daylight between the top of the panel and the window. I have never found a way around this, at least not one I was willing to put the work in to try. Other reviewers have put together some excellent DIY solutions. Their pictures and explanations are more helpful than anything you'll find in the Gasbye manual or on YouTube. I also bought a silicone mat that fits perfectly underneath it. It is 20''X20''X0.6 and cost about $15. I bought this in case the unit leaked water from the drainage port, or in case it flowed out when I opened the drain plug. Neither of these things have happened, but it gives me some peace of mind. The hose sleeves are made for 5" or 5.9" hoses; these hoses are 5.9". Because I didn't extend them all the way, I had to do a lot of finagling to wrap them. In fact, I discovered that I had to attach the hoses, bend them into the shape I needed for my installation, then carefully remove them without changing their size and shape, then wrap the sleeves and fold back the excess material, then re-install the hoses. Finally, I put the three velcro straps on each one to keep them in place. I did a good job covering almost the entire exhause hose, which is the most important. I couldn't get quite as much of the intake covered. That was the first one I did, so that's probably why. But I was too lazy to start over, at least for now. By the way, the unit is pretty heavy, at around 40 lbs. It's manageable to move into position for most people--I had to get it up a flight of spiral stairs, which was difficult but doable. You are not going to want to move this around much once you install it, so figure out your positioning before you start. To sum up, I am very pleased with this Gasbye unit. It cools my bedroom down quickly and keeps it comfortable without making a lot of unpleasant noise. It is much more powerful and flexible than my old Danby unit. It's a little expensive at north of $500, but it's worth the price in my opinion. My only real gripe with it is the remote. The first red flag is this statement in the manual: "Contrary to a common misconception, the remote doesn't just transmit the last pressed button's information to the air conditioner. Instead, it communicates all the stored settings currently displayed on the screen." Even if you're paying attention, this is confusing--and when you actually try to use it, it's infuriating. And because the remote needs a pretty narrow line of sight to the unit, it's very easy to press a bunch of buttons, and then when you achieve the needed line of sight, I guess they all get sent at once to the unit, essentially creating mayhem. All I know is, button presses often don't achieve what I expect them to. And sometimes, even when just pressing one button while pointing the remote directly at the unit, it does something different than the button indicates. It's maddening enough that I have basically stopped using the remote. This is fine for me, because as mentioned, the buttons and the instructions for using them on the unit itself are very good. One exception: I cannot find a way to turn on "continuous fan" on the unit itself; this seems to only be possible with the remote. But I had to fight with the buttons to even get this to work, so I probably just won't be using that. ... show more

Helpful product for summer heat!

This ac unit was a life saver! My house is an older home with single pane windows and it’s just not energy efficient. I bought this to prepare for a week and a half of 100+ degree weather. The day I received this ac unit it was 101 and my house was at 85 degrees. Instillation was easy and once turned on my bedroom was down to 75 in no time. Sleep has been better and I am really happy with this product. It’s been two weeks now and it has been going strong. My only complaint and deduction of one star is it can be loud. When on inverter mode it’s definitely more quiet for night time cooling but in cook mode on a medium or high speed it can be quite loud. Also to note, my window is high so I did need a stand to put the unit on for reach. Makes me a little scared with a little one but she’s never alone in the room always supervised. ... show more

It is really cool because it really cools.

This air conditioner does an amazingly good job in my bedroom, and uses way less energy doing it. My old dual hose was a power hog, and this has cut the usage from about 15amps to less than 9amps. I hooked a hose to the top to drain into a bucket because it also does an excellent job dehumidifying, and with how humid and hot it has been, this has been a life saver as well. Setup was rather easy, cleaning the filter is rather easy, and operation is very simple. It also has a great extra-cooling mode, and that does work well. The unit is pretty heavy, but the wheels do fine on flat surfaces. What a good air conditioner! ... show more

Effective but Noisy

This air conditioner does cool down a room but does not really reach anything beyond a standard bedroom. Effective but I have a few qualms. 1. Super noisy, it's loud and makes a wild number of noises 2. When set to auto, it will turn off even if the goal temperature is not reached 3. Happy with My Investment!

I did a lot of research before deciding to go with the Gasbye portable AC. It was an investment, and I wanted to feel confident making the decision. I had been wanting to switch to a dual-hose system, and this unit fits the bill perfectly. I was able to install and set it up myself with no issues. It's sturdily built, and the design is well thought out (the air outlet louver even glides shut when not in use... very cool! [no pun intended]). There's a great deal of flexibility in configuring the control panel to fit your situation perfectly, including mode, fan speed, auto, and even a *turbo* mode. There's a remote included, but I haven't used it. I've been very impressed with the performance of this AC to easily cool an open floorplan area that includes a 15x20 living room, plus a dining area, 2 short hallways, and a galley kitchen. I compare that to the single-hose unit of another brand that I had before, which created a vacuum and struggled to cool this area even when set to max. The Gasbye is in a different league altogether from that, and I am sure it could handle an even larger space. Another welcome difference with this machine is that it's very quiet compared to my prior unit. The Gasbye, even with the fan on high, is at least 50% quieter, which my ears appreciate very much! I've used it in AC mode only and have seen no hint of any kind of water leakage. If any issues occur with use over a greater time, I will update this review, but given my experience so far, I highly recommend this unit without hesitation. ... show more
