I'm retired and I do a lot of scroll saw, jigsaw and Dremel cutting. I use wood, plastic and metals for my crafts and home repair projects. I've used a lot of sand paper in years past. It wears out too fast, can't get into tight corners or irregular spaces, and of course, can't do a thing for the soft metals I use. I do have a belt sander, but it has limited use with metals, plastic glass and tile. There is nothing like a good set of steel files, and these are definitely a very good set! I have tried a lot of materials with these files today. First I used one to carefully smooth down some rough edges on cut surfaces of glass wine bottles. (I put mini lights in them). The soft metal and plastic Christmas ornaments also had lovely smooth edges when I was finished. Tight spots on wood sanded down nicely. I'm still making trays with pieces of colored ceramic and stone tile like we used to do in the 70's. Anyone remember? All different sizes and shapes of tile needed sanding before gluing into the tray. Such an easy project with these files. I even sharpened my garden tool, and box cutter. These useful files have beautiful wood handles and came in a sturdy storage bag. I even received an extra handle. I'm sure they will be used often in my shop, and will last a very long time. ... show more

This is my first of files and, as far as a first set goes, I love it! They're easy to hold and use, but I will say that one of the files - specifically the flat file - fell apart within literally 30 seconds of me using it. But since it can probably just be fixed with some gorilla glue, I'm fine with it. Overall, 4 stars for 4 excellent files ... show more

Fantastic quality and great size. They are a bit smaller than most files so if you have big hands probably not what you want.

    • Nice wood files, but not abrasive enough
Nice files with wood handles. The only issue is that the actual file part of it is not abrasive enough. I've been using it on soft pine and it's slow going. I don't think these will work on hardwood very well at all.

This is a nice set of files which can be used on metal or wood (according to my friend who knows tools - which I don't). I'm a woman who likes to make old furniture look different and pretty. These files suit my needs for that specific purpose. They included an extra handle, though the attached handles are sturdy and have no splits or defects that I can see.
