I installed it to automatically light up a pantry closet. All I do is slide the door and boom, it automatically lights up what was once a dark area.

    • Very sensitive units.
Over time, they have become useless, bing bonging every couple of minutes. Much more sensitive, but easier to set up. Original unit was a Dakota which went off when the neighbour mowed his lawn. This unit is really a wide reaching unit. Must use blockers (supplied) to limit angled detection I just used gaffers tape instead. I needed to block nearly 50% of the available detection surface; to prevent false positive alerts. Cars moving on street and wind blown shrubbery After fine turning the detector it works great. . I thought I might be able to just swap the detector head, but the unit had the ball on the unit, this one has the ball on mount. After a week of use, it is now sounding off every few minute [don 't point t in direction of sun]. UDATE: charge only lasts a half dozen rings; install batteries, then dies. Wind moving bushes and people easily set it off now. Very wide range even with 50% covered with 'tape'. Inexpensive enough to try a third unit. QPDATE: United died and third unit did not work after charging. Changed and installed AAA batteries and they worked fine. [gifted the second unit.] [read the instruction folder. OR watch these videos.] To SET tone the receiver MUST be powered (plugged in) After selecting tone HOLD the volume button 5 seconds to hear acceptance tone. Yet, still getting Bubg-Bong mixed in tone. Moved aim so sun no longer directed at anytime into lens. ... show more

I haven't had it for very long but, the time I have used it i am pleased with it. I like that it has a volume control so I can turn it down or up. There are so many different songs on it, I was surprised. Tight now I have it on the chime mode. It is not blaring in my ears. It sounds like a soft doorbell. That is the way my little dog let's me know he wants in the house. I have it installed on my front porch so I can hear if someone is out there. I purchased a different one before I got this one because I thought this one looked like it wouldn't hold up outside but it's great! So glad I decided to try it. It's sound emitter "ringer" that you plug in inside is smaller than I thought it would be but I love that too, it's so cute! It's barely noticeable and looks nice. It has a ton of chimes so that's fun if you're into that. I have had it for +/- a week or so now and maybe twice a bird has set it off but overall I'm so happy with the "no false alarms" and functionality of this thing. We use it in our driveway in the country. It worked right out of the box too and was easy to set up. You can add other "eyes" but it would be the same ring/sound so I thought that would just be confusing. It would be perfect for a porch or similar. I do have other areas I would like to have this so I plan on purchasing more so they will have different tones. I'm sorry I don't know the range. I have the "eye" on the driveway at the street of a normal size front yard and the "ringer" is in plugged in the entryway. Oh and you can plug in the "eye" and if that's an option for you. It comes with the batteries and the USB cable. (you will need a cube). It also has little sticky strips you can use to narrow the "eye" if you need that. Hope this helps. It's worth it.
