  • Dreo Pilot Max “S” smart fan at a smart price
Color: Starlight Pattern Name: 42 Inch Tower Fan
If you’re looking for a fan that moves some air, is relatively quiet and looks “cool” while doing it, then this is your fan. I put this in our bedroom that has large windows and when the sun rises it gets HOT. After a lot of research comparing various fans (including a Dyson product) I landed on a Dreo product that did above and beyond what I was looking for and for a fraction of the price of some of the other big name fans out there. I initially was going to purchase the standard Pilot Max because it was easy to open up and clean which is a big issue with tower fans. Then I came across Dreo’s smart fan but I was looking for something a little larger and something with easy cleaning access. With a quick message to the Dreo customer service on Facebook Messenger I was informed that combining the best of both worlds was an option with the introduction of the Pilot Max “S”. Dreo advised me that it would be a 2 week wait before they released this product and I was so glad I waited. This thing is “cool” and smart, it responds well to Alexa and the “Dreo” app and unlike the previous Pilot Max this one doesn’t have a 15 hour shutoff limit. After a few days and much cooler nights I have had some time to test a variety of settings. The speeds range 1-12 and they vary from what is a non-noticeable breeze (1) to a strong gale (12). Speeds 1-5 make a nice comfortable breeze with virtually no noise. Speeds 6-8 are my personal favorite where the noise of the wind itself doesn’t bother me but it creates a breeze that keeps my bedroom feeling cool and fresh. 9-12 are handy in small doses as the wind noise outweighs the worth of the very significant amount of air being circulated. The oscillation adjustment feature is very nice featuring pre selected angles of 30,60,90 and 120 degrees. There are 4 modes this fan offers, auto (adjusts fan speed based on temperature). As far as I’m aware you cannot adjust the temperature the auto mode is selected for but it does have a onboard temperature sensor for its own adjustments. Natural mode will vary the speeds of the fan to simulate a natural breeze feel (personally this one is my favorite) and can be adjusted to vary between speeds 1-12. Sleep mode will step down the speeds by about 3-4 over the course of an hour which is nice but not super useful for me personally as I get warmer the longer I am in the room (unless this fan is running of course). Lastly is the “normal” mode, you get what you get with this one, nothing special here. Moving on, the remote has very good range and has a great hand feel, and seems very durable. My all time favorite feature of this fan is the fact you can turn off the beeping every time you make an adjustment… This review is early on and I will update should something go terribly wrong (which I don’t expect to happen at this point) and Dreo doesn’t work with me to fix it. That being said this fan also comes with a 5 year warranty so you really can’t go wrong with it and like previously mentioned the customer service is phenomenal. ... show more

  • Should you get the Dreo tower or circulator fan?
Color: Starlight Pattern Name: 42 Inch Tower Fan
When you think of a tower fan, you typically think it's just a tall thin, more stylish fan that can't compete airflow wise compared to a standard large noisy floor fan. This fan exceeded my expectations. It is a lot more powerful than any other tower fan I've come across and it's relatively quiet even on its max setting compared to a traditional fan. But my favorite part is when you are sleeping you can put it at 6 or 7 for the fan speed and it's whisper quiet and you still feel the fan. So if you don't want to have to sacrifice quietness or the ability to feel the fan, you don't have to. This fan definitely eliminates that issue. The fan is a smart fan, so you are able to customize the settings through the easy to use phone app. You can even link it to your Google account routines so it can auto turn on at a set time and turn off at a set time which is convenient for those who are on a sleep schedule. A few people have mentioned that the fan auto shuts off in the middle of the night? I know you can set an auto off timer through the app, but personally I've never experienced it. But that's also why I have Google turn the fan on and off automatically so I don't have to worry about it. If you want to be extra safe you can always turn the fan off before going to bed and turn it back on to reset the internal run time timer and you shouldn't have any issues. Again, it's never auto turned off on me unless I have it scheduled to do so. I purchased the gold version of the fan and I highly recommend dishing out the extra money because it adds a bit of style to the fan. But other than being aesthetically pleasing, there are no other additional benefits than the color. The fan has many different modes. Sleep mode makes the fan quieter, turbo makes the fan stronger than the normal speed, natural mode will make the speed fluctuate to give you an out door breeze feel... and normal mode is just normal. I've heard people mention that the fan is noisy or makes a rattle sound after a few uses.. im pretty confident they must've been aggressive with the fan or dropped it because I personally haven't experienced any issues like that. One thing I want to mention though, the grill on the front, isn't the entire size of the fans vent. The bottom area is where the motor is and so that portion of the grill has no air flow and its just part of the design. I set my fan on 9, which is pretty powerful and relatively quiet and I just place it next to my bed. It really helps with being able to lower the ac in the summer, especially where I live which is well over 100 degrees all summer long. I also set it on a box so it's tall enough to where none of the fans vents are being blocked by the mattress. But it's not necessary, the fan works fine at a further distance, I just personally enjoy a more cooler sleeping environment and wind blowing in my face. If you are someone who's on the fence of buying this or a dyson fan... I was that person.. but for less than the cost of a dyson fan I bought the dreo tower fan and the air circulator fan for much less than a dyson fan and still saved enough money from the difference to be able to purchase the dreo hepa air purifier... and the dyson fan was weak and was very noisy, sounded like a blow dryer running all night. The only hard debate there is, do you buy the dreo circulator fan or the tower fan? Both do an excellent job and both are quiet. The key difference though is the design and the functionality. Do you want the most quietest fan that gives the right amount of power? Then get the tower fan. If you want extra power for those hotter than normal days and you don't care about the quietness because you are rhe type who can sleep through a hurricane, then get the circulator fan. I am both of those people so I bought both and my electric company is thanking me because my bill has significantly dropped since using both. And one last thing to note, the circulator fan does have a feature in the app where you can guide the fan to a certain direction, you can move it with a virtual d pad to move it left, right, up or down. Which is a super convenient feature when you don't want to constantly get up to manually move the fan, this feature is only available on the circulator fan, the tower fan does not give you that option. And if you don't want to go through your Google settings to set a scheduled automation, the tower fan has the schedules on off feature on the app, but the circulator fan does not have that option! That is why I linked both fans to my Google routines and created a routine to turn them both on and off at a set time. And whatever speed setting and mode you left the fan at, is the setting it will be on when the fans turn back on. It's nice that it saves those settings and you don't have to reconfigure it every time you turn the fans on. I hope this extremely long review helped you decide which is best for you. :) ... show more
