A drain auger that made me stop calling a plumber

I’ve been burned by cheap plastic drain snakes before, so I was a little skeptical about this 25 ft drain auger. But after dealing with a totally clogged bathroom sink for two days, I decided to give it a shot. And honestly I am impressed. First off, the build quality feels legit. The spring steel cable is heavy-duty and flexible at the same time – it bent well past 90 degrees to get around the P-trap under my sink without kinking. The pistol-grip handle is a nice touch. It actually fits in your hand comfortably, even when you’re cranking through a stubborn clog. I didn’t use the drill adapter this time (wanted to feel the resistance manually), but it’s there for next time. The drum is made of thick ABS plastic, and the whole thing doesn’t feel like it’ll fall apart after one use. What really surprised me is the extras in the kit. You get a 24” retrieval tool (haven’t needed it yet, but smart to have), three drain snakes of different sizes, two cleaning brushes, a pair of waterproof gloves (these saved my hands from gross gunk), and a PE auxiliary tube. Plus a storage bag that actually fits everything. For the price, that’s a lot of stuff. Using it was straightforward. You loosen the stop screw, pull out the cable to the depth you need, then tighten and start cranking. I pushed the cable down about 8 feet before I hit the clog – that hairball didn’t stand a chance. After a few back-and-forth rotations, the water started draining like normal. The cable retracts smoothly back into the drum with no mess if you wipe it down first. The included cleaning brushes are great for that. For beginners, you may want to watch a YouTube video to learn how to use it. Also, the gloves are one-size-fits-all and a bit thin, but they do the job. Overall, this drain auger saved me a $200 plumber visit. It works on kitchen sinks and shower drainage as well.

The 25-foot length gives it plenty of reach for clearing clogs in the kitchen sink, bathroom, and shower. The flexible spring steel is sturdy but still easy to maneuver through the pipe. Overall, this is a practical and useful tool to have at home, especially if you want to deal with clogged drains yourself instead of immediately calling a plumber. Good quality for the price.

Says you can either manually have it the cord come back or wheel it in. Neither options work for my device. Neither. Sadly it’s been too long and I can’t return or I would. Nobody wants to manually push a cord back into the product after it was just in the toilet or drain. Gross. I wouldn’t buy this unless you want to push the cord in yourself, even tho they advertise it goes by wheeling or pressing the button

Holy cow!!!! Sooooo worth the money. I had a clogged bath tub drain so I knew it had to be hair and if I could just get to the main line I would be good. My daughter and I both have long hair so it doesn’t take much to clog a drain. This snake was long enough and easy to use with the drill. Just be careful when using the drill because my glove got caught once. The kit also includes lots of other items you can use to clear and clean drains but the snake was the reason I ordered this. It worked amazingly. I’m very happy I didn’t have to call a plumber!!!

It broke on first use

This is unfortunate because I overall like the idea of this and the accessories and packaging are clearly thoughtful. But on my very first use of it - and to be fair, there was a big clog - it bent out of shape when I pulled it up. I am a bit upset because it seemed to be good value for money. I suppose it would be good for minor clogs, but maybe not serious ones. Also I did find the instructions a bit confusing, you have to manually pull the metal rope down yourself and the drill part is just to spin it around, it doesn't actually help pull it up. That said, the reason I am giving this two stars instead of one is that despite the fact that it broke, it did actually get my clog out. Which was cheaper than a plumber. So, I suppose it did its job, even if it was only one time.
