Description

Back in the 80s, the 8065 shoe turned the tradition of impractical women’s footwear on its head. Fusing a classic T-bar fastening with a rugged AirWair sole, the well-trodden silhouette remains a favorite to this day. This edition stays true to the Original construction, with tough Smooth leather and signature yellow welt stitching. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

I absolutely love these shoes. They’re great quality. Comfortable right away [more so after a very short break in period] Yes the buckles can be a pain and the straps are short, but they’re not impossible to deal with. I’d recommend using a shoe horn if you plan to keep them buckled as the leather in the back looks like it may separate from the inner leather if you aggressively try to shove your foot in. Though they are pretty durable so it might not. They are bright white so any scuffs I’ve gotten this far I’ve been able to remove with a simple pencil eraser. I am normally a size 9 in all other shoes but with docs I’m always a size 8. I have 8 other pairs of docs and they’re all 8’s. These fit as expected for docs - meaning they fit when you size down. They are comfy and super adorable especially with the cute socks you can pair them with. I want them in different colors now. ... show more

Amazon tells me that I purchased these August 2013, and I have been wearing them pretty much everyday since receiving them. They have held up incredibly well and with a little bit of polish, you'd hardly guess that they've been worn everyday for the last 2-1/2 years! I walk a lot - to work, school, grocery store, aimless wanderings, anywhere from 2 to 5 miles a day. While the weight of the shoes may take a little getting used to (they are heavy) they are incredibly comfortable and I have never had a problem with standing or walking in them for extended periods of time. Since I walk on the outsides of my feet (supinate), quite a bit of uneven wear has developed on the heels and I'll probably end up purchasing another pair of these in the next six months or so, as parts of the sole have started to wear through in the heel area. Since I wear a US 10, I ordered the UK 8 and they fit quite nicely with thicker socks, but feel a little loose with thinner socks. I could never image wearing these without socks or knit tights, as it just looks and feels very wrong (in my opinion). They are very easy to slip on and slip off, so they've only been unbuckled a handful of times and the top of the backs are only just now starting to show a little wear from pulling them over the heel. They work well with pretty much anything, from jeans to business casual to skirts with knit tights. I don't remember having a "break-in" period with these, which leads me to think that if there was one, it didn't last very long. They are instantly recognizable as Doc Marten's and I receive compliments/comments on them periodically. While they might seem a bit pricey when compared to similar looking shoes, when you consider the quality and durability they are worth every penny! I have been very happy with these shoes and anticipate that I will be equally happy when I order a replacement pair. ... show more

These fit me well in size 8 and I love the style. Only drawback is the stock insoles as they’re not great for extended wear. I replaced them and the difference was night and day. If you’re on your feet a lot, budget for better insoles and you’ll be happy.

If you're a regular Docs wearer, you already know this style is one of the more comfortable with little break in required. But the color is what drew me in. I thought it was going to be a powder pink- which I was good with- but when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised. Docs name the color "dusty rose". I can best describe it as thistle (the permanently discontinued Crayola crayon color) which is a pink with a dusting of purple to it. It's GORGEOUS! If you remember this color then we are at least a similar age. Thistle and periwinkle were my favorites in the box as a child. I was immediately transported back to my coloring days when I saw them. The Virginia leather is known for its softness and these were no different. If you love this style of shoe, this color is definitely a standout for the collection. I have a pair of 1460s I'm currently selling in a similar but slightly darker color. They are the smooth leather- which I hate- but purchased due to the color. With this shoe, I can let those boots go with a more than stellar replacement. Go on and just add them to cart sis. ... show more

These are inferior to the old MIE Docs. The leather of the straps is flimsy. The buckles are thin and wobbly. I did not expect them to be as good, but I did expect a bit higher quality. Also, the insoles are absolutely worthless. I took them out and put Dr. Scholl's into the shoes. That having been said, the soles appear to be traditional Doc Martens and the color is great. I am sorry they have gone downhill. This is my first new pair in several decades; I have been buying vintage, but I could not find this color or any light color in my size on the vintage market. Still worth having but not topnotch. I would rather pay more for MIE. Their customer service agent direct on their own website told me that only men''s shoes are MIE these days. Sad. ... show more
