  • Big size high quality bed slate smell painting
Color: Espresso
At first, I want to emphasize that my two children and I love this bunk bed so much. Have better need two people to cooperate, one for installation , the other one for holding them together. It takes four hours to finish it, thus be patient please. You need some one who can use electric screw diver well. This is my husband first time install the bunk bed, but he often helps others to install metal platform bed frame. This bunk bed have a very good looking, I really like this color and painting so much. I want to emphasize that the painting with no any bad smell, it is very good for health. In addition, I still have something very important to emphasize, cause by the bed slate. The bed slate (with no painting they are made of natural wood )always keep volatilizing at beginning 20 days. I can’t remember how many bed slates for total. I think it is about 20 pieces. The number of 20 bed slates means will have much more natural smell keep volatilizing. It is natural smell, thus it is nontoxic. Like flowers, many people like it, but many people have allergy to it. My nose have allergy to it. My both children are fine. I suggest you could buy it in early time, it takes about two weeks to deliver to you. You should consider to buy early cause by these two reasons. Then, I have one more important thing to emphasize. You had better to put your mattress to your down bed firstly before you install stepladder. I found a big problem to put mattress on the down bed after I finish installation. I can’t put it on the bed if I am not smart. You need a little skill to put your mattress on the bed. My mattress only 4 inches, one side is hard one, one side is soft one. That means it can’t be bent. I should put it from the bed side with no stepladder and lift it up to enough height, then, will have enough space for the length of mattress. My mattress is standard full size. You will easily understand why it doesn’t have enough space to match the length when you put the mattress. I will show the picture to point it out to right position of height. I hope this had better to be noticed on the guiding paper. Then, I want to say the design for installation is very professional .That means it is not hard to install it and every one could do it. I should say the designer is very professional and made everything to be simple and clear. Even the package of the bed is very standard with high quality and level, only two simple and solid package. But please take the time and be Patient. Finally, I highly recommend this bunk bed. I also suggest you to buy bunk bed like this one because up bed and down are the same size( both of them are full size). Even my children one is three, the other is four. Enough space is better for children. ... show more

  • Sturdy wood frame bed
Color: Espresso
This is a high quality bunk bed at a great price. The instructions were mostly pretty clear but I did end up having to make two alterations/corrections. My first error was the orientation of the drill hole guides on the headboard which holds the perpendicular support beam for the bed slats. I used a tape measure to transfer the hole locations on the other side. My second error was the bottom bolt holes that hold the ladder in place ended up being on the opposite side after lifting the bed onto the other by myself. Didn’t want to do that again so I simply drilled new holes and countersunk them for the bolts. My one issue I did encounter, not of my own doing, was with securing the ladder to the top bunk. To do so I had to unscrew the slats that were in the way of the bolt holes, a minor annoyance, but an annoyance none the less. Lastly I have doubts about the structural strength of the top bunks guardrail attachment located next to the ladder. It has a wiggle to it and although I have told my children not to use it to pull themselves up onto the top bunk but kids will be kids. I will end up securing the rail on the other side for more stability. In conclusion, this is a really outstanding bunk bed frame with mostly clear instructions that looks fantastic and is very sturdy. I highly recommend this product. ... show more

  • Nice looking bed, brutal assembly process
Color: Grey
I'd readily spend $100 more plus $30 shipping if they prebuilt the headboards, and slats on this bunk bed. It took me 4 hours to unpack and build the unit. I was able to build it by myself. The tolerances on some of the pocket holes for the barrel nut/bolt assemblies was not up to modern standards. I ended up drilling two of them out for better alignment and accidentally drilled through the one frame rail. Dorel needs to hire an IKEA industrial designer or engineer to show them how knocked down furniture should be designed and assembled. Amazon fell down by only shipping one box (box 1 of 2), then making me return that box so they could ship me the proper two boxes. The boxes weigh a ton, maybe that's why box 2 didn't show up the first time. Amazon did process my return and deliver the second bed box set in a rapid manner, and they picked up my return promptly - I just had to leave it on the front porch and be home when they picked it up. Not too much hassle. The bed looks great. It's huge. I should have maybe gotten the twin instead of full, as the bed fills the room and the ceiling fan is really close to the upper bunk - I need a bigger house lol. Bed seems sturdy. I'm happy with the bed, though still need to get mattresses for it. I bought a Thuma bed for 2x the cost that took me 5 mins to put together and will be easy to move. This double decker Dorel bed will take a day to disassemble when I move but maybe I'll forget how hard it was to assemble by then. I would do the following design changes (I'm a designer btw, like for real): 1) connect all the slats like Thuma does with a fabric strap so we just lay them down and secure to bed 2) pre make the headboards in China or wherever it's made and ship assembled 3) eliminate styrofoam packaging, IKEA doesn't need styrofoam 4) enlarge hole for USB cord, was a pain to thread the plug through 5) make the bed easier for disassembly, no way will lower or upper half fit thru door when we move 6) barrel nuts and bolts need better tolerance, look at how IKEA joins components and emulate them Overall it's a solid bed at a good price that we will likely enjoy/fits the bill. With some thoughtful improvements it could be a game changer. Makes me want to design a better bunk bed. ... show more
