I love this Stanley thermos. I own several other Stanley thermoses and they never disappoint. I tested this one out by putting boiling hot water in it and checking it every several hours. At hour 8-hours, it was still PIPING HOT and 18- hours later it was still HOT!! Very happy. Will be perfect for soup, stews, tea, coffee etc and will last an entire work day without going cold. I own another thermos- the 1.5qt one- and that one kept my tea piping hot for 24-hours! These thermoses stand the test of time (nearly impossible to destroy) and really do keep your food/beverages HOT or ice cold, and can be passed down from one generation to the next. I no longer bother with anything else. I love this size because it is versatile and can be used for both beverages and food and fits easily into my bag (not too tall). Do not hesitate to purchase. I bought this thermos for my husband to use for lunch. He was so surprised that the food stayed hot. He packed it around 8:30 a.m. and didn't eat his lunch till about 3:00 p.m. and he said it was still piping hot. He didn't even have to fill the thermos all the way to the top in order for the food to stay hot (like another brand he had used before). Yes, it's a few dollars more than off-brand ones but this is extremely sturdy and kept my soup piping hot 7 hours into my work shift. Piping hot as in I needed to let it sit open for a while to cool off.

I am a Stanley fan. I love sturdy products than can go in the dishwasher! I use this thermal jar to bring soup or chili to work. It's still hot at lunchtime. Then, later, when it's time to clean it, a thorough rinse (to remove stray food) is all I need to do before tossing it in the dishwasher. One other recommendation: if you are a coffee drinker, I highly recommend Stanley's metal French press, too. I use it daily. (That, too, goes in the dishwasher, and I don't have to worry about shattering glass.) ... show more

Loved it for the insulation of cold food. Didn't love the weight when empty. However, this has been the best insulating food jar I have used. I didn't try it with hot food, but I think it would still be very good. It would be great for vehicle carry but you'll have to decide if the weight is worth it in your backpack if you are on foot. Bought this thermos so I could bring hot soups to work. Very pleased at how hot it keeps my soups. I do pour some hot water inside thermos for a few minutes, then empty water and add soup. Keeps hot for hours.
