I'm an Apple snob and have been using MACs for 25+ years. So as much as possible, when it comes to computing tech, we stick with MAC or iPhone or iPad, etc. I know, I get it, it's very snobby of me and Apple products aren't exactly affordable. I share the above to give you a sense of who is reviewing this tablet. I have certain standards based on my Apple experience which may set the bar a bit higher than the rest. So with that said, I had my doubts that this off-brand Android tablet would stand up to my standards. To be clear, we picked this up to have around the house for workouts, quick access to the internet, sitting out on the deck watching YouTube, etc. Nothing too serious. Because it was going to float around the house and it was not one person's responsibility, I didn't want something that was too expensive. Fit & Finish: Overall, this DOOGEE 11-inch tablet appears and feels to be well made. The back is all aluminum and when I asked the question if the screen was glass or plastic, I was told by the seller that it is glass with an anti-fingerprint layer on top. The overall feel of the tablet is good and all of the different materials seem to fit together well. I've seen and held other really cheap tablets and this one feels much better. It's not iPad quality but there's really nothing about the fit and finish to complain about... although the anti-fingerprint layers does seem more like a fingerprint magnet. Function & Operation: Speed/function: Generally speaking, the tablet does what it's supposed to do. It's not an iPad and its speed is noticeably slower than an iPad but it's also one-third the price of an iPad. Having said that, the speed/lag is not an issue. I'm not waiting for things to open but the lag is there. So far I have not had any issues with any of the apps I've installed. No crashes, no odd or strange glitches. So far it's run just fine. Screen: Thankfully, screen brightness is fine. I use it out on the deck while enjoying a glass of bourbon and a cigar and watch sports or YouTube and have not had any issues with the lack of brightness. Touch sensitivity hasn't been an issue either. Again, I was told it's glass and the finger print protection kinda sucks. Sound: The sound is actually pretty good and I enjoy using it without headphones. My wife uses it for her workouts and has it cranked up pretty loud so the speakers seem to do their job. Overall: Overall, this has been a great budget tablet option for us to have around the house and how worked well for its intended use. The fit and finish are solid and its operation has been on par so far. If my opinions change over time, I'll be sure to report back and update this review.

By today's standards this is a very heavy and bulky tablet. Initial setup was simple and straightforward, walking through the expected setup screens. But from there, things got a bit glitchy. First, the touchscreen is not very responsive, and the display is not as vivid and sharp as even my older-version Samsung tabs. This one has the latest Android OS, but still seems to be a bit sluggish and slow. And the camera app does not want to cooperate AT ALL....always displaying a dialogue prompt to configure tablet settings before use. I have changed/modified every possible setting (even though I knew I shouldn't have to) and still can't get the camera app to allow use of the camera. This is just one example of a glitchy and clunky user experience. I should point out that I am not using broadband, as I am not ready to commit this to any particular service provider. So this tablet is operating without a SIM, which shouldn't effect usability/functionality any, as long as I'm within wifi range. One thing that also concerns me about this tablet is that it should have come with a case. Albeit, other mainstream tablets do not; but given that this one is not a popular model, not a lot (if any) third-party suppliers are making cases. Doogee should have considered this point in their launching of this product, and at least offered a low-cost alternative to just walking around with a slate in hand. Incidentally, I WAS able to track down a case for this, but it's going to take a month to get it....so I don't know if it's being made to order, coming over by boat, or both; but again I say this is something that should have been included, especially at this price point. I had hoped for better, but (if I'm being honest) wasn't surprised by the lack of quality and usability with this tablet.
