  • Decent heater, cheap hoses, awful instruction manual
I bought this heater for my rectangular Intex pool 9' x 18' x 52". It holds approximately 4,500 gallons of water. I know this heater is designed for smaller pools but I was OK with the longer period of time it would take to heat the pool. I use an upgraded pump, the Intex 3000GPH. The pump that came with the pool was just too weak. I upgraded the pump before I bought the heater. The heater had nothing to do with this uograded pump decision. When installing the heater, I tried to use the hoses that the heater came with, which was a mistake and a big waste of time. I bought these 2 way adapters to convert the heater hoses hose to my larger 2.5" Intex hoses. I rigged something up, and it worked for a day or 2, before The outbound heater hose burst. They are made of cheap rubber. If your pool has 1.5" hoses, do yourself a favor and upgrade to the hard plastic 1.5" Intex hoses. If your pool has the 2.5" Intex hoses, go with the Intex 1.5" to 2.5" adapters right from the heater and don't bother with the heater hoses. You may experience a drop in water pressure coming back into the pool as the water travels through the heater. Unfortunately this heater uses 1 5" hoses for the water traveling through the heater, and this cuts down on the pressure coming back into the pool. It is maybe a 20% reduction from without the heater. The instruction manual to operate the heater is horribly written and very confusing. It reads like it was translated into English and not well. The control panel appears to have 6 different functions, but it's not really clear what these functions do. For a heater like this, I would think it should be just as simple as an on and off switch, with whatever fail safe mechanisms are needed. Maybe somebody can post a YouTube video about what the control panel on this thing is supposed to do. There is one YouTube video but it is very short and it just shows some guy moving through the different functions but it's not clear what these functions do. The music is snappy, however. I don't strongly recommend the heater, but I wouldn't steer people away either. It's doing the trick. The water coming into the pool is warmer than the water going out of the pool. I'm sure there are heaters in the same price range that are more intuitive to operate. ... show more

  • This unit will not heat below 60*F. It will freeze over and shut down.
Easy plug and play. Recommend using your own hoses. Compact. Minimal 3Amp draw on 120v outdoor plug. Instructions are basic but clear. Heating is slow but constant. Recommend a solar heat pool cover when not in use and overnight, and for overall heat retention. This will greatly extend the life of the unit. Will heat up to ten degrees above ambient daytime temp. Recommend turning off for nighttime Temps below 60*F. ... show more

  • Doesn't work
I am in Arizona so was hoping to warm our 4,000 gallon above ground pool for use all year. Maybe the climate here is too dry but the unit freezes within 10-20 minutes of operation and the water coming out becomes cold. I even ordered a pump with half the output (530/gph vs 1000/gph) and tried a whole bunch of different things including repositioning and letting it run continuously (the defrost function did work with continuous use but the water coming out was never warner than the pool water). Interestingly, if I covered the return jet with my hand for a few seconds and released it, the water coming out would be warm for a few seconds as it was supposed to be, but then by cold again. But it just never seemed to work right. I am returning and have to figure out a way to repackage since I already got rid the box and only UPS accepts these returns. I do give credit to customer support for being responsive and trying to help. But I don't know if my unit is just defective or it doesn't work in a desert climate. I understand that it works better when the outside air is warmer but even sitting in the sun on a ≈80°F day it would spit out cold water and the fins would freeze up. The warmest the pool temp ever got to was 69°F (starting out at about 67°F or 68°F) after a week of use and I did use a solar pool cover. ... show more

  • Only worked for a while, had to return as the weather got colder it stated to freeze up.
I think it could work. The unit has to be shipped with arrows on the box facing up. Warned of this in the manual.

  • Confusing
Mmm.... haven't figured out why it frost up or how to stop the frost. Instructions was garbage and the settings are useless

  • Didn't work
The heat pump never worked. I tried it at a variety of temperatures ranging from 78 to 92 degrees. Extensive frosting occurred each time on the grill outside the evaporator coil. The output water temperature never felt warm and it never raised the pool temperature even 1 degree. Perhaps there was a defect or adjustment that could have fixed the problem. Customer support was virtually non-existent. The owner's manual was nearly incomprehensible, the worst translation from Chinese I've encountered. I had to return the product after about a month. ... show more

  • not enough heat even for 1000g
produces very little heat. It raises about 1 degree per hour 1000 gallon pool at starting temp around 70 with a pool pump 2tons/hour as recommended for this heat pump. But the heat pumpit is promoted to heat for up to 4000 gallon pools.
