My new favorite toy! I love this thing! It works great and has a reasonable range, not too far where it’s beeping at everything, but easy to pinpoint in a hole where the metal is. I’m a complete beginner and I figured this thing out immediately. My only wish is that it made different tones for different metals, but for the price it works great and feels super durable! I had a need to locate several survey pins on my property. I have the survey so had a good idea where they were but they were buried about 6" deep in heavily rooted soil. Quite a few years ago I tried with my Bounty Hunter metal detector and a different cheap Pin Pointer that I got from Amazon. I only found one of the three I was looking for. The discrimination on the Bounty Hunter needs to be set very low to detect the iron pins so it gave many false hits and that prior pin pointer had to almost touch the survey pin to detect it. Very frustrating. When I had the need to find the other two pins, I decided to try a different pin pointer. This one had good reviews and was priced right. Wow! What a difference. Using the survey and the Bounty Hunter I honed in on the pins and with the Dmyond pin pointed both of them. Took me 20 minutes to find all three (I had to re-find the one I had found earlier). The Dmyond easily detected the pins under 6" of soil and roots. I love this thing and am now encouraged to try some actual treasured hunting (as if I need another hobby).

I’ve been using the Dmyond Rechargeable Pinpointer for a bit now, and for the price, it’s honestly hard to complain. On dry land it does exactly what it’s supposed to do — quick, accurate target location, decent sensitivity, and the rechargeable battery is a huge plus. It’s lightweight, easy to carry, and definitely makes digging more efficient. The only real downside is water performance. It’s technically listed as water-resistant, but in practice it does not like being submerged. The moment it goes under, it becomes unreliable and chirps like it’s picking up ghosts. As long as you keep it above the waterline, though, it works just fine. For anyone needing a budget-friendly pinpointer for parks, yards, tot lots, or mild beach work, it’s a great value. Just don’t expect it to behave well underwater.

As soon as the package arrived from Amazon, I immediately put the battery in and quickly read over the instructions. A few days earlier, I had lost a metal screwdriver flathead/slotted bit in my lawn as I was refurbishing our mailbox. I searched for over an hour that day but could not find it for the life of me. I tried dropping another screwdriver bit in the grass to see what it would look like and found that once the bit was lost in the grass, it was almost impossible to find by eye and hand unless I saw exactly where it landed. In my case, I could only narrow it down to a 6’x2’ area of grass where I remember the bit slipping out of my hand. I began sweeping the area in 1’x1’ areas of grass but upon further testing with another bit, I found that if the screwdriver bit had fallen over 1” into the grass, the metal detector would not find it unless I was really pushing on the grass to get within detecting parameters. After ~30 minutes of this method without any buzzing or beeping from the detector, I decided to use it vertically like stabbing and sliding the pointed detector in line patterns. I started randomly poking and dragging the pointed end of the metal detector in the grass into areas that I thought it might have been in, and voila! It finally buzzed and beeped! I was so relieved to find my missing screwdriver bit (OCD, I know) and knew I had to write a review right away. This metal detector would’ve been very difficult to use had I not been able to narrow down the area where I thought it was. For example, if I had the screwdriver bit on a clipboard and was walking around the grass and suddenly noticed that the bit was gone, this metal detector would not be able to help me find the bit because of the very short distance in which this detector works. This is where you’d probably need to purchase one of those long beach metal detectors that you see on tv. Pros: Works, but very limited applications (probably works better in sand and gravel) Vibrates and has audible alerts. Beeps are more than sufficient to hear Runs on 9V battery Small and portable Comes with lanyard and belt holster Built-in LED light, very dim though and not very practical Cons: You must know the general area where you dropped your metal item. Unlike a full-size beach metal detector which has more sensitivity and doesn’t require you to be on your hands and knees, this handheld will have you searching for hours if you a) don’t know the general area where you lost your item and b) dropped the item in something thick like grass or foliage. In my case, I was searching through 2-3” Florida St. Augustine grass and it was quite difficult. The metal detector only has about 4” of actual metal detection, which makes it incredibly difficult and time consuming if the area you need to sweep is large or drop location is unknown In the instructions, it states that for small things the size of a paper clip or hex/screwdriver bits, the detection range is only about 1”. You would literally need to be on top of the item for this handheld to detect it. This will vary on the medium in which the item is lost though.

My main purpose in buying this was to locate the buried iron pipes identifying my property boundaries. I knew approximately where they were, but over the years they got covered by dirt. I wanted to install a fence on one side of the lot so needed to make sure I had it in the right place. Initially I was struggling as the detector wasn't finding the pipes, but today I was more methodical and it found both of them, along with pieces of buried electrical cable and other things. I also experimented with finding drywall screws in a wall, which it did very well with. Some of these pinpointer detectors don't claim to be sensitive enough to find things buried more than a few inches; this one claimed to go up to 12" and it worked well. It's easy to use and well made. I like that it can be set to tone+vibrate or vibrate-only, the sensitivity can be adjusted and was worth the price I paid.

Bought this for my son, who is a finish carpenter, to go with his metal detector kit, but he's been using this on his job and is very happy with it especially since it's rechargable (he hates regular batteries) and detects things in walls he needs to be cautious of before drilling into the walls.

This pinpointer is totally worthless. The pointer has to actually be touching the metal to make a sound signal. I used it twice in the field, and I wound up having to use my metal detector to pinpoint. Won't pick up gold at all. Don't waste your money.

It detects metal just fine, however the battery does not hold a charge, so this must be plugged into external power to work.
