Story: Probably the least strong aspect. Ninja Theory's controversial depiction of Dante is that of a Nephilim, an angel-demon hybrid, who teams up with his twin brother Vergil to take down the oppressive demonic overlord Mundus. There's themes of anti-establishment, anti-consumerism, and punk and it has more than passing resemblances to John Carpenter's "They Live". It's not horrible, but longtime fans may be put off by DmC's deviations from the games that came before it. But that's the point right? Graphics: The definitive edition is merely a remaster of an early 2013 game. It does look good, but no one will mistake it for an Xbox One or PS4 game. What stands out more is the art direction. Ninja Theory did a fantastic job at creating breathtaking environments. Much of the game takes place in Limbo and we're treated to striking environments with hyper-saturated colors that morph and distort as the player proceeds through the level. Great stuff. Audio: The voice acting is well done. Reuben Langdon and Daniel Southworth didn't voice Dante and Vergil, respectively, in this iteration, but the new guys Tim Phillipps and David de Lautour do a great job nonetheless. Music wise it depends on one's taste. DmC features bass-heavy EDM from drum & bass legends Noisia and industrial metal from Combichrist. It sounds more abrasive than the music from the other games in the series but it is excellent and fits the action very well. Gameplay: The most important aspect. Simply put, it's easier than the other games. However much of that easiness is attributed to how intuitive and straightforward the controls are. You no longer have to lock on to an enemy to perform certain attacks. It's all about performing combos and dodging at the last minute while switching between Angel and Devil weapons using the left and right triggers. Thankfully the definitive edition allows players to lock on to enemies, however the camera sometimes has trouble keeping up with the action. What DmC has over the other games in the series is the level design. There's platforming sections where Dante has to use his grappling hook and Angel wings to traverse the beautiful environments. These sections are well done and hasn't been matched by any other games in the series, including the most recent iteration Devil May Cry 5. The biggest gripe I have gameplay wise is that the bosses are too easy. In fact they can be easier than the regular enemies on the higher difficulties. Extras: The definitive edition also includes the story DLC Vergil's Downfall. Playing as Vergil is less fluid and more tactile (or stop and go) than playing as Dante. He's fun to play, but the story presentation and level design are noticeably lacking, the former of which takes the form of these garish and grungy motion comic illustrations. Vergil's Downfall is easily the weakest part of the whole package. Rounding out the extras are alternate costumes, skins for the player's weapons, concept art, and the classic and fun 101 round survival mode called Bloody Palace. Conclusion: DmC Definitive Edition is an excellent remaster for a game that was not given a fair chance upon release. Despite the lack of challenge, the simple story, occassionally troublesome camera, and sub-par DLC, DmC wows with its striking visual and level design, powerful soundtrack, and intuitive controls. This is definitely my favorite Devil May Cry game. Indeed, I immensely enjoyed Devil May Cry 5, but I would like to see a sequel to Ninja Theory's treatment above anything else in the series. ... show more

A very underrated game. This game is a reboot of the series, from Ninja Theory. Unfortunately, it never went further than this, as the sequel was cancelled due to mediocre sales. Capcom then decided to pick up from where they left off, with the original series, releasing Devil May Cry 5. Devil May Cry 5 was well received. But, if you enjoy that game, or any of the games in the series... You should enjoy this game, as well. The gameplay does not differ all that much. And it's still packed with all the over the top, action, the series is known for. The Definitive Edition includes all previous DLC released from past consoles, and supports 1080p at 60fps. This game has never looked and played better. If you're a Devil May Cry fan, or just a fan of heavy action games... Then I definitely recommend picking this one up. ... show more

Was not new, came in a pre owned case, opened, had to send one back as it was with a "new" sticker on the back and disc was scratched. Second copy came in with the same pre owned case but disc works.

This game takes me back, but there is a lot of new levels in this one. The game is easy to get addicted to just like the original one. For everyone saying Dante looks different, I'm not sure why. You can select his style, including the more familiar long white haired Dante from the other games. If you do select that one, though, you'll kind of miss the point of the story progression as Dante ' s look does change over the course of the game. In short, if you loved Devil May Cry before, you will love this one even more. ... show more

I bought this game having no idea how much I would really enjoy it. I loved the characters and the story. There was always a reason for me to keep going to the next mission. I was never bored. I constantly wanted to know what was going to happen next. The combat system is so entertaining and fun. I love constantly hacking and slashing demons. I loved this game so much I bought the 4 other games in the series. I'm hoping they will be just as fun and amazing as this one. ... show more

I admit I had a lot of skepticism about the new design for Dante and the series in general. After playing however my mind completely changed. I came to appreciate and actually like the new Dante compared to the old one. The gameplay is extremely polished, amazing graphics and an actual interesting storyline. My only complaint is that the controls takes some getting used to. Being so used to playing the DMC games in the past, the new controls took some time to learn, especially switching between weapons (holding down the LB, LR, RB, RL depending on your preferences). That aside, I really like the game and hopefully a sequel will be made! ... show more
