It had no other way to open it if the battery dies. I like that this has multiple ways to unlock it and big enough to hold all of our documents in it. Thick metal walls that are fire proof. The media could not be loaded. This was a good buy, I wanted something that I could stack several thousand dollars in for safe keeping in between ATM reloads and this has plenty of space for both the money and our important business documents and contracts. The fire resistant document envelope is large enough to fit a large stack of paperwork for safekeeping, just a little extra security inside the safe. The walls of the safe aren’t spectacular, but they’re good enough to prevent someone from simply smashing it open real fast like many of the cheaper tabletop safes. We find those on junk removal jobs pretty often, and a simple crowbar pops them open easily enough. This one would require a bit more than that, and it has two ways it can be anchored: to the floor, or to the wall. Another bonus is that the keys are specific to each safe, you can’t use the same keys to open multiple safes. Nice added security touch, just in case lol. ... show more

This safe is much lighter weight and thinner, that's exactly why I love it. spacious with two levels, It fits on the shelf in my closet, bolted down, without the risk of breaking the shelf. It works as described and the key system makes me feel safe storing my valuables. It looks modern on the inside and outside which is a plus, makes me want to save more money!!! This is a nicely made safe but I gave it three stars because I question the waterproof and fireproof claims. I mean there are mounting holes in the bottom of the safe and the walls are thin. The manual also makes no statements as far as such protection so I doubt it exists. A good price. Nice size in and out. Bottom line, it’s ok but don’t expect it to protect like a true fireproof safe would. ... show more

NO WAY this is fire-proof and water-proof. It's just a lock box. It's constructed of mere sheet metal with no anti-heat (fire) material. A "free" fireproof bag is included.; is THAT the fire-proof part? The door closes and locks, but there's no seal to keep out water. 24-hour online customer service is touted, but, where? THAT information isn't revealed on Amazon OR in the user's manual. Speaking of the owner's manual... There's NO MENTION of this safe being fire-proof and water-proof. There's no Customer Service information. There isn't even a manufacturer's name, just "FCC CE MADE IN CHINA." WHAT a WASTE of time! I'm returning this falsely-advertised rip-off, and I hope you don't buy it. ... show more
