First of all, the overall presentation is great; once you slot it in the wall, it looks good; and you will forgive the fact that it is very light and at times feels like you could bend the back plates just by pushing in a bit. The flame effect is great, and overall it is pleasant to look at, although it has issues. The first problem is related to the heat output: it takes a while to heat up a moderate size room; and of course you can't compare it much to the output of a real fireplace; so if you plan to use this fireplace as heat source for a large room, keep in mind that it will work as long as you are close to the opening, and the opening is located on the top front part of the unit. The second issue is the remote; or better, the fact that there are no controls on the actual device. If you break or lose the remote, you can't operate the device. Ironically my TV remote turn it on and off when I press the option/settings button for my tv; so I assume you can find a replacement for the remote; but it is a concern. I was expecting to find at least a couple of buttons on the unit, to be able to turn it on and off, turn the light on and off and turn the heat on and off, but there are none. So beware that there is no easy way to control this fireplace without the remote. ... show more

I have always had a fireplace or woodstove. I don't have one in my current house and am 70 yrs old. I realized I can't live without one! I got this one and love it! It keeps me warm, I can stand in front of it to warm my behind like I would a real fireplace. ; ) The flames are a bit 2 dimensional until you step away and they become more authentic looking. I installed it myself into a corner cabinet, needing just a bit of metal mesh on either side to hide the 2" spaces where it didn't fill out the distance. Just having the flames on without the heater is very comforting, oddly. I feared it would be tacky, but tech has come a long way. I also bought the crackle box, which was a waste of money. It works however, the holes meant for screws to anchor the fireplace wern't drilled large enough for the screws provided. Also there was no way to anchor the bottom of the fireplace without drilling new holes to allow screws to be put in to hold the bottom of the fireplace.
