First of all, the overall presentation is great; once you slot it in the wall, it looks good; and you will forgive the fact that it is very light and at times feels like you could bend the back plates just by pushing in a bit. The flame effect is great, and overall it is pleasant to look at, although it has issues. The first problem is related to the heat output: it takes a while to heat up a moderate size room; and of course you can't compare it much to the output of a real fireplace; so if you plan to use this fireplace as heat source for a large room, keep in mind that it will work as long as you are close to the opening, and the opening is located on the top front part of the unit. The second issue is the remote; or better, the fact that there are no controls on the actual device. If you break or lose the remote, you can't operate the device. Ironically my TV remote turn it on and off when I press the option/settings button for my tv; so I assume you can find a replacement for the remote; but it is a concern. I was expecting to find at least a couple of buttons on the unit, to be able to turn it on and off, turn the light on and off and turn the heat on and off, but there are none. So beware that there is no easy way to control this fireplace without the remote. ... show more

I have always had a fireplace or woodstove. I don't have one in my current house and am 70 yrs old. I realized I can't live without one! I got this one and love it! It keeps me warm, I can stand in front of it to warm my behind like I would a real fireplace. ; ) The flames are a bit 2 dimensional until you step away and they become more authentic looking. I installed it myself into a corner cabinet, needing just a bit of metal mesh on either side to hide the 2" spaces where it didn't fill out the distance. Just having the flames on without the heater is very comforting, oddly. I feared it would be tacky, but tech has come a long way. I also bought the crackle box, which was a waste of money. This is the most realistic looking electric fireplace insert I've seen. There is a 5 second or so repeat on the flames, but the overall effect is that there is a real fire going. It fit perfectly (with a couple of pavers underneath) into the firebox of a condo fireplace that would have needed extensive work to use safely. It cost more than most others, but we think it is well worth the difference. We are very pleased and would recommend it to anyone who asked. It hasn't seen enough use to comment on reliability, but I will revisit this if it becomes an issue. I am adding this after 6 months or so--We wanted to have the sounds of a fire to go with the fake display. I know that it sounds silly, but it does make a big difference. You probably have an unused cd player somewhere and there are pretty good recordings to be had. ... show more

I like the fireplace, but I think there are better ones for the same price. Maybe even less. One review stated you can hear a clicking noise caused from the "fire" lights wheel the create the flame movement. This is true. It isn't overly annoying, so I haven't tried to fix the issue. But it is noticeable. The heat has only an ON and an OFF function. The highest heat setting is 78 degrees Fahrenheit. It heats up our space fine. Our space is approx 20' x 20'. I like the look of the fireplace, but I think if I could afford a more techy featured one I would. This one is pretty basic for the cost. ... show more

This was a replacement for another insert (different company) that stopped working. It is very nice and works great, but the flames could easily be better. If it was all orange flames (which look pretty realistic) that would have been great. But the unnecessary red flames look really fake, and were unnecessary. Also, and I'm sure this is necessary, there are images of cut out looking flames in the background. I wish those images could be toned down. ... show more
