  • Fantastic Product, I would but it again if I had need for a second loft
I’m going to try to include a very thorough review. I purchased this in early February and I’ve now been sleeping on it for over a month. It arrived earlier than the earliest expected shipping date, which was wonderful. It came in a box around 7 feet long and over a foot wide by less than a foot deep. Quite heavy and because of how long it is, I don’t recommend trying to slug it inside alone. I’m fairly fit but I’m also 5’4” so trying to manhandle a box this size alone would not have been great. Once opened, the contents are all labelled very clearly. The instruction book is clear enough to get the loft assembled, although one issue I encountered is that in the earlier parts of the instructions, some parts are depicted in the pictures that don’t get attached until later steps. I would say glance through the whole book first to have a sense of what goes on when. I had my father helping me assemble this, and after glancing through, we could mostly operate without it. It served to reference which screws we used at which times. The hardware pack comes separated and labelled, however do not peel the whole backing off. The parts are labelled on the front side of the backing so if it is torn off in pieces, you won’t be able to tell which pieces are what. The instruction pictures don’t 100% clearly depict the screw lengths beyond what letter they are labelled as and a couple of the sizes are very similar. Having a second person was the easiest way to assemble this. If I had been one person, it would have been a great deal tougher. Even just having a second person who can hold the structure up so it can be assembled upright made this far easier than any alternative. Getting into the actual building, it took my father and I a bit over 2 hours, we used power tools and not the hand tools the hardware comes with. Regardless of whether or not you have power tools, do not tighten things up until the end of assembly. There were a couple times my father and I had to go back and loosen something a bit so we could get the holes of another area to line up. All the pieces are made to fit exactly, so when one area receives tension before another, it alters the shape just enough to throw off alignment. This is normal for tubular metal. It does not mean there is a defect. We built this in a 10x10 bedroom with some furniture all pushed to one side giving us a 7x10 workspace or so. It was a bit to maneuver sometimes, I would say this is the smallest floor space one can build this in. Any smaller and we might not have been able to move ourselves and the pieces as needed. Now that is is together, its wonderful. It does wobble, but tubular metal naturally has give to it. Its not a scary amount of shaking so long as one doesn’t try to move too fast. I’ve been on it over a month now and its quite comfortable. The bar supports are nice but I do have a thin plywood sheet on top to go directly under my bed. I have a memory foam mattress and didn’t want to risk the bars creating strange indents. For a regular spring mattress, they’re probably just fine. The rungs do hurt my feet a small bit but not enough to warrant needing to cover them, and my boyfriend feels the same way. I weigh something like 150 pounds and my boyfriend weighs something like 170 and we can both comfortably sleep on this bed. It doesn’t feel like it will collapse under us, nor does it shake too much. My apartment is less than 250 square feet and this loft has helped dramatically with increasing space. I keep my hope chest, dresser, and clothes divider hamper underneath it. I do have to duck under it and I’m 5’4”, its around 5’ clearance. I could see having a desk or chair underneath this and working out well, which was my original plan. All in all, for $200, this is an excellent purchase. I may attach some pictures at some point. ... show more

  • Precise Instructions
I got the loft bed, size full. Four stars only because I haven't used it, so I can't judge. Five stars for the design and the assembly instructions. It came in one big carton as described. The carton had two corners accordion crushed and a 4-inch triangular puncture in the middle. It's a long trip from China. By luck and protective packaging inside, nothing was damaged. About assembly. On day one I spent 90 minutes de-packaging and checking contents. Nothing was missing, and the fastenings included a small bag of extras just in case. Day two was 5 hours, single-handed at my elderly leisure, to do the whole assembly. I used stacked plastic boxes to hold up the far ends of long parts. Some observations: Each part has a sticker with its letter. Be careful that the real parts in front of you match exactly the parts in the drawings -- and that you have them in the position or orientation relative to the other parts as shown in the drawings. Nearly every part is unique. Study the locations of the pre-drilled threaded bolt holes shown in the drawings and locate and count the holes on the real part. In one drawing a hand points at the single small hole on one part, to be sure you don't miss it. Do a complete loose-bolts first assembly, and only afterward go around tightening. This is so important that the instructions say Please. Turn bolts only with fingers, and no more than halfway in. The whole structure has to stay floppy and loose-jointed so you can move the parts a little to line them up for the bolts to "find" the threads in the holes. All my threads and bolts were perfectly made. Even so, at the last step, the ladder, I had to back off some prior bolts to move the parts enough for the rungs to line up with the holes they go in. Regarding the slats. As someone has mentioned, don't push them to one end, hold them midway between ends and they will rotate down into their slots. The plastic collars snap easily onto the slats. The plastic spacers with jaws on each end that snap onto to the collars are too robust for elderly hands. I used channel-lock pliers. The spacers are just robust enough to be partly crushed onto the collar and then popped into place with a soft fist bump. How the bed would work in use, I don't know. I bought it to serve as a garage for the twin size air bed I will use in the lower space. The loft bed will support soundproofing materials around me and over my head. I can say that having had time to appreciate the design engineers' work, I enjoy the neat way they put things together and made it all so assembler-friendly. In my opinion it's also very visually attractive. Well done! ... show more
