I purchased this knife with the primary need of slicing and cutting tomatoes. My preference is a small, thin-bladed knife. Something that will allow very good control of slicing and cutting. This knife fits that bill nicely. I have included the picture of it next to a $ bill for size comparison. It is well balanced and very sharp. The handle is a hard rubber, soft enough to press your fingernail into and it grips to your skin for non-slip cutting better than a wood handled knife. It also makes washing it very easy. It is labeled Make in the USA, which is a plus. The blade itself is thin, not quite 2mm thick, which in my opinion allows easier cutting of large items. You can easily slice a tomato into 1/8" slices should one desire. It has been a joy to use on broccoli, potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and many other vegetables. I ordered this knife for use in my garden and yard. Works great for quick weeding, aerating and plant dividing. I ordered 2 and they work perfect for my needs. I make fresh salsa several times per week, and I wanted to reduce the amount of time I spend in the kitchen. Specifically ,I wanted to reduce the time I spend slicing tomatoes and re-sharpening my chef's knife, which is a fine knife. So, I did a trial of tomato slicers, including the Rada, the Mercer tomato/utlity knife, and the Dexter Russell tomato slicer. The Rada has a tiny handle, and the serrated blade began losing its edge after a few uses. The Mercer blade was far too short--4 inches, and it didn't cut the tomatoes as well as either the Rada or the Dexter. I've already made a lot of salsa with the Dexter Russell, and there is no looking back. This knife makes salsa preparation very easy and far faster than with the other knives or even my chef's knife. And, yes! It reduces the need to re-sharpen my chef's knife. Well worth the money and you gain back some time! ... show more
