i wish it was black but the black one was like $30 more at the time i made this purchase. if you have the light output *facing* you, it's incredibly too intense but we stick it in the corner facing the wall(s) and it works very well for what we need. it's so lightweight that we're able to keep it on the back corner of our sectional couch and you barely notice it unless you know it's there. the on/off/dimming button is a little weird until you get used to it, and trying to explain it to your house/pet-sitters when you're going out of town isn't the most fun, but i really love this light and want about 8 more. ... show more

I didn’t want a harsh light. I even sleep with it on sometimes because it’s soothing. Great for the bedroom. I wanted something bigger than a lamp but smaller than a light fixture. This is perfect. Although I don’t have white walls in my bedroom. I would think it would be brighter with white walls.
