Description

The 5 in. variable-speed random orbit sander comes with a hook-and-loop pad to make changing sanding sheets simple. This random orbit sander has a powerful 3-amp motor that delivers between 8,000 and 12,000 OPM. The separate counterweight reduces vibration while the rubber overmold grip provides comfortable sanding. A low-profile design allows users to get closer to the worksurface and the one-handed locking dust bag attaches securely to the sander to aid in dust collection, or the user can attach the sander directly to the DWV010 or DWV012 dust collectors.

This sander is AMAZING! I have never used an orbital sander, maybe they are all great. Pros - I sanded for over 4 hours, and barely felt it in my hand / wrist. The sanding pads Velcro so very easy to replace. The suction is very good, which easily keeps the sawdust out from between your sanding pad and work piece. This not only speeds up the sanding a lot, but it makes your sanding pads last a lot longer as they are not being gummed up with sawdust. The grip is soft rubber, and fits (my) hand very well making it comfortable to use for long periods. The dust exhaust appears to be designed to fit a variety of shop vacs (just not mine, which is I guess extra large) Cons - The dust bag it comes with is kinda pathetic. The first one I got exploded on installation. The 3 ball bearings flew off across the room. I was being pretty gentle with it, so not sure what happened there. I ordered a replacement and the new attaches just fine. The major con is the bag itself. The dust quickly coats the inside of the bag then the airflow stops. The vacuum can't suck any more and the dust stays on the work piece. Since my vacuum wouldn't fit, I just took my project outside onto some sawhorses, removed the dust bag, and let the dust blow away into the wind. Still don't count on the dust bag being an effective solution for more than very brief sanding jobs. Solution - well for me at least. I have a 3d printer so I will print out an adapter that will not only latch onto the sander just like the bag does, but also fit my vacuum. ... show more

I simply can’t bring myself to drop $500+ on a sander. The DeWalt random orbital sander is a great quality alternative. Sanders wear out and at less than $100, the DeWalt’s 5” sander is good enough for the kind and frequency of sanding I do for my woodworking hobby. The sander does tend to want to chatter and wander around the material at lower speeds, but if you increase the speed and keep it flat on the material -WITHOUT PRESSING DOWN TOO HARD - it works just fine. Dust collection with a hose and extractor works well, but more than anything else, using the highest quality sandpaper is essential for an optimal outcome. It might take a little longer than the more expensive options, but I can buy 5 DeWalts for the price of one the “fancier” models, or use the saved money to buy more tools! ... show more

I used it to sand a part of wood floor, with more than 6 hours of sanding per day for 6 days. I think it really held up and did the job well. Pros: - Powerful and reliable. - Variable speed, which comes handy based on the condition of the surface - Great dust suction/collection when connected to a shop vac (I didn’t use the dust bag that comes with it). - Easy to handle and control Things to consider (not necessarily cons, but things I wished I knew earlier): - It doesn’t include a connector to connect a DeWALT shop vac (I used a DXV08), and neither does the shop vac! I had to separately buy a connector to hook it up with my shop vac. This is why 4-star, not 5. - It vibrates a bit heavily, leaving my hands swell and soar for days after this prolonged period of usage. - The on/off switch is a bit hard to accurately pinpoint, due to the dust protection cover. It takes some time to understand where the “pressing point” should be. But definitely, the dust cover is good for protecting the switch. This is by far the best sander I have ever used. It is light, fast and durable. I hope it works for a long, long time because I don’t want to use any other product. Easy to replace the sandpaper and small enough to take with you anywhere.

Great sander, haven't used it yet, but 100% will. I have a lot of DeWalt products and will continue to buy them and I finally am adding an orbital to go with my 1/4 sheet. I marked at a 4 because DeWalt getting cheap. I did not notice it in the description but being a many DeWalt tool purchaser I assumed it would come with a carry bag.......NOPE!! The sander is easy to operate, especially one hand. The sanding discs are quickly placed and replaced. The randomness of the sander gives excellent results. The dust collector dramatically lessens errant dust particles when used indoors.
