Description

The 5-inch Variable-Speed Random Orbital Sander comes with a hook-and-loop pad to make changing sanding sheets simple. This random orbit sander has a powerful 3-amp motor that delivers between 8,000 and 12,000 OPM. The separate counterweight reduces vibration while the rubber overmold grip provides comfortable sanding. A low-profile design allows users to get closer to the worksurface and the one-handed locking dust bag attaches securely to the power sander to aid in dust collection, or the user can attach the sander directly to the DWV010 or DWV012 dust collectors.

I have maybe 3 palm sanders from different companies and they work fine but I needed a new one for a recently purchased home which we fly to, so rather then trying to pack tools that I need I will replace with new ones. I purchased this DeWalt palm sander and was really amazes how much better and easier it was to work with than my others. The quality is just like people say , it holds the paper tight, is an ease to control and the dust bag does very well capturing the dust. I would recommend this sander to others. ... show more

I used it to sand a part of wood floor, with more than 6 hours of sanding per day for 6 days. I think it really held up and did the job well. Pros: - Powerful and reliable. - Variable speed, which comes handy based on the condition of the surface - Great dust suction/collection when connected to a shop vac (I didn’t use the dust bag that comes with it). - Easy to handle and control Things to consider (not necessarily cons, but things I wished I knew earlier): - It doesn’t include a connector to connect a DeWALT shop vac (I used a DXV08), and neither does the shop vac! I had to separately buy a connector to hook it up with my shop vac. This is why 4-star, not 5. - It vibrates a bit heavily, leaving my hands swell and soar for days after this prolonged period of usage. - The on/off switch is a bit hard to accurately pinpoint, due to the dust protection cover. It takes some time to understand where the “pressing point” should be. But definitely, the dust cover is good for protecting the switch. I bought this sander while I was waiting for parts to fix an old Makita sander, so far I've used it on four projects using American Mahogany, Wenge, and Padauk. I saw two common complaints when I looked at the reviews before buying:. sanding disks not sticking and dust collection. I'd like to address both: I quit buying sanding disks at the big box stores many, many years ago. They are consumer grade, overpriced, and mostly junk, I only use Indasa Rhynogrip and they stick multiple times because I switch grits and reuse the old ones as long as they do the job, which is usually a long time. I can easily go through 5-6 grits on one project. It's not the sander's fault if you buy junk sanding disks. The little dust collection bag works fine, you just have to empty is once in a while and use it outside. In my shop, I hook all of my sanders to a dust collector because I'd like for my lungs to keep functioning. Working mainly with exotic woods has it's hazards, but all wood dust is bad for you, Get a P-100 respirator if you don't have decent dust collection. The little dust bag on the sander is for your convenience not your safety. Work with a wood like Padauk and you'll see how useful the bags are on any sander (except for the very expensive units with HEPA filters. They won't sand any better though. This is a decent RO sander, it was a good price, and being DeWalt, I know I can get parts for it when I break it or wear it out. ... show more

Was pleased with the speed and results when using the sander. The shape made it difficult to access angled areas. However, it was a good purchase along with a pack of varied sand paper. Easy to put in and remove too.
