  • Small, powerful, stupid easy to convert to 240v
Ok, so before I get into this... If you’re looking at this compressor, you should probably buy it. It’s probably one of the highest SCFM units before you get into the 60/80 gallon stationery units. Ok, so first... this compressor can be swapped to 240v. Literally unscrew the panel on the motor with a 1/4” nut driver. There are schematics in the label, but basically you pop off the brown wire and the white wire and relocate them to different connections. You’ll need a pair of needle nose pliers but literally the process should take 2 minutes. Note that the white wire you’re moving is not the neutral (soon to be load line), it’s the white wire with the 90 degree plastic insulator. Once you so that, you need to chop off the 110 plug off and replace it with a 6-20P into a 6-20R. Personally I might replace my plug/receptacle with a twist lock version L6-20P & L6-20R. Note that the power plug on the compressor is heavy duty and at 240v it’s half the amps, so it works great. This is a twin cylinder oil compressor and the break in process is running the motor for 30 minutes with the drain valve open. Basically you want to run the motor without any pressure building. Me personally, after that break in period, I drained the oil and put in some brand new Royal Purple Synfilm compressor oil. There was significant grit/metal particles in the oil, so I’d highly recommend the oil change. After that, I ran the compressor to pressure and it kicked off a touch over 200psi. Checked for leaks with some leak detection solution (soapy water works too), not a single leak... tank held pressure for 3 hours and not a single PSI drop. I will say coming from a little 6-gallon pancake to this compressor, it’s MUCH quieter. Purely subjective and I didn’t check with a decibel meter, but the wife always complained about the 6 gallon compressor running in garage while she was in the house, but this one she couldn’t even hear while it was running. Overall time will tell if it holds up, but I have no reason to believe it won’t. Top notch product, it’s fairly small, portable enough (think rolling out on the driveway to fill tires, definitely not rolling it upstairs to trim work) and based on my experience, I’d highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Best 120v compressor money can buy!!
Sort of loud, but more of a low rumble/thumping Vs the Obnoxious oil-less compressor sound that made me want to run out of the garage. It is definitely quiter than my old 17 gal husky hotdog. And the recovery time is super fast, and is not constantly recovering/running like every other compressor due to the 200 psi max then it kicks on at 150~ Originally purchased from home depot on Black Friday, waited a month , got a call that it came in shipped on the side, oil all over the electric motor. Waited Another month, got a call again same rediculous story. Waited Another Month and a weeke or so , no call. Called them and they just kept making excuses. Eventually got my money back but lost the B.F. sale price. Ordered from amazon, lost out on the $125 but it came shipped to my door, the guys pulled around behind my house to the garage unloaded it and it was in Perfect Shape. Same cost as lowes, but got my 5% back with amazon card, so it was actually cheaper and way less hassle + it was here in less than 2 weeks. Also convertable to 240v so thats great too ... show more

  • Risky Business
Just received this unit today. Quickly noticed a broken flywheel guard bracket. Plugged it in, turned it on, the flywheel came off but was contained by the flywheel guard. Appears the flywheel bolt was never torqued. Will be contacting Dewalt tomorrow. Update: I took the flywheel off to find the center bore completely broken. The box arrived without damage. This is disappointing to say the least, especially after waiting a month to receive this. ... show more

  • Won't Keep Up With My Die Grinder
This compressor is rated 1.5 times the SCFM of my die grinder, but within 2 minutes the air pressure went from 200 to 45 psi, which is not enough pressure to properly use my grinder. Very disappointed! Also, I was under the impression that this is a 2 stage compressor, but the description deceptively states "2 stage performance". It doesn't perform like a 2 stage compressor. This would be okay for a nail gun or upholstery staple gun, but NOT for painting, grinders, etc, where a large volume of air is needed. On the plus side, the compressor ran well, did not have any air leaks and was easy to convert to 220 volts. Unfortunately, converting to 220 did not improve the performance at all. ... show more
