  • So much better than fighting my old 2 stroke.
Style: String Trimmer
Very impressed with this weed eater. I haven't been too excited to jump into the realm of electric yard tools but I was sick and tired of fighting an old two stroke engine. I've always had a good experience with Dewalt and this was no exception. Plenty of power and cuts great. The battery lasts longer than I do. I would last a little longer if it had a shoulder strap but the weight is managable. It's also compatible with the pole trimmer attachment which will be one of my next purchases. ... show more

  • As Strong As A Gas Trimmer
Style: String Trimmer
First of all I have been using gas trimmers for a long time. I’ve also spent plenty of money fixing and maintaining them. Just wish something like this would have been in the picture sooner. My last gas trimmer was leaking fuel all over my driveway and gave me the worst time starting. So this purchase was prompted by my frustration! Now for the great part once assembled ( the instructions leave a lot to be desired) and charged up this trimmer worked great on a test area. Finally yesterday I ran it all around my house. At first in low gear and it made trimming my grass as simple and easy as my gas trimmer. Then I added some of my old attachments (edger, hedge clippers) on high gear and it did the job better than my old gas trimmer. Yes, you can use other attachments on this model which was what I wanted to do. Never expecting my older craftsman attachments to work. This item was highly rated and I can see why it is strong and capable. Looks very sturdy and has a solid feel. The battery is a bit heavy and may take some time to get used to but no heavier than a gas trimmer. The battery life was exceptional also, ran it for a solid two hours with minimal battery burn. I am so glad that I made purchase and went green! Don’t think twice spend your money once on a solid item once. ... show more

  • Great product
Style: String Trimmer
My husband loves it. He is so happy he doesn't have to buy a new one every year because gas-powered ones suck! No need to pull start. I can even use it. Very stable and durable. Comfortable to use.

  • Finally needed a new weed whacker so I bought this one...
Style: String Trimmer
So here in the great state of CA, where gas weed whackers are bad (I hear this in Mr. Mackey's voice) and unbuyable. My gas powered Troybilt after 10yrs. had a good run but it's tired. Being a Dewalt tool guy, I did my research and thought I'll give this weed whacker a shot. With a 9ah 60v/20v battery it lasts long enough to do both front and backyards edging and removing anything in the cement cracks arounds the house, along the sidewalk and the street gutters. Has plenty of power (has 2 speeds), though I seem to prefer "high speed" for edging the grass and "low speed" for weed clean up in cement cracks and such. It takes a second to ramp up to full speed but it doesnt struggle when it's going. It takes .080 line but if you cheat at your own risk, you could put in .095 and that seems to be a lot more durable especially when its doing work on cement. And I now have used it for approximately 3 months and I can say for sure it a great tool, not perfect and defintely pricy. But there is one thing I did read and thought "oh that happens only to other people not me", well I'm one of those other people now. The trimmer head is STRAIGHT garbage. 3 months and now whatever soft cheap plastic they make the trimmer head out of it has worn out enough to not hold and bump the line out accordingly. The line just flies out now and wraps itself around the trimmer head and gets all knotted up. I did some internet searching and found a video channel called Chickanic on the "tubes" where she explains how to replace the trimmer head on any weed whacker. Looked pretty straight forward, so I bought one. If this works out I will have this Dewalt weed whacker sorted out properly. Though for the amount of money spent, shame on Dewalt for the trimmer head being a lame duck. That is why I'm giving this a 4 star review, debating on a 3 star. Not because of price or missing any particular feature but that crappy trimmer head that came with it. Like everyone else, I absolutely hate messing with the trimmer line, but I especially hate messing with the trimmer head that shouldn't be a problem so soon after buying it. ... show more

  • No mess
Style: String Trimmer
Plenty of power for an average yard. Tired of gas heads going bad after three of four years.

  • Poor battery performance but great everywhere else
Style: String Trimmer
Always a good choice. My only negative is the battery performance. After fully charging it was done in less the 300ft of fence edging. No big weeds just grass along the bottom of a fence. The machine went together and operated perfectly...but you'd better have at least two batteries.

  • What an upgrade from my Craftsman corded string trimmer.
Style: String Trimmer
I have needed a good string trimmer for a long time. It's just one of those things I hate to spend money on since I don't use it all that often. Before purchasing the Dewalt string trimmer, I had a corded Craftsman string trimer that was a real pain to use. When I got the Craftsman, we lived on 1/4 acre lot and didn't have much to trim, but now we are on 2.2 acres and I have a lot more to trim. I had been going back and forth between a gas powered and a cordless trimmer. When I saw ProjectFarm's test of higher end cordless string trimmers, I was sold on the Dewalt. It's more money than I wanted to spend on a String Trimmer, but the ability to use additional attachments sold me and not have to deal gas and smelly exhaust is a bug bonus. Assembly was simple. It only took a couple minutes to attach the handle and the guard. The trimmer is heavy with the battery attached, but it is very well balanced. Using the Dewalt is a pleasure. I dreaded using my Craftsman. The string would constantly break when it came into contact with anything thicker than a blade of grass. Getting the string pulled out was a real pain. The Dewalt has yet to break a string and I have hit all kinds of stuff with it: siding, corner of the concrete foundation, copper grounding rod, saplings and other thick weeds. Pulling more string is effortless. The string usually advances with one tap, but sometimes it does require a second tap. Most of the time, I use the string trimmer on low. When I encounter thicker weeds or saplings, I usually switch to high. I've used the trimmer a good bit and the battery charge indicator just recently stopped showing fully charged since my initial charge. The battery only showed one light when I first got the string trimmer and it charged pretty quickly considering its size. I was afraid I might need a second battery (have you priced those suckers?), but fortunately, the one battery will be just fine. Plus, I can use it on my 20V Max Dewalt cordless tools, a very nice bonus. I would highly recommend this trimmer. ... show more

  • Junk- head throws string out!
Style: String Trimmer
JUNK!!! I waited to long to use it so I can’t return it. The head throws string out like crazy. The string wraps around the head and melts. This happens on the low setting too. Ordered replacement head from RK. It did the same thing!! My husband even changed the string out and it still did it! DO NOT BUY THIS!! ... show more
