  • Good solid tool but instructions for assemby aren't the best
DEWALT 6 Inch Bench Grinder, 3,450 RPM (DW756) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000224J3?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title This is a good solid tool once it's assembled and meets my expectation for Dewalt© tools. The main issues are with the assembly. To get it working, you need to mount the tool to a bench, assemble and mount the tool rest assemblies, attach the spark guards, and finally the eye guards. 1) Mounting the base to the bench. As another reviewer (Michael Y) pointed out, the template on the back page of the user manual for drilling the holes for the bolts to hold the grinder base to the bench does not match the base of the tool, either the distance between the holes (off by about 1/4-1/2") or the outline of the base. The manual covers the 8" Model 758 as well so that might be why they don't match. Fortunately, his review prompted me to drill one hole, then use the actual tool base to locate the other hole. Because the outline doesn't match, the base ended up a little off of what I had planned, but it still placed the edge of the base within about 1" of the bench edge, which places the outermost wheel (right in my case) in the free area next to the bench. Also as mentioned in that review, you need to provide your own bolts, even though the manual makes it sound like they are included in the provided hardware, using the same language as for the bolts that are included ("Insert M8 hex head bolts ..."). I used a 3/8" drill for the holes and a couple of 3" x 7/16" carriage bolts from my junk drawer to fasten the bench (1" thick) to the two holes of the base. I think carriage bolts are better than hex head bolts because the head sinks into the wood on the underside of the bench. OTOH the advice to not overtighten the bolts, so the rubber feet can absorb vibration, is spot on and might be something a newbie wouldn't think of. 2) Installing the tool rests. The manual diagram (Fig 2) and the written instructions seem to have been created by two separate dyslexic individuals, as they don't match right-to-left. I ended up just fiddling with them until they lined up and came out OK. 3) Installing the spark guards went smoothly enough, although they don't line up perfectly with the shroud. 4) Installing the eye shields is probably the easiest (screw the holders to the shrould, then finger tigthen the butterfly nuts, but again, it's trial and error to get the everything right, as the diagram (manual Fig 3) doesn't clearly explain that the plastic guards themselves, while identical (no problem right-to-left), are not symmetrical front-to-back (or top-bottom), so there's a right (best) way to orient them. Once assembled, the tool worked like a charm. It's relatively quiet and vibration free. I've only used it on one job so far, but I have no complaints about the performance. I purchased a Dewalt wire wheel as well ("DeWalt Accessories DW4904 6" Crimp Wire Whl Brush" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004YMDI?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title) but have not installed it yet. Just eyeballing it, I'm not sure the wire wheel will fit within the shroud and I may have to remove it. We'll see.😎 Hope the attached photos may help others get their tool installed without too much hassle. ... show more

  • Very Nice!
Very nice. I really didn't want to buy a bench grinder at my stage in life, but I needed it-- and I didn't want to fool around with some Horror Freight issue. This thing very quietly spun up and did the job. Made in Taiwan, and that works just fine.

  • Might not be the best, but it’s great
I’m sure there are better and newer grinders, but considering they’ve been selling this same model since 1997 it’s definitely not a bad grinder. The cast iron is great and assembling it was pretty easy. It does have a bit of a harsh vibration, but it’s more than manageable by bolting it down securely and it’s not so large that it’s unmanageable. It does what I need it to and I like supporting Dewalt rather than some company I’ve never heard of. ... show more

  • Excellent Grinder
So far, this has been working out great. It takes a little time to set up, but then just works... Starts up reasonably quickly, isn't too loud, is easy to reach the power button, and has enough power for simple grinding that I've been doing. The spark arrester doesn't really work, as the sparks travel all the way around and shoot right back down onto your hand, but I don't know if other grinders have solved this when grinding steel, either. ... show more
