With Bluetooth integrated within this cordless power drill, you do not need a Tool Connect battery to utilize tracking functionality. The Tool Connect 3-part inventory management solution includes the app and Inventory Manager web portal that work together to help you better communicate updates from the field to the office. This is real simple folks. If you don't care about having blue tooth on your drill, don't buy this. If you absolutely require hammer drill functionality, don't buy this. But if you want a basic workhorse drill that will last forever and you have people around you with sticky fingers then this is the drill of your dreams (I didn't say 'drilling of your dreams' that's something else entirely). I don't usually do reviews this short, so I'll chew up some vertical space by explaining how it is that Bluetooth prevents the theft of your tools. It does this because the Tool Connect app has a nondescript little checkbox in the device properties menu that disables the drill if it is not able to establish a Bluetooth connection to your phone. So that makes this a drill that only works when it is within about 30 feet of your phone. Now if they also steal your phone... Then you're at the mercy of the FindMyPhoneAndDrill app which you can't run because now you don't have a phone! You didn't think that one through, did you? ... show more

Best all around drill! Compact compared to the heavier and larger DCD990. Simple upgrades to the DCD790 drill like 4 choices on LED brightness(including off if you donโ€™t want that light source)and tool connect. The overall length of this drill is shorter about an inch which is nice even though it it a half inch taller. This is the new main drill for me. ... show more

I used this drill to run ethernet and speaker cable in my home while it was under construction. It didn't have a problem drilling 1 1/2 in holes using a paddle bit through multiple 2x4 studs. This thing has plenty of power. Just wish I bought bigger batteries so they would last longer.

You would be better off flushing 140$ down the drain, It stopped working a couple days after the return period. It acts like its disabled, but the dewalt connect app says its enabled and it won't communicate with the drill any more.
