  • How to fix the drill bit falling out!
Style: Drill/Driver Kit Only
How to fix the drill bit falling out! I put a drill bit into my new Dewalt drill, tighten the chuck, pressed the trigger a few times … and the bit fell out! I repeated this process a couple of times with the same result. I was very disappointed because my brand new drill was unusable. I considered returning the drill to Amazon. Then I recalled a post, which described a method to tighten the drill bit. I did not understand the description, but there was hope. After trying a few different approaches, I now realize there is a way to tighten the bit and have it stay in place! Step 1: Place the bit into the chuck and turn the chuck counter clockwise. Turn the chuck until you hear a loud “click”. Keep going! After the click sound, continue to turn the chuck counter clockwise. You will hear some softer clicking sounds. Stop when the bit is snug in the chuck. (Going past the initial loud “click” sound is the first key to making this work). If you stop turning right when you hear the first loud “click”, the bit will not tighten in the chuck. Step 2: Turn the chuck clockwise until you hear (or feel) a softer “click” sound. This will feel like something slipping into place. You will only need to turn the chuck about an eighth of a turn until hearing this softer clicking sound. (This is the second key to making the bit stay in the drill). Step 3: Once again, turn the chuck clockwise until you hear a loud “click” sound. Stop turning once you hear this clicking sound. You do not need to tight the chuck past hearing the sound. (This is the third and final key to making the bit stay in the drill). Step 4: Pull the trigger on the drill to check that the bit stays in place. Most of the time, the bit will be firmly set in the chuck and you are ready to use your drill. Note: On occasion, after doing all these steps, the drill bit still is loose. I have no idea why this happens. Repeat the steps above and the bit will stay in place. This is the strangest method I have ever used to install a bit in a drill, but it does work. Now I can use my brand new Dewalt drill!! I hope this information helps someone else. ... show more

  • Works great, dad loved it for father's day but it came with a dead battery and I found a solution.
Style: Drill/Driver Kit Only
From my background in computer science and electrical engineering I figured that the battery's voltage from being packaged for so long dropped to the point where the charger could no longer detect it, so I attempted to jump start it using the other charged battery. all you need it a couple wires (speaker cables work perfectly). In each battery's connection port look closely and you will see a B+ on the far left and B- on the far right (positive and negative charges). Now we will jump start it as it were a car. Chose which is your positive and negative cable and connect in this order: Dead B+ to Charged B+ then Dead B- to Charged B- In this last connection B- to B- you should see a small spark, that is normal. let it sit there for about 15 seconds and disconnect the cables in the opposite order. if you check the battery life, one greed led should light up, get it to the charger and it should work like a charm. If you wait too long to charge it or press the LED for too long it may lose the charge again so just repeat the steps above and you should be solid. ... show more

  • Perfect, but disclaimer:
Style: Drill/Driver Kit Only
This drill is top quality in construction, performance, and battery usage. It feels so comfortable in the hand and extremely sturdy. I'm 100% satisfied with this purchase BUT I have a major disclaimer: when you buy this kit, one of the two batteries is already plugged into the drill in order to fit efficiently in the case. As other reviews have also mentioned, this can result in over-discharge of the battery by the time it is delivered and when I received my package, one of the two batteries was toast and wouldn't accept a charge. Dewalt and Amazon both assisted me in IMMEDIATELY sending out a replacement which was great, but they certainly are making a mistake storing the battery in the drill for long periods of time. I have absolutely nothing to complain about with the drill, it's perfect, but the design of the case is bringing them issues as it requires one of the two batteries to remain connected in the drill. ... show more

  • Great tool... if the batteries worked.
Style: Drill/Driver Kit Only
The first one of these I ordered had one battery completely dead—would not charge no matter what. It was the battery attached to the drill. The other charged fine. I did a return and replacement which came with the exact same problem. Attached battery is dead, the other fine.

  • carry case
Style: Drill/Driver Kit Only
its a nice drill for sure. small light and powerful. i would have given it 5 stars all the way across if it wasnt for the carry case. the guy who designed it must have been on drugs and i say this because i dont think Houdini could have gotten the batteries drill and charger in the case and been able to properly close the case tight. i took a utility knife and trimmed the plastic supports out and now it closes fairly well. ... show more

  • Battery issues
Style: Drill/Driver Kit Only
1 battery didn’t even make it a year. The other died a year and a half later. Probably used the drill 3-4 times total.

  • Plagued by dead battery
Style: Drill/Driver Kit Only
I had to order this drill twice. The first time I ordered it one of the batteries was completely dead and the charger would not charge it. I sent it back and Amazon sent a second drill. Same exact problem: one dead battery that wouldn't charge. Luckily, I followed the advice of another person who bought this drill and used one battery (the one that was working) to jumpstart the second battery. It worked! Hopefully, De Walt will do something about this. Other than this problem, the drill works great and is nice and light and powerful. ... show more
