    • Great light at a great price but mounting it is a little weird

This is a very nice, good quality light for the price. It can be mounted pointed up or down if you have space limitations. Mounting it is a little weird however as the screw holes in the housing are not at the standard spacing for a lighting junction box. So they include a metal strip to adapt their spacing and the junction box's spacing. Now that would be fine except they don't include screws with decorative heads. Instead they give you these little threaded "nubs" to thread onto the end of the screw. Now if you're mechanically inclined, you've already put together why that's a problem. Because that means the screws have to poke through from the backside of the housing. Sooooo you'd better have a super skinny set of needlenose pliers to guide those screw shafts through the holes from the back. Or alternatively you could do what I did which was to thread 2 little nuts down the screws to hold them straight and perpendicular off the mounting strip (instead of just flopping around) making it infinitely easier to guide them through the holes in the light's housing. ... show more

These were super-easy to install. I liked the fact that the inner mounting bracket rotates to fit any box orientation. The units were very well protected in packaging and were secure when I opened them. The finish is well done, all the parts were there. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the socket assembly is not extended far enough away from the wall so they can be mounted such that the glass globe edge doesn't touch the wall. That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. A minor design flaw that could be remedied by even a quarter-inch longer socket placement. Overall, I recommend them. ... show more

I took down some old brass candle shaped sconces along with the old wood paneling on a house I bought a few years ago. I wanted a more modern look and it was all DYI. The ones I took down had switches on them and were not wired to a wall switch. After painting I replaced the switch plates in the room with brushed nickel plates and wanted silver sconces to match. I soon found, after a month of web surfing and going to lighting showrooms that wasn't going to b easy. 99% of all sconces offered did not have a built in switch. I was about to put the old ones back up because I had no other option when I saw these. I was willing to pay over a hundred dollars each and a lot of sconces are well over that. I couldn't believe how inexpensive these were and that they were silver and had there own switches. I bought them and just hoped they would look good enough. When I got them I was thrilled to see the picture on Amazon didn't do them justice. They look great on the wall and were very easy to install. Being an older house I have plaster (not drywall / gypsum board) walls. So I purchased some plaster mollys for the screws ( a couple bucks at HD) and installed them first. The bracket is completely adjustable so you can mount it to the wall and then adjust it as needed. The finish is clean and has a nice luster. The glass on the diffuser is heavy too. I was afraid it would be real thin. The only thing I don't like aesthetically is the screws that hold the glass diffuser on stick out a little too far. I would have liked to see them screw in more so that they didn't stick out as much. My only other complaint is the spherical shaped nuts (that's what mine came with. They look like ball bearings with a threaded hole on one side) that screw onto the the bolts that hold the light to the bracket may look nice but don't seem very durable. Since they're not something that will be removed once the light is up I don't think that will be an issue. I was also concerned about brightness. These are rated to use a 60 watt bulb. I put 40 watt bulbs in and they were plenty bright. I have since replaced the 40 watt bulbs with 60 watt equivalent CFLs and they work great. They look good on or off and I can't stop looking at them. ... show more

We needed to replace a pull chain light that was our kitchen sink work light. Since we live in a historical house, I was not able to find parts to repair the light. We ordered a light from a different vendor other than Amaazon and the description stated it had an on/off switch but the switch was not on the light. We returned the light and ordered this light. It looks great and was very easy to install. The only difference from the picture is we positioned it with the globe pointing down. ... show more

I wanted nothing fancy, just a basic, attractive hallway lamp powered from unswitched wires in the wall. This was a fairly easy installation, even with my rudimentary electronics experience. One minor detail was off in the instructions: you will not be able to fit the glass shade over the bulb; you have to securely install the shade first, then the bulb can be screwed in second. Also, I called out no dimmer because the ad gave me a false impression that the switch at the base is also a dimmer. It's just a classic on/off switch. Perhaps the seller meant that it can be safely used as a fixture connected to a wall dimmer switch. It still serves the purpose well in the hallway between 2 doors (pictured with a 40 watt equivalent LED bulb - the bulb only illuminates the top by design) ... show more
