  • It Does What It’s Designed To Do, Very Well
Color: Black
The media could not be loaded. This mat and I have a love/hate relationship. My sweet Ollie has been in sand her whole life. She’s 4 now. I took over guardianship of her when my SIL got a new route at UPS. He drives big rig and now he’s over the road, so he needed someone to take care of Ollie. I said of course. We’ll all be living together soon anyway so this was just moving this timetable up a few months. One of my kids already has a beardie, and she has a carpet similar to this. She loves it, Flame had no problems adjusting to it, and they’re just all around happier with it than they ever were with sand. So I decided to order this and try it out with Ollie. It has its pros and cons. Pros: It was super easy to cut this to fit her tank. The tank she’s in right now is a requisitioned aquarium and it’s really not wide enough for her, at only 12 in. But I’m saving, and I already have her new terrarium picked out! It’s SO easy to clean up when she goes to the bathroom😉👍🤗. She usually goes in a place that’s easy to get to, but even when I have to move things around, it’s easy and can be done quickly and efficiently. It helps hold heat in her tank. The bookshelves at her old place had been built around her tank, and they insulated it very well. She NEVER got cold. Now that I have her she’s out in the open, and though her tank NEVER goes below 72 degrees, I know she’s still feeling a big difference. She’s not showing signs of stress anywhere, and I keep a close eye on her. I’ve also added a heating pad under her tank for nighttime and an additional set of lights during the day. She seems to be thriving and even appears to have gained a little bit of weight! Cons: She tank surfs, a lot. This is something that was worrying me quite a bit. Up until yesterday it seemed to be all she was interested in doing. Well, besides eating😂💜. While she’s doing it she also digs at the carpet, almost as if she’s trying to dig a hole. I feel guilty. I feel like at this point she has lost absolutely everything. She’s away from her native country, she’s stuck in a tank, she can barely turn around, a giant feeds the same basic stuff every day, and now, on top of everything else, they went and took her sand?! Replacing it with this nasty black stuff?!?! I ask myself if I would like it and the answer is a resounding no! I’m going to give it a few more days and see what happens since she hasn’t been acting up as much. I’m well aware that she could just be feeling some anxious emotions over having such a big move forced on her and I need to give her plenty of time to adjust. I know that there are plenty of beardies out there who do very well with this substrate, and in my opinion the good outweighs the bad. I’ll continue to stick with this for now and if I need to I’ll update later. ... show more
