🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The product reviews show a mixed reception, with many appreciating the air conditioning units for their effective cooling, easy setup, and value for money, especially when purchased refurbished. However, there are concerns over issues like leaking water, cosmetic damages, and the lack of certain features such as WIFI and a heating option in some units. While the AC units seem to function well in different settings—from bedrooms to RVs in Florida—their noise level and heaviness are points of contention among users.

Pros

  • 🌬️ Effective cooling and heating capabilities across various settings.
  • 💰 Great value, especially for refurbished models.
  • 🔧 Easy setup and installation process.
  • 🔋 Appears to be energy efficient with minimal impact on electricity bills.
  • 📏 Compact size, though with a note on their weight.

Cons

  • 🔊 Noise level not suitable for all, despite being quieter than some window units.
  • 🏋️‍♂️ Heavier than expected, making movement challenging.
  • 💧 Possible leaks leading to damage of personal property.
  • 📏 Hose length and flexibility could be improved.
  • ⚙️ Missing features on certain models, such as WIFI and heating options.

Should I Buy It?

Considering the performance, ease of use, and value for money, purchasing one of these AC units could be a good decision, especially if energy efficiency and effective cooling and heating are priorities. However, potential buyers should weigh the possible downsides, including the risk of leaks and the unit's noise and weight. If these concerns are minor compared to the benefits, then this product might be a suitable addition to your home.

  • Great unit! Very happy with performance
I ordered two of these refurbished units. They arrived well-packed and in good shape. There were some minor surface scratches, but nothing I mind; they’re refurbished and far less expensive than buying new. They install fairly easily. But I had to put my units on low tables so that the hose would reach the windows. I will be buying longer replacement hoses to fix that issue. The AC blows cold and I’ve turned on the heater and fan; both work great and seem to be energy efficient; compared to a portable that I had in the past, the impact on my electric bill was negligible. I appreciate the remote control, although I wish it had a display so that I could go through the modes without being close enough to the machine to see the display on it. These are NOT super quiet units. That’s not as issue for me. I’m using one in my bedroom and the other in a living space. They are both quieter than window units that I’ve had in the past and I think of them like a bit of white noise. It’s only as annoying as you allow it to be-and for a cool/warm room, I’ll trade the hum of an appliance. It’s not loud enough to interfere with conversation and it can’t be heard over the phone. Downsides: while not very large, the Pinguinos are HEAVY. They roll nicely on their casters, but if you have to lift them for stairs or any other reason, be prepared to get a workout. As mentioned above, the hose could be longer and I wish they made these hoses to be more flexible, but no company does, so there must be a reason? 🤷♀️ Overall, I’m really pleased with these. Especially since I also saved a lot by purchasing refurbished units. ... show more

  • NIGHTMARE!
Came in on a flimsy box filled with torn down styrofoam pieces. Then I noticed that the UPC numbers on the side of the machine was crossed out and new numbers where “hand written with a black permanent marker”. With now a different model number, it’s not what was advertised nor what I paid for. My first thought was, “it must’ve been stolen”. When I unpacked the box, there was no owner’s manual in the box. i contacted both DeLonghi and Amazon, but all i got was an email chain from person to person to assist me. Still no manual. Can’t get the manual online since it’s refurbished with a new modem number now.. Sketchy, right?!?! After setting it up, I thought, “Whew! I got lucky this thing works.” A few weeks later, I got a call from the leasing office asking if I have left the water running because the unit below me has water damage on the ceiling, the walls, the carpet and everything in their closet. This DeLonghi Portable AC has been leaking water and didn’t alert me to empty the drain tank. Isn’t this machine equipped with an auto shut-off or an error code to show on the screen that something went wrong? It should have..! But I have no owner’s manual to go by. I now had to put the Portable AC on risers to at least give the carpet it’s on proper air to avoid mold, etc. This is in my bedroom! Expensive lesson learned! I wish this to nobody! BUY BRAND NEW! It’s refurbished for a reason and they don’t want to lose money, so they sell it in such a low price that it get’s rid of these defects out of their stock warehouse, or in this case, someone’s van. Amazon is still trying to contact the seller but they’re not responding. Amazon says that I’m getting a full refund. We’ll see… about the damages form the unit below, Amazon hasn’t said anything yet… Now, I’m getting the run around so they wouldn’t be responsible for the defective unit. This has dragged on so long that it’s now passed the 30 day window to return the unit for a working one. This has been a nightmare NOBODY deserves. I feel so bad for the neighbors below me. Their lives were affected by this since they had to deal with the repairs and lost items from the water damage. Water damage is a serious thing, so as customer service. ... show more

  • Cools 700sqft apartment
Cools full 700sqft 1bed apartment. Maintains entire house at roughly 77F or below when outside it’s 90+F in Seattle humidity. I have only 2F difference in bedroom and rest of the house. AC wasn’t offended by Stove, oven, dishwasher operations - all of which add a lot of heat to the apartment. Not to mention a south facing apartment with full blast of sun. I am so glad that I went with the square footage rating over BTUs. I thought black and decker 14000 btu would work. It couldn’t accomplish cooling even single 120sqft bedroom, and compressor would overheat and shutdown. Then I thought about just getting this one and now I am cooling the entire apartment with just one AC. Compressor keeps chugging along and cools the entire apartment. I checked my power consumption and this AC consumed less than my black and decker did. Which was surprising as this AC was reviewed independently to consume more power. I decided to get refurbished one mostly to save on cost. But this has exceeded the expectations in price to performance ratio. Last thing. This AC is relatively quiet. I got 55db-A near it. And 52db-A when it’s on whisper quiet mode. So my 3-week old baby only heard about 45-50db-A near her (60db-A is considered relatively loud for newborns). Things to keep in mind, Sensor errors and cooling issues: multiple reviewers of original product said to keep the AC still when you get it so that refrigerant can settle. I did that for 11 hours (of recommended 24 and minimum of 6) and I haven’t gotten a sensor error or cooling issues. Exhaust pipe: I don’t have it insulated. Maybe it should be. But I focused mostly on ensuring there are no leaks near the connectors. I had to buy additional exhaust pipe as the one it came with was too short. I had a unique issue that the apartment had a pre-drilled exhaust for 4.25”. So I designed and 3D printed my own threaded connector for great results. But I imagine it can be done easily through ducting tape, and off-the-shelf reducers. I haven’t tried heating system yet. But it’s a good to have. Wasn’t stoked to learn that you still need to connect exhaust pipe to run the heater. ... show more
