🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The De'Longhi A/C unit receives high praise for being an effective and convenient cooling solution. Customers appreciate the unit's portability with wheels, self-evaporating feature that eschews the need for emptying water buckets, and the fact that it cools spaces to a comfortable temperature. Some concerns relate to its weight, making it difficult to move without assistance, and its vertical air flow, which may require a redirection solution.

Pros

  • 🌬️ Cools efficiently over time, even if patience is required.
  • 🐧 Aesthetic design that can resemble a penguin with a bit of imagination.
  • 🔝 Has wheels for easier portability despite its heavy weight.
  • 💧 Features a self-evaporation system that negates the need for emptying water buckets.

Cons

  • ⚖️ Very heavy, not easily lifted or moved by one person.
  • 🔼 The unit directs air upwards, possibly requiring modification for directional flow.
  • 💸 On the expensive side, though comparable within its technology category.
  • 🔘 Remote control is reported to be less sensitive and a bit gimmicky.

Should I Buy It?

Yes, if you need a portable air conditioner and don't mind the higher price tag, the De'Longhi A/C unit is worth considering. It is well-received for its cooling abilities and convenient features, such as the self-evaporation system and wheels. However, consider the potential need for assistance with moving the unit and possible modifications for airflow direction.

  • It's big and heavy

Dear Prospective Owner of this De'Longhi A/C, (cue background music:) ♪ It's like a heat wave ♪ I purchased this through Amazon, although it can be cheaper bought directly, but I wanted it sooner and, frankly, Amazon can be better with deliveries and returns, imho. Don't be fooled by the strapping young lad who carries this over his shoulder to your door-step. This is frick'n heavy. I couldn't lift the box to carry it inside. What ever protein shakes and such that they are doing to these Amazon delivery guys.. I don't know. So, thankfully, this device has wheels, so unboxing it where it is and pushing it where you need it to be is a huge plus. OK, now I only found this out after it was delivered and turned on... if this had a chance of being shipped on its side or whatever and not upright. LET IT REST UPRIGHT for at least 6 hours before turning on so the oil can filter back down to the compressor. Or else, you might ruin the compressor. (I did not have this prob, it's just noted in the manual.) Now that you have burnt 3,000 cal man-handling this contraption into place and removed all the weird tape and shtuff on it. It has to be vented. Shorter distance the better. I have an old pet door (RIP Spanky the monkey!) that hasn't been used in years that happens to be a convenient exhaust portal. Thankfully, unless in a humid environment, you don't have to do trips to the whatevers to do repeated emptying of a water bucket. It self-evaporates. 👏 👏 👏 This contraption blows air almost straight up.. which can be a bit annoying, depending on the deployment of said contraption. But, it is effective, albeit loud like any A/C unit. PROS: - Sort of looks like a Penguin if you squint your eyes a bit. - Cools well, albeit, you have to be patient, but it's like any other A/C of this range. - Has wheels! - NO EMPTYING BUCKETS, this is actually pretty neat. Last unit I had needed a lot of maintenance. - Remote is a little bit of a gimmick and not always reliable, but cool (pun intended) CONS: - Heavy. Like, you seriously might need help getting this into place if you aren't in the WWE or work for Amazon Freight™. - Points air UP, which, I know the ceiling could use a little more attention, but you might end up using the excessive packaging cardboard to fashion a 90 degree duct to blow the air where you want. (seriously) - Kind of expensive, but relatively OK for gadgets in this genre. 4.5/5 ... show more

  • Product is great. (Edited) (Edited again to reflect after a month.)

The touch-control remote isn't as sensitive as the touch buttons on the console itself. The air conditioner is decently quiet and gets quieter on the whisper mode or eco mode. This air conditioner outputs air pretty well and it's chilled how you expect an air conditioner to work. However I just received it yesterday in 75 degree weather in oregon. Not overloaded with humidity or anything I just wanted to try it when i got it. I waited 12 hours from when it got shipped to me to start it even though it looked like it was held upright and taken care of during shipping. Worked great, ran it for 2 hours on the bottom floor of my apartment. However i start it the next day and I'm greeted by a smell that can only be described as "fish". Not fishy but exactly like fish. The smell might go away, I'll even try cleaning the filter and I'll update an edit with how it goes in the near future. I just think it's not great that after 2 hours of operation and 24 hours in not that humid of setting equals fish smell. The unit so far is great and the only thing is this random fish smell. I haven't had to use it yet but I can't Express how important getting a supplementary protection plan is. Theres a 4 year coverage option available that covers for 4 years. You get 2 years of coverage from the manufacturer and the plan is supposed to "take over" once that 2 years is up. The plan says they'll cover everything including shipping. Idk if they'll cover shipping while the manufacturers coverage is active but even so. Its expensive to ship a like 80 pound item and with something this expensive to buy I'd rather wait 2 years to have it covered and fixed than pay even more in shipping than the protection plan costs. Also let's be real. Within 4 years it's likely you'll need servicing anyways. Just wanted to give a heads up to future buyers. Edit: the fish smell was gone when I ran it the day after. Idk what's up with that. It may or may not come back. However before purchasing I wanted to let future customers know not to compare their air conditioners or window units directly to portables. WINDOW UNITS ARE INHERENTLY BETTER. With how they are manufactured and operate is different. Portables arent on the same level and if you're expecting the same result you're in for a bad time. Do your research. Single hose portables draw in air from inside and can cause air from outside to be drawn in. Dual hose units draw in air from the outside and avoid this problem. Getting an air conditioner depends on your humidity, area of room you're trying to cover and the efficiency of the air conditioner itself. Keep in mind that portables were forced to have a different rating system from regular air conditioners and to look and verify the new ratings before purchase. For the price of single hose units this one appears to be the best if you cant go above $500-$600. Not many dual hose units seem to be available. However don't get a portable and expect it to be just as good as a unit that if through a window or roof. This unit pushes out cold air and at a decent volume. May not make your whole area an ice box but if it can cool it from 90-100 degrees to a more manageable 70-80 it's still worth it if you cant have anything other than a portable unit. Second edit: I've used this unit multiple times and only had a fishy smell the one time. Still don't know what that was about. However the air conditioner is good, has run clean of any smells since then and has done a good job of cooling off my livingroom / kitchen / downstairs area of my apartment. This seems to be the best buy that actually cools around this price range, going any higher will cost you a lot more. I've changed my review to five stars since that random fish smell hasn't been an issue and everything has worked as expected. Kinda sad the touch remote isn't as sensitive as the console itself but that's just me and I won't knock off a star for that as it still works reliably. Overall I'm happy about it even if it did cost a lot of money. Worth a try for anyone that can't have a window unit or similar. ... show more
