I've had this mini split for about 2 months now, installed and working for a little over a month now. I have a finished insulated work space in my pole barn that I use as my office since I work from home. I bought this unit to cool and heat the space. I live in Michigan and we have hot humid summers and very cold winters. I attempted to do this as a DIY and bought this unit since it was the cheapest one I could find - I didn't want to spend a lot on it since it's not in my house. First word of advice, this is VERY difficult to install as a total DIY. While mounting the unit, drilling the hole in the wall, running the lines, installing the outdoor unit and running the electrical for it isn't that hard, the HVAC portion is tricky and you really need to know what you are doing in order to do this correctly. The lines must be vacuumed before releasing the refrigerant or you risk having moisture in the lines which will ruin these units over time. I ended up doing most of the DIY myself but called out an HVAC company to pressure test and vacuum the lines and add the refrigerant. It turned out that I did have a leak in the lines, one of the connections needed to be reflared. It's been up and running for over a month, and it quickly cools my office space and keeps it nice and comfortable. This unit uses hardly any electricity. I've monitored the usage while it's running and my total usage for my barn was about 800 watts, including the lights and my computer and monitors, so this thing is super efficient. Before I installed this I was using a portable AC unit (one of the ones where you connect an air hose to your window) and my electric bill for my barn dropped by half after installing this and getting rid of the portable AC. Both the outside and inside units are whisper quiet. I will come back and provide an update in the winter months with how well it heats when it gets really cold outside. So far, I'm very impressed with the quality considering the price, and plan to install a few more in my house since we don't have central AC currently. Update #1: Nov 15 - it's starting to get chilly outside and this thing is effortlessly keeping my office toasty warm! The coldest morning we've had so far is around 30 degrees and was still kicking out plenty of heat when it turned on. During the summer I would turn it off after I was done working and then turn it back on the next day when it started to get warm. Now that it's cold all the time, I'm leaving it run 24/7 and still my electricity usage hasn't gone up too much. Still very impressed with this thing. My one (minor) annoyance is that I've noticed that it seems to keep the temp of the room roughly 5 degrees beyond the set point. For example, in the summer if I had the AC set to 75, it would keep the room at 70. On heat, if I have it set to 68, it keeps the room at 73 which for me is way too hot. I've since learned to set it 5 degrees cooler than I actually want it. A little annoying, but not enough for me to remove a star. I still give it 5/5. Will update again in the middle of the winter when it's much colder outside. Update #2: Jan 9 - except for a warm spell right after Christmas, we've had consistently cold weather here, including many mornings in the single digits and daytime highs in the teens and the Della mini split is still kicking out plenty of heat and keeping my office in the 70s. I have noticed my electric bill for my barn increase quite a bit since the winter started, but that is expected as these systems consume more energy for heating than for cooling. I've also seen the defrost cycle kick on quite a few times and it keeps the coils on the outside unit clear of ice and frost. I'd say this is performing better than I had expected and I still give it 5/5 stars after 7 months of use. Update #3: 1/26/26 - since so many people have found this review helpful, I thought I'd come back and provide another update - it's been almost 2 years since I first had this mini split installed in my office and I'm still impressed with it having been through 2 summers and now in the midst of the second winter. The main reason I wanted to provide an update here is that - as anyone living in the Midwest knows - we are currently experiencing one of the coldest winters in recent history and it's been significantly colder than when I left my last update last January. We've consistently had below zero temps (lowest we've had so far is -13F) with daytime highs in the single digits (coldest was a daytime high of 1 degree F) and the Della mini split is STILL pushing out warm air and keeping my office at a comfortable 70 degrees in these extreme cold conditions. I will say that I am starting to experience an issue where occasionally the unit will become unresponsive to changing the temperature either with the app or with the remote, it will beep three times indicating some sort of error and then return to the previous setting. I have not been able to figure out what this means or identify any specific error, and the only thing that solves it is flipping the breaker, waiting 10 seconds, and flipping it back on. This has happened about 3 times since the beginning of this winter. I do wish the app was able to display error logs or help diagnose any potential issues. It could also be a firmware issue that might be solved with an update? I don't really know but overall I still rate this as 5/5 stars and would buy it again! ... show more

Very satisfied with our DELLA 18000 BTU mini split AC. Despite Della saying this is a non DIY unit, probably due to it being a 240v system, requiring a new 240v breaker install on the service panel, and also a system that needs to be vacuum purged before first use, I was able to self install this unit with no prior mini split experience. That's not to say I had no DIY experience. So, if you have done some prior DIY home improvements and can make sense of basic wiring then you may be able to DIY it yourself. That said, there are a few tips I would offer. First, buy yourself a torque wrench able to do at least 60 Nm torque along with some crow foot wrench heads up to 1" and use it as suggested in the Della instructions. There are a lot of YouTube videos about DIY mini split installs out there where guys say no torque wrench no worries just tighten it "real good". It pays to get the torque right. The issue is mostly refrigerant leaks if the connections aren't right. Do it. Second, buy or borrow a HVAC vacuum pump and gauge set. You have to vacuum the system before releasing the precharged refrigerant. There is some confusion out there about the pre charged coolant. Mr Cool systems pre-charge the tubing, Della precharges the compressor. You have to vacuum a Della system. Third, get a tubing bender and flaring kit. The lines are "long enough" for most average installations. But the 1/2" copper tubing does not bend easily and is easy to crimp and to make useless if the ruined bend isn't cut out. You may need a shorter line and cutting the tubing, re-flaring it, and bending it here and there may be necessary. Trying to loop or snake the 1/2" copper tubing without a bender is risky. Luckily I had or could borrow all the above tools. But I can see from having installed the kit that not having that stuff would be an issue. Lastly, make sure you install a disconnect box by the outside unit. So, all in all, not a big deal to install this unit. Worked great immediately. Cooling our garage without a problem. Also, although most guys think any wiring from the panel has to be Romex we used 12AWG copper stranded without any issues. The Della interconnect is only 16AWG stranded, so 12AWG is prob overkill. The unit draws a max of about 12 amps and recommends a max 15 amp circuit breaker. Although the unit has a count down timer, in other words you set a number of hours after which it will turn itself off, it does not have a scheduling timer that allows you to set a daily routine for on/off, temp, etc. That is one feature I wish DELLA would add. Although there is a companion phone app for controlling the unit via WiFi I did not use that app. My only complaint is the info supplied by Della on wiring the outside unit could be more helpful. Although schematics are included it would be helpful for the manual to show a photo or illustration of the completed wiring block and which wire from which cable goes where. It's obvious, after you have it hooked up. But having a as completed illustration or indication of which block is for the interconnect and which is for the mains and what is intended would be helpful. All that said, the DELLA 18000 BTU mini split is a great value at the price compared to what, to me, are the very over priced Mr Cool systems. Works better than the daikin mini split we put in my office in 2022. more features and runs even quieter (yep its possible). these things are a no brainer good deal and easy to install. just pickup a lineset cover and mount for the outdoor unit. wife loves the wifi feature and remote is relatively simple. cold cold air in places we never though possible (shed converted into a new living space) with a total of 50amps to the structure (2 pole 20 amp breaker on 12/2 romex to the mini split, but 15 amp with 14/2 would absolutely suffice per the owner manual guide as these only draw 6 or 7 amps). only gripe is the holes for the power on the outside unit are too close for two 3/4" flex conduit watertight connectors. i did modify for fitment with a carbide bit. get one. ... show more

DON’T BUY THIS UNIT FROM THIS SELLER PART II

Part II: Let me start by saying again that this ordeal has coincided with me having breast cancer and undergoing a double mastectomy. The seller sent a THIRD defective product. This one also does not blow warm air. In essence, the heating portion doesn’t work. So, when New Orleans underwent an unprecedented blizzard a few weeks ago, and we were blanketed with snow and cold for days, we had NO HEAT!!!!! We are expected to get unseasonably cold weather again next week with NO HEAT!!! The seller keeps telling me I’m out of the refund time frame. I purchased this in the summer. How could I have known six months later that the heat wouldn’t work. Part I: Let me start by saying, I have breast cancer and just underwent a double mastectomy a month ago. I bring this up because I should not be having the trouble I am having, in my condition, with this seller who wants to send me, not a second replacement, but a third replacement for this unit, which I originally purchased about six months ago. I live in New Orleans where summers are brutal. It took a good portion of the summer to get them to resend a replacement unit for the one I ordered in June, which registered a P5 message from the moment it went up. What’s more is the technician I had putting it in had to PAY to speak to someone with the brand about what he might be doing wrong. It was only after that that the seller admitted there must be something wrong with the item after they could troubleshoot no more. When the second one came, it worked. But, I have to say I wasn’t impressed with its productivity. It did not cool the two rooms to the degree I imagined it would, though it was not unbearable. However, when we tried to use it a few weeks ago for the first time for the heat, it would not blow warm air, despite being set to 85. It was on the whole day, went off in the middle of the night, and would not come on, at first, the next day. When it did, still there was no warm air. Nor would the inside unit register a temperature as it had been doing all along. The seller wanted me to send a 15-20 video of it not coming on, though my complaint was about it not warming up. Then, the seller wanted me to send a 15-20 minute video of it not warming up. I asked repeatedly how I was supposed to video it not warming up. The seller stopped contacting me until I contacted Amazon. Then, the seller let me know that I was out of time on a refund. They offered a third replacement. That isn’t what I wanted, but I was forced to agree to. Once I did, they were back to asking me to first send a video. Then, they wanted to have someone troubleshoot with me. Then, they wanted to send only part of the unit, though they had offered a full replacement. I have never had an experience like this on Amazon, who I am also displeased with since they refused my request for a refund because they only do it in the instances of wrong items sent. How isn’t a dysfunctional item not the wrong item????? ... show more

So quiet! 240 volt 1800 BYU

Not sure how long it will last, but everything seems well made. Installation was super easy, O Riely’s loans out for free the maniflod gauges and vacuum pump needed to install. If you don’t vacuum the air out of the lines it’ll mix with the freon and turn acidic and ruin your new AC. My only complaint is the line set they provide is too short for any practicle use. If you figure the condensing unit is outside near the ground and the evaporator unit is inside near the cieling, the copper lines provided are too short if you have standard 8 or 10 foot cielings. Yes, you can buy longer copper tube anywhere, but its not that simple, if you add additional length you then also need to add additional refrigerant, and this odd ball “new” refrigerant proved to be impossible for me to find anywhere, not to mention you’ll also need to weigh in the additional charge and check it all on gauges. It would have been a lot simpler had they just provided 2-4 foot longer lines (and appropriate charge) for a typical install. My only other complaint is there are no physical controls on it, you can only turn it on/off with the remote or app (I haven’t tried the app). Maybe I’m just old school, but I would have preferred at least a physical on/off button on the actual unit. The complaints are minor though, the real mind blower is how absolutely quiet the inside and outside units are. When I first turned it on from the outside disconnect switch I thought something was wrong, it wasn’t making any noise at all, I had to take a closer look to see the fan was turning outside then wondered when the compressor was going to kick on. Went inside and it was already cold in there, the compressor makes no noise, no vibrations. My neighbor is 1/4 mile away and I can hear his AC unit kicking on all the time, its actually louder 1/4 mile away than this one is right next to it. It cools great, even on hot humid days. I’m really hoping the heat pump function works as advertised this winter. They claim it works with an outdoor temp down to 5 F, our old heat pump, even when it was brand new, wouldn’t work if the outdoor temp got to just 32F. I’ll update this review come winter after seeing how it does. Yes, I highly recommend this, just make sure you size the BTU right for the space you have, you can go to large or to small, bigger doesn’t always mean better with AC units and trying to save from buying to small of a unit will cost you in the end from working it to death. 1 more huge plus worth mentioning, they did an exceptional job writting the installation and user manual, one of the best manuals I’ve seen in a very long time. The print is a human readable size, not microscopic. It’s not on cheap photocopy paper that’s mostly black blurs like most manuals, even the pictures are clear. It’s also all in english, not 40 different languages. I was just about as impressed with the manual as I was with the unit, a refreshing change from what’s become normal, job well done to who ever made the manual. ... show more

This is my first full Florida summer with this unit. It has kept my workshop at a comfortable temperature. It is much more efficient than the widow unit. Easy install. I got the adapters on Amazon and borrowed the vacuum pump fron the auto parts store. Took me alone about 2 hours.

Amazing Budget Heat/Cool System - With Some Limitations

Install was fairly straight forward, but does require an HVAC Pump and gauges to pull a vacuum. Additional tools and supplies added about $200 to the price. The line set was fine, and I did not need to reflare the line prior to install, but did use Nylog Blue for all connections. The head unit was very plasticy, including the tabs that hold the bottom to the wall. because I chose to use the opposite side to run the line set out, I still had the lines behind the unit and it was difficult to get the tabs snapped in place on the wall mount. My only complaint with the system is the lack of adjustability on the auto setting. It is preset and cannot be adjusted from 77 for cooling and 68 for heating. 68 I can live with but 77 is a bit too warm for my application. Also, the app is great, however, you cannot change between heating/cooling in the app. Whatever it is set (heating mode or cooling mode), is what the app will let you select. Only option is to use the auto mode. (Not normally something you'd need, but while I was travelling, the temps went from 80's to 40's, so it was frustrating not being able to set the temp for heat only). It's also going to run the fan constantly to keep the air moving over the thermostat inside the head unit. only way to have it completely shut off is to turn it off (unlike normal hvac that will only kick on when the temp drops) I will say the outdoor unit is amazingly quiet compared to anything else. ... show more

Great Value and Excellent Performance
I bought two of these, one for my living room and one for my bedroom. Originally, I planned to buy a single 18,000 BTU unit, but it was around $2,500. I found these for a fraction of the price, and I’m so glad I did. I had an HVAC technician install them, so I can’t comment on the installation process, but they’ve been working great. They heat and cool much more evenly than one larger unit would have, they’re quiet, and it’s nice being able to control the temperature in each room separately.
