  • Good for gaming, Not for Travel
Style: i5-8300 | GTX 1050
I have had this laptop for about 4 months now. I am a full time student, and as such I use this laptop for all of my school related activities, as well as gaming. When it comes to performance this laptop does very well, I am able to run Overwatch, Pubg, and other popular titles on high and ultra settings, while maintaining a solid 50-60 frames per second. The 256 GB SSD really sells this machine, with a quick start up and ability to multi-task incredibly well. The backlight on the keyboard is alright at best, it does the job however it will turn off after about a minute of not being used, which can be annoying at times however small complaint. I think the keyboard backlight would be better if it had a function to stay on for an unlimited period of time. The typing experience is average, I can type 60-70 wps no problem, however I will say it is worth investing in a separate keyboard if you are going to be using this on a desk. I find that when using the keyboard for gaming the large bezel at the bottom underneath the keyboard can dig into your wrists and can be uncomfortable after long periods of gaming. So to recap, performance wise this laptop excels very well in day to day use and gaming. Now, my more negative issues with the laptop. It is heavy. It isn't the heaviest gaming laptop, but when I am carrying this laptop in my backpack from class to class it definitely adds more weight than I would like, however I understand that is the cost for all the performance packed into this device. Moreover, there is no 1TB HHD inside of this laptop. This is a huge setback because if you are gaming the 256 GB SSD can run out of space very, very quickly. If you are interested in this laptop, I recommend upgrading the storage to a 1TB ssd, or simply adding another hard drive which luckily this laptop is capable of. The laptop can get fairly loud when gaming, so keep that in mind if you plan to play videogames in public with this device. With that being said, The cooling in this machine is much better than expected, I have played games for hours on end and never hit over 60 degrees celcius. Overall, this machine has done very well for the price. I have no issue playing any videogames or performing any other tasks as a full time college student. Definitely take into account the storage that is actually offered with this laptop, as well as the weight. Other than that it really is a great little machine and I recommend it if this is in your budget. ... show more

  • Great PC- would buy again
Style: i5-8300 | GTX 1050
Great computer. I didn’t buy it for gaming it’s for business. I find value-wise gaming computers offer more then overpriced business geared pc’s that always lack in the performance area. Only thing that’s bad about gaming PCs is battery life. With that said battery life is not horrible, I get a solid 4-5 hrs of excel and email work. 3-4 hrs of Netflix. Has not slowed down in the passed few months since purchasing. ... show more

  • This Laptop is GREAT
Style: i5-8300 | GTX 1050
I bought this about 6 months ago mainly for some gaming and college courses, and some face chat on Skype. I LOVE the back-lit keyboard, I get 120-144 fps on most games, minimum 80fps on Highest settings possible. NVIDIA Graphics are beautiful. Did i mention I love the Back-Lit Keyboard? Tons of space on the hard drive (1 terabyte). i-5 intel is a very good processor. I love it. My only complaint is that the fan is on the back edge, almost under the laptop, so it can get pretty hot on flat surfaces after a while of gaming or video chat. Don't even think about extended hours of studying with it on your lap. It's not that kind of "lap"top xD. Thank you Dell for making a wonderful product. I will be a returning customer. -A very satisfied customer. ... show more

  • Runs games smoothly
Style: i5-8300 | GTX 1050
Definitely worth the price, it runs games smoothly and it doesn't look crazy like other gaming laptops. It's good for daily use and carrying around.

  • Neither bad nor good; fine if you're just looking for the basics, but not worth the price
Style: i5-8300 | GTX 1050
I've had this Dell G3 laptop since July of 2019. I've previously had an ACER ASPIRE laptop and I bought that in 2018, and I was significantly more rough with it, and I feel like it lasted me much longer. I've been very careful with my Dell, and honestly, it has been mediocre. My machine is running Windows 10, GeForce and has both the "Dell Update" and the "Support Assist" features. Updates are inconsistent and often faulty; my laptop had massive issues with downloading some kind of update earlier this year in 2020, and I've consistently had issues where there was a massive typing delay on the built-in keyboard. The keys are fine, I've kept my laptop clean, but certain keys just won't type. My computer shut itself off and completely re-installed when it was having update issues, and completely deleted all my private folders. I had to re-download and re-install everything, all my music and games and backups. All my saves were also gone from my games. It's relatively fast if you have maybe one or two programs running at a time. I play casual computer games like Cities Skylines on steam, Minecraft Java edition, Spyro Reignited (with Microsoft's XBox controller support,) on steam, and some other games. I usually play on medium graphics on games like Skylines, Sims 4 or Spyro, but I can manage high graphics on Minecraft if I'm not playing modded. The laptop overheats quickly and needs a good flat surface to play on so the fans can run well, and it needs some time to cool down. I only use headphones so I don't know if the built in speakers are any good. I also do some light work on art programs like PaintNET and KRITA, and I use Wacom Intuos Pro. I also use intensive word processors like Libra Office and Scrivener, with huge documents because I'm a writer. I will admit, downgrading from an Acer Aspire to a DELL G3, the screen feels claustrophobic, especially in art programs. I can have one main program (like Krita, a game, or a word processor) up and sometimes a secondary program, like Google Chrome if I need something, or Spotify if I want to listen to music. It's fine. With the keyboard issue, I had an old spare plug-in keyboard so I'm using that, and I don't see myself trying to fix the built-in laptop keyboard, which completely defeats the initial purpose of why I bought this laptop (i'm a writer) but that's just how life is. I have not explored the DELL website so I don't know what support is like. One year later? I probably feel like I could have just spent $140 dollars on a Toshiba laptop for just writing and basic PaintNET and I would have been just fine, or heck? I have a friend who bought a laggy tablet that has a mini keyboard for just $90. All they do is write on that thing, I could have done the same. I probably could have gotten a fairly decent gaming desktop setup for light gaming, digital art and video editing between $300 and $400, and it still would have costed less than what I paid for this laptop. I would just need a dedicated stationary space for the desktop to go. Dell G3 laptop is not a gaming laptop. It's fine. When the keys actually work, it's relatively lightweight and very nice to write on, with a sleek keyboard. But that's all that it is, just fine. And it's astonishingly overpriced at $600+ dollars. ... show more
