I like medium to light roast low acid coffee. Smooth and does not hurt my tummy. With special beans, I need to make my own espresso drinks. Tom's video compared the Delonghi EC950 with the Bambino Plus. Since I use light roasted coffee beans, it was the better option. I have a good coffee grinder. I measure out my beans and weigh them accordingly and dial for a finer espresso grind. I see the crema on top of the espresso without using the pressurized 2 cup filter. I used the regular 2 cup filter. My first try was perfect. Love it. Only problem is after 5 pm, I should not have a second double espresso. I want one though. For my Cappuccino, I did use the auto milk frothing. I wanted a foamy milk and so I used the 60c temp with dense milk setting. For milk art use the milk temp of 65c and Latte Art fine milk froth setting. Delonghi has milk froth videos for this machine. I recommend going to YouTube and watching Tom's Coffee Corner. He has several espresso machine reviews for more affordable machines. He also has some great beginner "how to videos" which helped me make the best espresso drinks out my new espresso machine. Today was my day off and so I watched videos and experimented. So much fun making some good drinks. I will be up late tonight for sure! ... show more

Beautiful machine - solid with all the features you need ... the auto milk steamer/frother is wonderful ... looks great on the counter as well. A little pricey, but our local coffee shops won't be getting $6+ for a cup of espresso or latte going forward. Update Apr 27, 2024 ... we started to get reduced frothing even though we were cleaning the wand - then discovered the tip has THREE holes that can clog - cleaning all three with the supplied tool fixed the problem. ... show more

I have had multiple espresso machines, all of them in the $100-200 dollar range and all of them disappointments because they failed mechanically or electrically. I decided to go after a better product, and initially bought a Breville Baby Bambino which I returned because it required descaling too frequently and had problematic milk foaming. The de Longhi, although built in China, is a superior machine -- if it does not fail. It is highly automated, although many of the parameters - temperature, quantity, etc. - can be adjusted using the top panel buttons. It is sturdily constructed and attractive. After several weeks of use, however, I am less impressed by this device. It seems to require descaling too often and, even when I attempt to descale it according to the instructions, it does not complete descaling and the red descaling light remains on. Additionally, even after running approved descaling chemicals through the device, the temperature of the coffee and milk is too low and I have to reheat it using my microwave. I have not contacted DeLonghi about this, but will do so soon. ... show more

This is such a beautiful machine. I love how compact it is. I never wanted an espresso machine because of how large they are. Compared to my friend's machines that need their own section in the kitchen, this fits nicely next to my grinder and doesn't take up much space at all. It is small, solid, and still has all the features I need. You do have to learn to grind and pack your own grounds and probably experiment withdifferent techniques until you get your perfect pull. I love the auto milk steamer/frother. The wands are easy to use and clean. It comes with a needle tool to clean the spout at the end if it gets clogged. It also comes with a rather bulky scoop I find difficult to use. And it comes with 4 screens total: two double shot and two single shot screens in each fully stainless steel and with a silicone gasket for pressurized pulling. There is onboard storage compartment on the top but it does not fit three other screens when only one is in use. It only fits one screen. The other two I have to put in my kitchen chochke drawer. There is a nice tamper and a small bottle of descaler solution. I have been practicing a few days now and have made some really delicious cups of espresso. I'm trying to learn to get more consistency with practice. However, even for a novice who has only made coffee by coffee press previously, it was easy enough to use and not overwhelming at all. Last thing to mention, the body of the machine is not magnetic. I know there are a lot of espresso making gadgets and accessories that are magnetic and can stick to the sides of machines but those won't work on this. Overall, this is a great entry level machine but even experienced baristas would enjoy all the different settings because they allowed customizatio, manual adjustment, and artistry.
