Maybe I didn’t read the ad carefully enough, but I was expecting a larger winch, at least in terms of the amount of cable it can hold on the spool. I went back and checked the ad, and it says it can hold 36 feet of quarter inch cable, so I got some coated quarter inch cable to see, and no way is 36 feet of quarter inch cable fitting on this thing. This is not a terribly big deal for me, since I think I can make do with some 1/8” inch cable, but just be aware that the spool is quite small and really won’t hold very much. I got about 35’ of vinyl coated 1/8” on it. ... show more

Got this to use with a small unpowered boat and it is great. Smooth operation and sturdy construction. Assembly was just a single nut and it was ready to go. The latch is easy to operate and can be easily switched between its three stops.

This crank performs within the established parameters set forth my the manufacturer. Pros: 1. Solid materials 2. Strong if not ruggedly assembled construction 3. Excellent leverage and ratios for cranking 4. Strong locking mechanism won't just slip on you 5. Locking mechanism can be locked open to allow winding and unwinding Cons: 1. I little pricey considering I found other offerings with in the same price point but can hoist nearly double the weight 2. The instruction manual is more of a safety manual with does and don'ts instead of how to. This means your left to your own devices on how to load cable and operate the winch. It isn't rocket since but the included safety manual makes it clear improper use can be...dangerous. 3. No hardware is included of any kind. No mounting hardware and no cable, you get just the crank. All-in-all, the crank works and it works pretty well as long as you stay within the recommend weight tolerances. It's a touch pricey but not a budget buster so I would rate this 3.5-stars. ... show more

I don't know a lot about cranks or these winches per se, but this one seems to work fine. I got it to use with my sun shade, and use it to tighten the sun sale shade with the wire cable and make it tighter. It's working fine so far. If anything goes wrong I will update the review

This little winch is well made from quality material. It is lightweight yet solid and durable. The locking mechanism works well and it is easy to crank. It has a good cranking gear ratio. It does a nice job for lighter weight needs. The item is as descibed by the seller. And thus it should be noted that no hardware or strap/cable is included. I am pleased with this item and believe you will be as well. Therefore, Dr. T. recommends this product however it should be noted that there are other products similar to this one that are capable of handling heavier loads and come with cable at about this same or just slightly higher price point. ... show more

The design is typical of boat or trailer hand winches, if you have used one before. There is a basic latch to a witch when you want to reel out the strap, and then again to start winching with the hand crank. I got it for my 10 ft utility trailer and plan to add a 2inch strap for loading my fishing kayak or other gear. This isn't sized for heavy duty use and I would question its use for a full sized boat, but for smaller vessels or equipment it will be fine. ... show more
