Description

The Dash Rapid Cold Brew Maker circulates water through coffee grounds to extract rich, full-bodied flavor without heat. Just add medium-ground coffee to the Reusable Coffee Filter, fill the Glass Carafe with cold water, and press Start. Expect about 35 oz of cold brew from a full 40 oz carafe — the grounds absorb some water, which is normal. Too strong? Dilute with water at a 2:1 ratio. Now you can easily make cold brew lattes, Vietnamese coffee, and more delicious coffee drinks every day. Includes Carafe Lid, Hopper, Filter, and Cleaning Brush.

  • A solid product that delivers on what it promises!
Durability: I've had this coffee maker for around 9 months, and it's working just as well as the day I bought it. It's fairly easy to clean, although you need to make sure you aren't too rough around the mesh, you can push it away from the plastic and have to glue it back (with a food safe glue of course). I did recently break the bottom edge of the outer well, and it does still work and sit on top of the maker fine. This isn't a failure of the material, I accidentally dropped it in a rather spectacular fashion that I seriously doubt they're testing for in a QA lab. Ease of Use: This thing is pretty damn simple to use. Setup the machine in a permanent location on your counter near an outlet, suction cupping it down, and plug it in. After, take your ground coffee and put it into the inner basket and assemble it on top of the machine. Then you fill the carafe with the coldest water you can get your hands on, slide it in to a satisfying 'click'. After that, all you do it select your strength and hit start! In terms of cleaning, it's very easy to clean, just rinse thoroughly with water most days, and give it a decent washing once a week. It rinses out so easily that if you're brewing coffee every day or every other day there's not much need to seriously soap it down each time as long as you empty the used grounds after brewing. NOTE: The mesh will get discolored after a while, it still is clean, just stained from the coffee, looks gross, but it's fine. Flavor: I will say, most people I know who drink cold brew definitely like strong coffee, and so you'll want to use the "BOLD" setting on the machine to get a full-strength and full flavor coffee. This takes about ~15 minutes which is longer than the 9 minute advertised time. Still MUCH quicker than making it the night before and letting it steep in the fridge for hours! The actual coffee comes out flavorful and smooth, of course your mileage will vary with your choice of bean. It's perfectly respectable coffee and to be honest, if you think "Starbucks" when you think cold brew, this machine is about on par, which for my purposes is more than enough for my daily cup. If you're looking for something to match the boutique cafe down the street where they've memorized your name and order, you're likely going to need to double or triple your budget for that kind of coffee machine. Feature Suggestions: Honestly, I'd love to see an option for this with an even larger carafe, say 60oz! It'd also be nice to have a more premium version that can be hooked into a water line directly. Lastly, I wouldn't mind this hypothetical premium version using metal for the top assembly that holds the coffee grounds, would help with keeping it clean and increase the durability a bit more. Overall Review: This is a fantastic cold-brew machine and I'm very happy with my purchase. I've suggested it to friends, family and co-workers looking to cold brew at home. The price is a tad high, but it does go on sale frequently enough. If you love cold brew and are trying to save your wallet from the clutches of Starbucks, you can't go wrong with this machine. While you're at it, get a coffee grinder and by your coffee whole bean, it'll last longer and taste even fresher! ... show more

  • Love it! And brand has fantastic customer service!
UPDATE *** I've had this for about 6 months now and it's still working GREAT! But, a few days ago I accidentally knocked the top filter compartment off of my dish rack and it fell and cracked. As a result, if I tried to run the machine, the top compartment would leak. I was so sad! I tried to find a way to order a replacement part but did not see the option to, so I emailed Dash's customer support and they are sending me a replacement for my broken part free of charge! I'm amazed! I already love this machine and now I will definitely be checking out their other products because I am so impressed with the excellent customer service of this brand. **************************** This thing makes GREAT cold brew. It makes a better brew than any of my local coffee shops, and I appreciate how much control I have over the boldness of the brew. I like a STRONG cold brew- I brew New Orleans style coffee with chicory and use a very sweet creamer- I am very much going for BOLDNESS all around. This machine delivers, and FAST. I used to have to keep up on soaking grounds ahead and loading them into my carafe/mesh steeper situation. That old setup did make slightly bolder cold brew concentrate- but the brew from this machine is much less muddy and has a really clean, delicious flavor. The only downsides- it's noisy. Like, surprisingly noisy. Sometimes it scares my dog. 😆 I attached a video of the sound it makes, definitely watch that before you commit to this because it might be a deal breaker for some. The only other downside is that cleaning it can be a bit tricky, and it is near impossible to get all of the grounds out of the mesh compartment but, it's not a big problem for me. I run water and white vinegar through it occasionally to keep it clean, which works great! ... show more

  • Fast and great tasting cold brew
I love how fast this machine can make a carafe of cold brew. Also how easy this is to use. Just fill the container with coffee grinds, fill carafe with water, slide carafe into the machine and pick your strength of brew. It's very easy to clean with just a tap or two to release the used grinds in a trash bin. You can easily rinse the rest of the grinds from the basked and filter as well as carafe itself. I like having the options of three different brew strengths. Although I have to admit I only use the regular strength thus far. The regular strength to me tastes every bit as good and potent as the cold brew I'd get from Starbucks. So I haven't actually felt the need to try the strongest brew setting or the weakest. Using the regular brew is a nice midway point where if it's too strong for someone they can simply add water to dilute to their tastes. I do with he machine made a little bit more brew or filled the carafe more. You won't fill the carafe to the max fill line with cold brew even if you filled it with water to max fill. But with how fast you can make a carafe that's not a big deal, just quickly make more when you run out. One thing I don't like, that may eventually be a major fatal flaw is several times the machine didn't actually make any cold brew. It just sucked the water up and returned to the carafe, no cold brew at all. Once or twice it seems like the water/grinds did sort of mix, but not completely and what I was left with was a carafe of undrinkable weak watered down coffee. I've used this machine many, many times let me tell you. I drink primarily iced coffee and or cold brew. Since getting this machine a few months ago I've been using it 3 or 4 times a week. When it does work as intended the cold brew is fantastic and delicious. Just as good as what I've gotten many times at Starbucks. It tastes good enough that I don't miss a thing between cold brew from Starbucks or making it at home with this machine. The times it failed to work properly is a real disappointment. Considering how much coffee grinds it takes to fill up the basket, it's very upsetting when the machine has failed on occasion and all the wasted coffee. I'd say a standard size package of coffee you'll buy is enough to fill the basket to max and brew 3 or so carafes. Obviously it's frustrating when the machine failed to brew properly as you're throwing away so much coffee that you didn't get to enjoy. Overall I like the machine, how quick and easy to use along with the great taste of the brew makes this a product I'd recommend to others. Although keep in mind I've had mixed results as mentioned above with the machine not also correctly brewing. I haven't contact customer service yet, but may in the future if I keep having issues. ... show more

  • Great Machine If You Assemble and Use it Correctly. Great Machine If You Assemble and Use it Correctly.
Yes, a bit noisy, but who cares, leave the room. I like strong coffee so use 1 1/2 cups of dark roast ground coffee which is still below max fill line and set to bold with carafe filled to max 40 oz. with cold water. You must take care in assembling the machine. When adding coffee to the reusable filter I place a small shot glass over the top of the center post to prevent grounds from spilling through the holes or worse, plugging these holes as this will prevent it from working. Then make sure grounds are level and not piled up on one side as this can cause plugging and machine will stop working. When screwing the grounds container lid on the reusable filter make sure threads are straight and screw it all the way down (see photo). If you don't, it will not work or stop working after a couple minutes. In the next step when placing the resuable filter into the hopper, place your thumbs on the tabs on the top of the grounds container lid (see photo) and push down firmly to ensure it is fully seated. In the next step make sure the small tabs on the Hopper Lid are aligned with the slots on the top of the hopper and turn firmly about one inch to seat fully. If you can't get the lid on you failed to do the previous step correctly. Its a shame to see all the customers who returned what they thought were defective machines when the reality is they were not assembling the machine correctly. ... show more

  • Pump reverse stopped working and it won't make a full pot of coffee!
So there used to be a point at which during the Brewing phase the unit would stop and then the peristaltic pump would reverse so that it could drain the Brew filter on top.. Well at some point it decided it was no longer going to do this and so I have modified with a switch to force it to reverse the pump so it properly drains the Brew container on top where most of the best coffee ends up being trapped.. Without this reverse cycle not only does it not drain the upper Brew container but it also never purges a line and may trap bacteria in the machine.. The company needs to remedy this situation this is really bad and isn't only very annoying and inconvenient and wastes coffee but it could be dangerous to the customers health! I know numerous people this has happened too and I decided to get to the bottom of it and I have a video on YouTube on how to remedy it. ... show more

  • Good for a quick cold brew, but not the same as the normal process
I enjoy cold brew coffee....a lot. The biggest downside is the preparation time. I normally let mine brew for about 16 - 20 hours, depending on the bean I use as I like mine on the stronger side. This is a nice "quick" brew on those days I am too busy to do the preparation for my traditional cold brew. The setup was overall very simple, not overly complex. The maintenance and cleaning is not too dissimilar than my current cold brew hopper and carafe (if you're interested it's the OXO Brew Compact Cold Brew Coffee Maker). It can take anywhere from 7 minutes to 20 minutes dependent on the strength you choose (mild to bold). I tried the bold setting to see how strong and flavorful it would be; it's comparative to a milder traditional cold brew. I imagine the mild and regular settings would be much "weaker" than I would normally prefer, but in short, it wasn't bad. I do enjoy that it makes up to 40oz. at once, so it makes for a larger drink which would usually last me a day or two. For the price vs. convenience/time I personally think it's worth it. I can supplement my original cold brew with this in between or for those days where I didn't have time to prepare it. ~Just my 2 beans ... show more

  • Vacuum technology produces good flavor
I use this to replace any purchase of Stok coffee. It's more efficient with beans than some non-vacuum machines that just swish grounds around. I know you can do it cheaper with time, large buckets and filters... But this is shockingly fast. But it's loud! And as a delicate machine with parts that use fine metal mesh filters, it should be cleaned gently via hand and treated with respect. I think that's why a lot of people reported broken filters. As for the reviews reporting bad flavor... I dunno. Probably important to use freshly ground, medium roast coffee beans. It's nice, and it's even more concentrated compared to Stok Expresso. ... show more

  • Good improvements over the original Good improvements over the original
This is an updated version of the original rapid cold brew maker. It went from horizontal to vertical. It’s just as loud when it runs. It’s a vacuum pull of water, pressure forced thru the grounds over and over. The settings are timed longer than the original. The old were 5,10, and 15 mins whereas the new 8.2, 12, and 17 mins. The main improvement is the grounds sit atop of the machine instead of the side. The ports, after cleaning, face downwards to drip dry. The old constantly had water remaining in the tubes as you can see the underside photo. The cold brew is still amazing. I like this style of cold brew machine much more than those that spin a vortex as those are water flavored coffee. This really is cold brew from a store. The machine is quite a bit more money than it should cost IMHO. However, I don’t like waiting 24-48 hrs. If your cold brew costs $5 each time, 30 trips saved will break even. ... show more
