I bought these as a gift for a female friend. With her high standards and discriminating eye, I was afraid these wouldn't measure up in terms of quality or function. Turns out, she wears them every day. In addition, I was worried about 'thoughtfulness' (c'mon, socks for a female friend... DANGER!). She raves about the eclectic color combinations, warmth, durability and comfort. She is petite, and gets cold by a fan in the summer. Lucky for me she absolutely LOVES these. They size well, have a cushioned sole, and the neck of the sock hold them up even with her skinny legs. She loves the heavenly feel and even sleeps in them some night in lieu of worrying about slippers in the dark. They are mostly Merino wool, with some nylon and spandex thrown in to give a foot-forming-fit. Made in Vermont, USA. Put your cultural bias aside. Buy these for your cold-footed friend and you'll both be comforted.

I'm something of a sock freak. I'm also tall and wear a women's size 10 shoes/boots, so it's hard to find ordinary local-store socks that fit well, that are long enough up the legs, that aren't too tight or don't easily stretch out, and whose toe seams don't chafe when I wear my beautiful leather boots or certain shoes. These socks have no toe seams at all, and what a pleasure THAT is! They hug the feet and ankles, but not too tightly. And since this particular style is intended for hiking, the entire sole of each sock is cushioned. You can really feel the cushioning, and it's lovely; I've never had socks (or even slippers) that cushion your foot from toes to heel anything remotely like this. (I have a second pair of Darn Tough socks, knee highs, without the cushioning -- and also without toe seams, as are all of their socks. I really like those too.) Darn Tough socks are mightily expensive for a "mere" pair of socks. I've never before spent this much for one pair of socks in my life. On the other hand, they are guaranteed for life, so I figured I couldn't lose. My socks may outlive me! (Also: they're made in Vermont, NOT China; a big plus, as far as I'm concerned.) But more than anything, it's that seamless toe that won me over. I definitely made the right choice. I would, and will, buy more Darn Tough socks when I need them. (I have other, inferior pairs to wear out first.) One other thing: the many different colors and patterns are a little stroke of genius, I think. They're whimsical and cheerful; and they make you -- and the people seeing you wear them -- want to smile.

Excellent socks. I love everything about this sock. I wash and hand wash my socks so these will likely last for years. They are padded and I like that they are fitted around the arch.

Pros: 1--For my women's size 5 feet, these fit well all over, and I am happy that these come in a size S, many socks do not 2--Purple and gray patter is nice; Material is smooth, seems to stand up to wearing and washing/drying Cons: 1--Socks don't do much in terms of keeping my feet warm 2--Despite claim that the socks have full cushion, whether wearing shoes over them or walking around indoors, I don't feel any cushion beyond the soles of the socks like any other socks. Conclusion: Decent socks but I wouldn't repurchase because I prefer cushioned socks.

These socks are amazing. Just take care of them the way they suggest, since they are wool. I bought these for hiking in Patagonia for 3.5 weeks. I needed options for packing light and was looking for odor control. I went about 4 days use before washing, but could have gone longer, they never smelled.
