This is a very attractive knife and looked really good on the table while slicing through a prime rib roast. The Damascus pattern is a bit tough to see from a distance but when you are looking close at it you can visibly see it. The knife sliced through the roast effortlessly and had a razor blade like sharpness to it straight out of the box. I can't speak to longevity of the edge or the product in general but I am expecting to be pleased. As for value, I would rate it amazingly high. Given my experience with other good looking blades, I would easily see this sell for twice it's asking price. I wouldn't compare it to high end carbon steel blades but I would say it is nicer than probably 90% of the knives in people kitchens today. If you looking for better value but without the bling, go Vicotrinox. Would definitely recommend, especially as a gift to your favorite cook that appreciates a little bling.

Everything about this set is exceptional. The fork is very well balanced and compliments the knife, which is like a work of art. This is my 14th knife from Dalstrong and will be used to spin up a catering company in the near future. The Dalstrong whetstones will keep the edges "screamingly sharp"! We will butcher our own meats (buying in bulk is the most economical way to go), and several of the knives will be indispensable to our work. We will be purchasing additional knives as we add employees in our small family business. I highly recommend these knives and the company behind them - a LIFETIME Warranty on all products!

I was looking for a kitchen knife set to replace what had become a mixed bag of cutlery in our kitchen. I did quite a bit of research and looked at several high end (i.e. expensive knife sets). I decided to give Dalstrong a try and ordered the Shogun Carving Knife and Fork set. I am no knife expert and can't speak to the technical aspects of one brand over the other but I can say that these knives look great, feel good and perform better than I expected. Plus they are a tremendous value. I was so impressed that I also ordered the Phantom knife block set. This collection is equally as impressive and I'm sure will serve us well for many years.

As usual with Dalstrong, great value for the money. The reason I went with the Shogun Series for a carving set was based on two specific reasons - the saya - the blade profile In my humble opinion, the Omega Series is a superior tool However, again only my opinion . . . - the vinyl saya which comes with those knives are simply horrible. I am embarrassed every time I take them out of the knife roll in the kitchen and try to hide the cheap vinyl as quickly as possible. Maybe it's how they keep the price-point down. - I personally prefer the blade profile of the shogun series 9" slicer over the omega series 12" slicer. The nose on the Omega carving knife is counter-intuitive

Dalstrong knives are top quality. The carving set is my 6th Dalstrong purchase. They are all excellent. The blades are razor sharp out of the box and the feel of the knife is excellent. The knives have a good "heft" to them and give the feel of quality. The Shogun series of knives are really beautiful. All in all the Dalstrong knives are more than worth every penny, they are even better than my Henckle or Wustof knives.

First, I acknowledge the price point and was not expecting the very high quality level of something like Shun. That being said, I was sadly disappointed when I received the knife and fork. The product photos of the knife were very misleading/deceptive. The blade design looked beautiful in the phots. What I received was quite disappointing. The design on the blade was much more of a frosted appearance, not the beautiful design as seen in the pics. This contrasts significantly with Shun for example, whose blade pictures match the product you receive of their beautiful blades. I've included a picture of my blade, you can barely see any design in the knife. I understand this is cosmetic, it was the principle of deceptive marketing photos that I found disappointing. On to the carving fork--it was crooked-uneven! To its credit, the metal was sturdy so I couldn't bend it straight. Again, the marketing photos were very misleading and deceptive. The fork ends are not even; it was manufactured poorly in terms of being straight (photo also included with this review). This is cosmetic, yes, but again, deceptive marketing. DALSTRONG states they have "award-winning craftsmanship". I must have received a reject produced as they were tooling their manufacturing. DALSTRONG states they have "awe-inspiring design". The pictures of the blade design are indeed awe-inspiring, but the actual product is far from the image they present. The only positive--the blade is sharp. The inaccurate and hyped marketing statements most definitely did not match the product as delivered. The significant gap between marketing and reality have given me pause as to whether I will purchase any more of their products.
