In my many years of salmon fishing, I've used numerous reels. I've always found the Daiwa's to hold up better than other brands. With the introduction of the Lexa line a few years ago, we finally got that Daiwa reliability in a low-pro, with the option of a left hand handle (preferred by many right handers like me who want the strong arm to fight the fish) and a line counter. And now with the 400 series, we have two sizes to choose from,. Not only are these reels reliable, but they have a *really* nice drag. Unlike some brands, it doesn't have stiction. You loosen it, it goes looser, you tighten it, it goes tighter, what a concept. It's important when fighting a big salmon to have instant and accurate response to changes in the drag. Too many reels, the fish will start pulling and you'll loosen and nothing happens, so you loosen more and then it takes off and it's too loose so now you're cranking it back the other way. Not with the Daiwas, they do what they're supposed to do. These are just really nice reels. A little pricier than the competition, but worth every penny. Buy it once and get a good product and be done with it. I now have them on all four of my primary salmon rods - the 300 series reels on my 9 foot rods and the 400 series on my 10' 6" rods. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Daiwa makes some nice compact line counters that are powerful and smooth! This is my 4th Lexa LC. I own two 100’s, one 300 and now one 400.

Great real with a strong drag system. But, it is heavy, very heavy compared to others in the same price range.

Very nice reel. Probably the most popular with "real" salmon fishers in the Northwest for good reason. Guides say it holds up very well under the heavy use conditions they encounter.
