I’ve spent a lot of time using traditional spirit boxes, especially the classic SB-7, so I went into the Sam and Colby XPLR Spirit Box a little skeptical. After using it, though, I can honestly say it delivers the same core feel and functionality that SB-7 users will immediately recognize… while quietly packing in several extra features that make it far more versatile in the field. Right out of the box, the scanning behavior and overall operation feel very familiar. If you’ve ever used an SB-7, you’ll feel at home within minutes. The controls are straightforward, the sweep works smoothly, and the device behaves exactly how you’d expect during sessions. One noticeable improvement is the built-in speaker. It’s louder and clearer than my SB-7, which makes it much easier to use without external amplification when you’re working in larger or noisier environments. Another thing I noticed is that the static feels slightly more controlled. I can’t say for certain whether there’s an actual noise gate built in, but it definitely seems like there’s some subtle filtering happening because the harshness of constant static is reduced compared to my SB-7. The result is a listening experience that feels cleaner and less fatiguing during longer sessions. Where this unit really starts to separate itself is in the extra features. The built-in flashlight is incredibly practical. Whether you’re navigating dark locations or just need quick illumination without carrying extra gear, it’s one of those simple additions that ends up being more useful than expected. The thermometer is another nice touch, offering readings in either Fahrenheit or Celsius, which is convenient depending on your preference or the context of your investigation. Then there’s the integrated REM POD function. It’s a great inclusion that adds another layer of interaction without needing a separate device. When you first power it on, it can be a little noisy while it initializes, but once it settles in, it works just fine and becomes a really solid feature to have built directly into the unit. Overall build quality feels good, the interface is easy to understand, and the extra tools make this more than just another spirit box. It’s basically a familiar SB-7 style experience with thoughtful upgrades that make it more versatile and convenient to use in real-world situations. And honestly, the price is what pushes this into “must-have” territory. At around $40, or even less if you catch it on sale, it’s an absolute steal for everything it offers. Between the improved speaker, the familiar operation, decent battery life (I use rechargeable AAx3), and the added flashlight, thermometer, and REM POD, you’re getting a lot of functionality in one compact package. If you already like the SB-7 but want something with extra tools and a slightly more refined feel (but basically the same kind of plastic casing; I'm not gonna lie here), the Sam and Colby XPLR Spirit Box is an easy recommendation. For the price, it’s a fantastic value and a surprisingly capable all-in-one investigation device. NOTE: I rated it 5 stars based on functionality and overall value at this price-point; it's a no-brainer.

Firstly, I am so glad that there is finally a lower priced, entry level spirit box. The pros : Very affordable. Great multi function tool for your paranormal toolbox. It's Sam and Colby XPLR branded so being a fan this was a plus for me. It works as described and has loads of functions for such a small package. Cons : The speaker isn't the loudest however it is clear and legible. To be expected for the price. The REM function does work but can be a little wonky when used around allot of equipment especially wifi and cell phones. Other than that it is an awesome piece of gear made accessible for the lower budget ghost hunters. Highly recommend I use mine regularly.

The XPLR, arrived early, that makes me happy. I have not yet used it for a session. First impressions, its good for its price point. I like that I can adjust the sweep rate, AM /FM seems to work ok. I live in rural Kansas so radio stations are few. I'm going to try the AM tonight, and see if I can't pick up skip stations. What is skip, ask your grandfather. The build quality is OK, feels a little lite. The volume could be better as the speakers are in the back. But if you hold it with a cupped hand that helps. You could built a passive speaker, or just put it in a cup.. to make it louder. When I get more experience with this device, I will update. FYI don't just rely on any device; you are the main connection to spirit.

This works as intended and it is a great value for the money. Others ghost box are over 100 dollars and they are basically the same thing, a modified AM and FM radio.

Not because I'm a tour guide with 325+ tours under my belt do I claim to be an expert. Albeit the price of this is far less than any other Spirit Boxes-so is the quality (far less) I put batteries in it, turned it on and I heard a radio station LOW and clear. Volume has a low ceiling, item has a cheap feel and surely doesn't come close to living up to the description. Basically it sucks to be honest!

I have the very common SB7 and an S-Box. Each has shortcomings. The Sam and Colby XPLR has been better than both. More functions than the SB7 and performs better. It's much easier to use than the S-Box. This is my go to spirit box when one is needed.

The device is a good value for the features it offers, especially for someone looking for an entry-level spirit box. The price is fair, but the listing would benefit from clearer explanations of what the product actually includes. This unit does not function as an REM device, so buyers should be aware of that before purchasing. What the device does provide is still useful for basic paranormal investigating. It includes a spirit box function for scanning radio frequencies, a built-in temperature sensor that displays environmental changes, and a small integrated flashlight for low-light situations. These features work as expected with exception to the temperature sensor. I did some testing and unfortunately the device will track the screen's temperature instead of the room temperature. However, if there are temperature changes, this will be reflected with the feature. The labeling on the packaging was a bit confusing, as an additional sticker was placed over the original text. It doesn’t affect the functionality, but it’s worth mentioning.

I’ve only used it a few times, but it does exactly what it’s supposed to do scans a.m. and FM takes the batteries has a decent size speaker. Kind of freaks me out a little bit. I don’t want to use it in my house, but I’m excited to take it out. In other places I like the size because it’s AMF and the batteries last really long. I’ve dropped it several times no issues. It works really good. It’s a little bit confusing to figure out. You definitely don’t want to just throw away the instructions but overall good product.
